Colossal Cave 3D | Quest 3 Demo Reel
While a work in progress, many new features are being added or considered for the upcoming Meta Quest 3.
A short demo reel showcasing some footage (2D recorded VR in a random backyard does not yield the greatest footage. However, within the headset … it’s wild!)
Mixed Reality:
~ Helps with those that experience nausea with VR headsets.
~ Fantastic for maintaining some awareness in the real world, taking notes, sip a beverage, etc.
~ 3 passthrough window sizes (S | M | L), plus full immersion, simply rotated through with the B button.
~ Fixed in place or head tracking window.
~ Anything in the game that is close to you will enter the real world with you. Birds will fly into the room. Dragons may nuzzle your lap. Daggers whip by your head. Narrow cobble crawls will hop from the screen creating a short, immersive blast of claustrophobia.
Easy or Hard:
~ Colossal Cave is game famous for being a vexing 11 out of 10 in difficulty, especially if the goal is the coveted 350 points. Roberta just approved an easy mode. While still being defined, the ultimate goal is to allow a relaxing saunter through the magic cave, with significantly less concern for a group of armed, angry dwarves or the lamp going dim. A wonderful way to ease oneself into the more daunting, classic version of the game.
Anyone who currently owns the Quest 2 version will receive a free upgrade (we hope). We can't promise this because we're not 100% certain how Meta's store functions, but our belief is that anyone who currently owns the game, and has a Quest 3, will get a free update.
Finally, it'll have better graphics, updated sounds, game save sharing between Quest 2 and 3, Easter Eggs and more!

Holly molly, not in a million years would I ever think back in the early 90s, when I was just turning 10 or so, that one day I would be able to see who Roberta Williams is, listen to her talking, etc. Her, Richard Garriot, Jordan Mechner, any many others.... at the time they were mythical, elusive figures, only seen in the flesh by those in their circle. Great stuff.

I love Police Quest, King Quest and everything they made out of Sierra OnLine. It's a shame that Sierra OnLine inc had collapsed but at least their relationship is still ongoing! Ken & Roberta are legend and also one of the perfect example of the wholesome couple of the Chad Nerd since gamemaker is considered as a "nerd"

Nothing is stopping you from making a pitch to Microsoft if you want to do Kings Quest IX. "Retro" is in, adventure games have a market and you can make one for a smaller budget. Fans would be delighted.

I did actually write to a couple of people at Microsoft to ask if they would be interested and couldn't get a response. I think if we were super-interested in doing it I'd head to their offices and pitch the idea hard, and probably be able to talk someone into it. But at this point, Roberta and I are missing our other lives as real-world adventures and thinking about heading back to sea. Game development is a full-time job. We tried mixing boating and game development on Colossal Cave with mixed results. I'm thinking we're retired for good this time...

The IBM PCjr (pronounced "PC junior") was a home computer produced and marketed by IBM from March 1984 to May 1985, intended as a lower-cost variant of the IBM PC with hardware capabilities better suited for video games, in order to compete more directly with other home computers such as the Apple II and Commodore 64. Despite widespread anticipation, the PCjr was ultimately unsuccessful in the market. It was only partially IBM PC compatible, limiting support for IBM's software library, its chiclet keyboard was widely criticized for its poor quality and limited expandability , and it was initially offered with a maximum of 128 KB of RAM, insufficient for many PC programs.

I really like the colossal cave logo and the art made for this game, would be cool to have that logo on a cup or something haha. Also I still love all the classic point and click adventure games with all the fixed camera angles, feels very artsy like you’re playing through a painting in motion or something. Hope that kinda game makes a comeback. Many games these days feel very similar and play the same.

as a both a point and click puzzle lover and action rpg lover, kings quest 8 was my favorite game as a kid, along with the other kings quest, so im dissapointed and upset when i grew up and got aware i had played a black sheep according to everyone else, but, hell, thats my whole damn life with my tastes in general, being born with the cord strangling around my neck like a noose was a bad sign after all. I dont think there will ever be a combination like that again, other than quest for glory.

My 1st Sierra game was on an old Tandy in the early 90s & it was Police Quest 2. I was 12 yrs old I think, & honestly believe it was that experience that sparked my interest in the personal computer. I remember how mind-blowing it was for me to be able to type in all the commands myself and watch as the gameplay reacted to my input. Games like these always got my imagination working full steam as I would think of all the different possible commands i could type (some just for humors sake) & then watch the reaction by the games character. I was always at the computer after that and taught myself everything i could back then about computer's and continue to do so today as technology continues to get more complex. I'm now 42 years old & my love/interest in computers & technology has stayed with me all my life. What an awesome impression your games had on my life and thank you so much for that!!

( Don't worry, Ken.I won't take her from you 😂) Congratulations on 40 years of absolute amazement.🎉🎉🎉

Still have vivid memory of my mom buying a new computer with CD-ROM. With it, she got me Kings Quest 5, think it was around my birthday. I was 10 or 11 years old It was such a leap! The voiced dialog, the talking portraits, the beautiful landscapes all just blew me 10 miles away. Thank you so much for the rich, interactive stories we could enjoy growing up with. Had kind of a rough childhood, parents split up, hard time making friends. Your games really got me engaged growing up. Motivated me to learn how to type, became a wiz at MS-DOS before I was 10. Now working in healthcare data engineering, sticking to my love of computers with your help making computers fun. Thank you Roberta and Ken and team.

PC gaming started as a passion of mine from a very young age and has continued strongly until now. The King's Quest and Space Quest games in the early 90s will forever hold a very special place within me and who would've thought after all this time, I would be seeing Roberta Williams in a UA-cam video. I think these fantasy games touched so many lives due to how interactive and unique they were and it's a shame this period in gaming often gets overlooked. Games like Wolfenstein/Doom receive their credit and while it's deserved, we can never forget the excellent work done by Ken and Roberta in those early days. The voice-acted dialog and motion capture in King's Quest VI was truly the pinnacle in my opinion.

Hi Roberta, I've played all of your Hi-res adventures when i was a little boy. These games were a window into another world for me. I followed all of the "quest" games through high school and college and i have never heard your thoughts on the evolution of the medium you created. For example did you ever play Monkey Island? What is your opinion of the direction adventure games took (for example, making it impossible to die or to be put in an unwinnable scenario)? Do you see this as making the games too easy or was it more a matter of having so little space to work with on those 5.25" floppies that you had to make the puzzles harder so players would hey their money's worth? One never heard your perspective on this and I've always been very curious. Thanks Roberta 💕

Loved this laid back little talk session! I remember first seeing my uncle show off KQ5 on his brand new computer in his basement, and it only took until I heard the narrator say "That old witch caught Graham TOAD-ally off guard." to fall in love. Luckily a friend let me play her copy of KQ6, and from there I managed to get my hands on the rest. Been one of my absolute favorite gaming series ever since, and I loved playing through them again for the 40th anniversary! Thanks for bringing some of my favorite games to life! (KQ5 and KQ6, probably unsurprisingly, but KQ3 is also up there for me - been using the name "Gwydion" online since the mid 90s because of it. Turning Manannan into a cat is so satisfying even all these years later!) Best of luck with any future projects! <3

I will always enjoy the King's Quest series. My favorite is KQ6. I never really got into KQ8. All others had more than a few awesome moments. Of the "older" King's Quest games, I really enjoyed 2, 3, and 4. KQ5 and KQ1 had their special moments. King's Quest 7 took a different approach and different animation style, but it was still a great game nonetheless. Thank you for many an excellent memory, Roberta and Ken!
