Love your idea to collate the best Canadian books of the 21st century. I can't immediately think of a title! For shame. Have I even read a recent Canadian book? Will have to think more. Do you want books with Australian magpies? I'm sure there are some/many, but they're not exactly the same as Northern Hemisphere magpies. They're one of my favourite birds though, I see and hear them every day. They have a beautiful melodic song. Is Plan Jane a Pride and Prejudice retelling in other ways besides the house going to her cousin?

@@LouiseReader I hope you will vote on your favourite 21st century Canadian book, even if you only have one or two instead of ten. Yes, Australian magpies are included in my collection. Ruby Moonlight by Ali Cobby Eckermann has an Australian magpie on the cover. Plain Jane gives a nod to Dickensian or Victorian literature but it’s not a retelling. It’s also a feminist mashup of fairytale elements. It’s great!

Hi Lindy, so many additions to my TBR from your video. Blackward and big mall stood out to me. I’m new to graphic literature, but as you know, I’m really getting into middle grade and young adult books. I spent my whole 30s in the mall with my kids. That was the only place I could afford to take my four children and for a few dollars we could have a good time. We browsed the bookstores, ate fast food and. Always had a few dollars for the arcade. Then I moved to Minnesota, across the mall of America, which was then the largest in the world. I heard that Ala Moana was one of the first malls, was that the one the Jewish architect worked on. Headshot also sounds interesting. yay Canadian literature! I think I know which one I will vote for even though I’m a newbie. Aloha friend.

@@MarilynMayaMendoza Malls are interesting spaces to think about. The first indoor, climate controlled shopping center designed by Gruen was Southdale Center in Edina Minnesota. Did you go there when you lived in Minneapolis? He wanted it to mimic the street atmosphere of his Vienna home, a public place where everyone could meet. It opened in 1956. Ala Moana opened in 1959. I’m happy to keep adding to your TBR. Don’t let the choices overwhelm you!

I have The Prince of West End Avenue by Alan Isler on my shelf which I ordered used to continue my Hamlet reading, but I haven't read it yet.
