Man, i'm old. I might have to get a box of Franzia to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Thank you for making my childhood special, Aunt Berta! We all love you.

It is a genuine travesty that modern social media (You Tube in this case) does not understand the incredible impact Roberta and Ken have on so many of us children of the 70's/80's/90's. My very first encounter with Roberta's work was King's Quest II. To my 11 year old self, it was transformative. When I share the early King's Quest experience with friends and family, they are shocked at how immersive 16 colors and a simple story can be. I can't put into words how much you mean to myself and so many others. Thank you Roberta and Ken. You are genuine heroes to so many of us.

Yes! I am a “newer” fan of Roberta Williams, having been introduced to her enthralling King’s Quest games with VII The Princeless Bride as a 12 year old digging around in the books and games section of CostCo. I also played games IV, V, VI but never completed IV and never experienced the first three games in the series. I can’t believe how entranced I still am by Roberta Williams’ games. Kings Quest will stick with me for the rest of my life, and anyone who knows, knows what I’m talking about. Thank you Roberta Williams!

I'm a non-English speaker and I remember playing games with a dictionary in middle school. Even though my poor English made it difficult to play the game, it is a cherished memory. I'm going to start playing with Wizard and the Princess. Thank you.

Wow, that's hard mode! I learned my first English playing King's Quest 1 with a translated Dutch hintbook. _Move rock, talk to king._ Not knowing any different, it seemed to me this tome of knowledge was an intended part of the experience... with the many possible perils of walking around Daventry it was still plenty challenging even if you knew the commands. :D

My family didn't have a computer until about 1991. The first adventure game my dad brought home was King's Quest 5. I was about 10 or 11 and had never seen anything like it. I immediately fell deeply in love with all of it- the story, the characters, the puzzles, the humor, the graphics and music... just the whole experience. When I finally finished it after several months, I immediately begged my parents to buy the others in the series. I especially loved King's Quest 4 with its strong woman protagonist! This was something I rarely saw in computer games at the time so it made a huge impression. Playing the King's Quest series sparked my imagination in so many ways. King's Quest is such a gift. I still play these games every once in a while and have shown them to my daughter who loves them just as much. Roberta and Ken, thank you SO MUCH. You have created something truly special. Congratulations on this 40th anniversary!

I will always enjoy the King's Quest series. My favorite is KQ6. I never really got into KQ8. All others had more than a few awesome moments. Of the "older" King's Quest games, I really enjoyed 2, 3, and 4. KQ5 and KQ1 had their special moments. King's Quest 7 took a different approach and different animation style, but it was still a great game nonetheless. Thank you for many an excellent memory, Roberta and Ken!

Congratulations on the 40th anniversary of the creation of King's Quest. I was in my early 30s at the time and really enjoyed the adventure game genre. Back then, I played everyone of the KQs and SQs except KQ3. Fast forward to 2024 and I have a steam account and at 72 I'm finally making my way through KQ3. Thanks for the hours (and years) of puzzles and entertainment!

Still have vivid memory of my mom buying a new computer with CD-ROM. With it, she got me Kings Quest 5, think it was around my birthday. I was 10 or 11 years old
It was such a leap! The voiced dialog, the talking portraits, the beautiful landscapes all just blew me 10 miles away.
Thank you so much for the rich, interactive stories we could enjoy growing up with.
Had kind of a rough childhood, parents split up, hard time making friends. Your games really got me engaged growing up. Motivated me to learn how to type, became a wiz at MS-DOS before I was 10.
Now working in healthcare data engineering, sticking to my love of computers with your help making computers fun. Thank you Roberta and Ken and team.

PC gaming started as a passion of mine from a very young age and has continued strongly until now. The King's Quest and Space Quest games in the early 90s will forever hold a very special place within me and who would've thought after all this time, I would be seeing Roberta Williams in a UA-cam video. I think these fantasy games touched so many lives due to how interactive and unique they were and it's a shame this period in gaming often gets overlooked. Games like Wolfenstein/Doom receive their credit and while it's deserved, we can never forget the excellent work done by Ken and Roberta in those early days. The voice-acted dialog and motion capture in King's Quest VI was truly the pinnacle in my opinion.

King's Quest 5 was the first KQ I played! One of the reasons my parents purchased the game was because Roberta's picture was on the back, showing that women can be game designers and in a technology field. I've loved mystery/adventure games (The Colonel's Bequest is my favorite) and computers ever since. Congratulations on 40 years of King's Quest! Sierra adventure games, especially the King's Quest series, were a major part of my childhood. I played on a Tandy 1000 (which had great music even in the earlier games, i.e., Greensleeves in 3 voices), and it was just magic from the very first King's Quest on. Then I wanted to bestow that feeling of wonder on others so I learned to be a magician and how to code both of which allow me to take others away from reality to forget their problems and believe in the what if in life. People who meet me don’t see how those two careers are connected but KQ is how. KQ is the answer. Thank you so much for being so influential in my life.

I think it would be amazing to see Sierra games rebooted for a newer generation to experience.. I realize the rights belong to Microsoft as they bought out ActiVision who are the original license holders for Sierra content.. But realistically adventure games have gotten back into mainstream gaming again so now is the perfect time to see classic Sierra adventure games on the newer generations of gaming consoles and PC.. Aside from that.. Thank you for all the amazing adventures Ken, you and Sierra On Line have given me over the years since I was a kid.. To this day, Sierra remains a huge part of my life (I still play the games regularly on my PC) and a reminder that game companies in the 80s and 90s were so much cooler! ;)

Ken & Roberta, PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASSSEEEE make another KQ game. The reboots have been mid at best; we need the GOAT to return! Get Jane Jenson back in the writing room w/ Roberta and I PROMISE YOU the game will do well. It doesn't have to be a huge graphical endeavor, either. Focus on the writing and crafting a compelling and tense story w/ urgency. That's why KQVI was so incredible. The narration done by Bill Ratner was perfection, the darker side of the game juxtaposed against the more light-hearted parts...man. I even have tattoos of KQVI's language of the winged ones on my arm & leg! Please, PLEASE make another KQ game.

KQ5 was my favorite - I still have the box. I tried installing it from my parents' floppies in ~2003 or thereabouts and almost had it installed... except one floppy was missing. I wrote Sierra Online (I guess it was owned by activision by then?) and asked if I could get a replacement floppy, and to my shock they sent me the CD set of the full series (1-7). By far though 5 was my favorite... I spent hours just wandering around the game world. I don't think anything else really feels like a storybook brought to life in the same way. I always loved the mythological and fairy tale inspired games.

It's good to have you back, Roberta. KQ5's box really _is_ beautiful-I've still got it and KQ2's sitting around close at hand, as the two entries that drifted my way as a kid, and if I still love games that let me explore and games that challenge me to think and humor that doesn't mind being a little bit silly today, it's because they paved the way for me first, a long time ago. Thanks for that, and I'll pick up Colossal Cave, I promise. =p

The stories of King's Quest are what got me into writing, and to this day remain my favourite games of 80s and early 90s. I would play KQ4 when I was six years old, unable to really understand anything and not being able to accomplish much, but still enamored with the world. Perhaps it is time to revisit Daventry, Kolyma, Llewdor, Tamir, Serenia, the Green Isles, and Etheria!

My 1st Sierra game was on an old Tandy in the early 90s & it was Police Quest 2. I was 12 yrs old I think, & honestly believe it was that experience that sparked my interest in the personal computer. I remember how mind-blowing it was for me to be able to type in all the commands myself and watch as the gameplay reacted to my input. Games like these always got my imagination working full steam as I would think of all the different possible commands i could type (some just for humors sake) & then watch the reaction by the games character. I was always at the computer after that and taught myself everything i could back then about computer's and continue to do so today as technology continues to get more complex. I'm now 42 years old & my love/interest in computers & technology has stayed with me all my life. What an awesome impression your games had on my life and thank you so much for that!!

King's Quest V was my first KQ game and I remember playing the CD-ROM version with my dad and my little brother and sister. Dad taught us how to make maps of all the screens (especially the desert and the ocean around Mordack's castle) and it's one of my favorite gaming memories. We still quote it to this day and it always makes me smile. Cedric the Owl was my favorite character and I even made a tiny perler bead sprite art of him that I hung up on my kitchen cabinet. I even took a computer programming class in high school because of you and I remember trying (and failing) to recreate Mystery House in Q-BASIC language of all things! I still make tiny games today and I pass that love onto others as well. I also have a tiny nephew and I can't wait to introduce him to King Graham (and Colossal Cave as well)! Thank you for all the priceless memories.

Thanks Colossal Cave and Roberta. Even after all these years, I LOVE seeing Ken or Roberta Williams talking about their product. It kinda cracks me up that they just jumped in and designed an entire standard. They always feel like they'd have been the eccentric computer neighbors. Roberta, I'm TOTALLY sorry that I was a part of the old pirate rings that used to mail boxes of copied disks and manuals back in the day... I DID end up buying the King's Quest (and other Sierra properties) collections when I was old enough to work and make my own money. Anyhow, love you guys, you're always a seminal part of the pc gaming world I experienced as a kid and even reminiscing about now.

Holly molly, not in a million years would I ever think back in the early 90s, when I was just turning 10 or so, that one day I would be able to see who Roberta Williams is, listen to her talking, etc. Her, Richard Garriot, Jordan Mechner, any many others.... at the time they were mythical, elusive figures, only seen in the flesh by those in their circle. Great stuff.

Loved this laid back little talk session! I remember first seeing my uncle show off KQ5 on his brand new computer in his basement, and it only took until I heard the narrator say "That old witch caught Graham TOAD-ally off guard." to fall in love. Luckily a friend let me play her copy of KQ6, and from there I managed to get my hands on the rest. Been one of my absolute favorite gaming series ever since, and I loved playing through them again for the 40th anniversary!
Thanks for bringing some of my favorite games to life! (KQ5 and KQ6, probably unsurprisingly, but KQ3 is also up there for me - been using the name "Gwydion" online since the mid 90s because of it. Turning Manannan into a cat is so satisfying even all these years later!) Best of luck with any future projects!
