A 2 week catsitting Brooklyn adventure! That sounds so fun! I can't wait to hear of your adventures. "Only mildly interesting" is how I would describe The Other Valley. I was so intrigued by the premise but I kept waiting for more. Oh, you got the story advent calendar again; yay! I looked it up this year but the shipping to the US was steep.
@@readandre-read Too bad about shipping costs; postage is expensive in Canada. But you have figured out an alternative method of reading a short story a day. 😉 With The Other Valley, I failed to sufficiently suspend my disbelief at the premise, so it remained an intellectual exercise for a long time before my emotions became engaged as well.
I really want to read The Other Valley so I was happy to hear your thoughts. Where the Falcon Flies is also on my TBR. I didn’t know of the Adventure book awards. I can’t wait to hear more about your NY adventures and I’m looking forward to our buddy read of Code Noir. 😊💙
@@BookwormAdventureGirl I think you will really enjoy Where the Falcon Flies. I’m not as confident about The Other Valley but if what I said about it didn’t discourage you then that bodes well. Meanwhile, we have our adventure with Canisia Lubrin’s writing!
@@scallydandlingaboutthebooks My thoughts drift back to Death and the Penguin often enough to call it a haunting story. The ending is perfect-10 out of 10 for the landing after light and dark parallel bars.
If you're in Vancouver the 2024 Short Story Advent Calendar can be picked up at the Upstart and Crow bookstore on Granville Island for a discount price of $56.
Love that you are going cross country to catsit! People with the right kind of priorities, travel and cats! Hopefully you are able to see some lovely sights, especially with holiday time. Yikes, I wouldn't have even considered instagramability as a factor, that's sad it is so prominent, though I do wonder their polling process too. The Forbidden Book sounds intriguing, don't believe I've heard of it before.
@@ReadBecca I was just thinking of you! I’m listening to the latest Allusionist podcast and it’s about cats learning to communicate with the assistance of talking buttons. The survey of 1000 adults aged 18-33 was undertaken by Schofield, a UK-based holiday home insurance provider. That’s a smallish sample and I expect the respondents were all using AirBnB-type accommodations. Perhaps you heard of Sacha Lamb’s 2022 novel, When the Angels Left the Old Country? It made a big queer splash. The Forbidden Book has only recently been released.
@@lindysmagpiereads I will have to check out Allusionist. If you've somehow not seen it, there is a channel BiliSpeaks that is one of those button talking cats, absolutely delightful. I've considered trying it, but I am sure Roux would just harass me for food more than he does already 🤣 That polling method does seem a small sample and perhaps more likely to include the instragram forward type if they exclusively had something like air bnb, or maybe I am an old fuddy duddy! You are right, I had When the Angels on my TBR from the Mythopoeic Award! Still need to get to that one as well, so now two incredible sounding books from the same author I haven't tried yet. Gotta clear the decks quick for all the exploration in 2025!
I can't wait to hear what you end up exploring in Brooklyn. I do hope we get shots of Tattered Blue Library!

@lindysmagpiereads You're right; I basically have an advent September!
I’m looking forward to hearing about your adventures in Brooklyn. 😎

I loved Death and the Penguin. Your Brooklyn trip sounds fun.

A trip to Brooklyn in December! Fun! Where the Falcon Flies sounds interesting, but also not something I would ever want to do.

Ugh that’s sad to me about how instagram-able a place is being the main factor 🤢
