Treat ghouls like they are milita. They are about that strong. As undead you want fiends, they have big health bars. Shockingly high for a teir 1 ground range. They can tank for themselves. Your front line should be skelitons for dps or later the abs.

You really should rush forwards early tho. The game normally gives hou wnoigh units to at least scout out to the base. If you attack early it cuts down on the attack waves, as they bolster their defenses as well

Meat wagons regen because of unholy aura. It heals mech units

Fun fact on this map. If you assign a worker to repair the bridge, it will be fixed after 3 minutes

I always found this mission to be a sort of low point of the undead campaign for me. Story-wise there's nothing important going on, just part 2 of what started last mission; gameplay-wise the introduction of cryptfiends was always fun for me but the portal-hopping layout of this map confused me when I was young. Sure I always made it through using a big ol' undead horde, but it was always a slog that frankly wasn't very fun, even in comparison to "wait out the timer" missions later. Have to say, though, story-wise I still prefer this mission (despite Sylvanas being too dumb to live and spilling the secret herself) to the retcon TBC's Ghostlands quests did of it - not really because it's much better, but rather that I dislike the shoehorned-in canonization of a completely alternate course of events from random tie-in comics that invented a treasonous elf who gave Arthas the keys. The original WC3 version emphasizes the unstoppable march of the Scourge (and the suicidal greed of goblins), which I still prefer to the "wait, where's that guy come from? Arthas got the keys himself, he didn't give him anything! He didn't even exist!" feel Ghostlands gave me; it's just that WC3's story is so ingrained for me that trying to retcon it instantly trips me up.

Tourist man on skeleton horse storms a gate with four flesh eating maniacs on bath salts and two other old men wearing goat skulls. Local law enforcement too befuddled to shoot at them, and the person in command tells them how to get through the next gate because she's overconfident? They really should have just... destroyed the keys, yes?

Sylvanas will be very deadly to face, so prioritize targeting her before others, but if she's in a wave with a Ballista, prioritize both Sylvanas & the Ballista

Sappers are helpful for destroying buildings, but their Kaboom also hurts allies (not sure if I mentioned that before)

Man there is a lot to talk about in this mission first off though Arthas: you know Goblin when this is Over i am likely going to want to kill you as well Goblin Airship Pilot: Yeah, Yeah Pal we get Death Threats all the time File it with the complaints department This mission gets a lot more justice in the book then it does in the game, when the Bridge is destroyed it turns out there is no way to cross and this pisses Arthas off to no end so he ends up spending a ton of ghouls to make a Bridge across himself rather then just either building one out of the wood around him or freezing the water, which is also funny because a glitch apparently lets a Acolyte be able to use repair on the bridge and bypassing the defenses This is also the first mission where you get to see what could have been a playable High Elf faction like you said, but it's actually pretty rounded Archers and Swordsmen make up the chaff Priests and Sorcerers provide casters the Ballista makes siege and the Dragonhawk riders make air Adding in the Ranger General as a Hero and the Workers as Peasants and it's actually playable in custom maps if you don't mind having a disadvantage of Heroes HOWEVER this is where Reforged AGAIN comes to the rescue, because of all the people they could have made a model for Thalorien Dawnseeker gets one! so as a result you can give Elves three heroes High Elf Champion: Melee Ranger General: Range High Elf Arch Mage: that weird 3rd class that is not support but also not really a main Melee or ranged. Going into Frozen Throne you can also add a few new Members to the Roster Blood Elf Lieutenant: a Variant of the 3rd Heavy hitting Barracks Spellbreakers: another Caster alternative Blood Magi: the forth Hero All the groundwork is there so even without mods you can put together a pretty good Elf army Final bit of OC trivia, this map takes place around what will be the Ghostlands and close to the Chapple Hattle would have been studding and later barricaded inside of as the Scourge pushed to Silvermoon Fall of Silvermoon is next, i know you're not a fan of it, but i recommend looking into the Reforged map it's rather nice

they aren't even elven high command being imprisoned unlike zuljin in the horde campaign equivalent.. even if there are more lives being saved that just means less margin for error on an escort mission and more distractions from more potential threats..

People have done a good job covering most other aspects, so I'll bring up something I haven't mentioned - the rather unique direction old Blizz took with the Scourge theme-wise. Sure, they could've gone with any ol' spooky-scary-skeleton theming and music, and indeed Necromancers and whatnot sport the aesthetic - but then there's the sheer awesome discordant, almost modern electronic-feeling music made of crazy chimes and energetic fast-paced rhythms. It's not a shambling wall of zombies or a classic horror - it's an energetic predatory force running on arcane energy and evil cultish magic, and it sounds that way. And the more diverse and unusual sides of the Scourge, like the Nerubian buildings or the meat wagon catapults, help drive the point home. It's an army of the dead that is "alive" with its evil purpose. I still remember how lowkey hyped I was to hear the Scourge-style music return in early WoW, and how I felt it was kind of a mistake that they leaned more into "typical" horror music with much of Scourge-themed stuff later on, to the point where "classic" Scourge music returning in the 5-man Icecrown instances sometimes felt like a return to form, however brief.

This is actually a balanced pairing. Both have exactly the same stats, and depends of the damage min-max rng and AI to decide the winner.

I've always been a fan of Sylvanas. I don't totally love what they did with her story in WoW, but she still rocks pretty hard.

"The Elves must not be taken lightly." Arthas destroys the Elves with less than half the Undead Roster. Even the Noldor didn't lose this badly. That said, I think there was one map in Warcraft 2's first campaign. I'm not sure it was IN Quel'Thalas, but nearby and involving the Elves. Oh no. I'm wrong. It was technically Act III Quel'Thalas of the Orc Campaign as a whole. A bunch of it involves an attack on the place, or bits of it. I was thinking of the Elven Runestone or whatnot, but there is more than that, and we get Death Knights at the end of it. I suppose that they were always doomed to get squashed by Death Knights (or a Death Knight). Arthas giving his Undead minions a pep talk at the end there is... weird. Show's he's a bit delusional.

one last thing to note: if there are no more trees near the Graveyard, have an Acolyte unsummon the Graveyard tto refund 50% of your gold & build another one near the trees

there are 3 possible paths for Sylvanas to attack your base: the bottom left (where you place the Necropolis), the bottom right (where you battle Sylvanas) or the top right (where you start attacking the Elven outposts) those 3 paths can only be opened by destroying the trees with your Ghouls or Meat Wagons

also, heal Necromancers with Death Coil whenever Sylvanas targets them & also, in this mission, you can cast Unholy Frenzy only on Arthas, since Arthas has much HP than Necromancers & Ghouls & gives Arthas a massive attack speed

don't underestimate the High Elves, they may not be powerful, but they are powerful in huge numbers

For the scourge 💀

The Quel'thalas missions in Reforged are some of the best but at the same time laziest reuse of assets in all of WC3R. As we know between Regin of Chaos and The Frozen Throne the Elves turn into the Blood Elves and part of that change is a full change up to the character models, well WC3R does that too, if you go looking in the map editor you can actually find both a High Elf and Blood Elf variant to most of the Elves, i say most because some Elves clearly don't have a RoC twin such as the Bloof Elf Engineers or Spellbreakers, however two of the Models you would HOPE that would be is the Archer and the Swordsmen, Warcraft 3 Reforged however decided that, THAT wasn't actually important enough to create a second unit for, so in the RoC missions you actually see that the High Elf Swordsmen and the Archer are both using their TFT models and it's not just like they are reusing the Blood Elf Lieutenant either it's a full on new model that only has Green eyes and Red Highlights. This is even funnier when you realize that for the archers they created an entire model for Jennalla Deemspring (a one off Easter egg NPC hidden in a forest that was just a Yellow Team Sylvanas Windrunner) and that this same team spent the time to create two separate models for the Dragonhawk one that is only High Elf and one that is Blood Elf depite the fact that of all the units you would think THAT would be the one they got lazy with since it only appears in a single mission in the actual Siege of Silvermoon as a counter to the Gargoyles Also fun fact: you can see this clash of Elves appear in Lost War of the Horde as i use a range of the stock Elves to cut down on people needing to download mods to support my custom maps

you've been to quel'thalas in the Orc Misson "the Dead of Silvermoon" when you can build your first Temple of the damned. according to the new "fan made version of WC2" the Horde entered Quel'thalas, but were never able to raze Silvermoon.
