Extensive usage of memes is features in the video. Let me know what you think about the format. Its loosely inspired by TTW "experience" videos but with unique twist. My editing still isnt as good as i would like it to be so these longer videos get really time consuming and messy for me to make. I would like to make more but it depends if you would like to see more of this kind of content. Musi...

Caesar 3 - Favor Mechanics Explained
Just discovered the Augustus mod last week. Coming back from a 15 year break (used to play this religiously in my teen years in the early 00's.) your videos have added to the magic of the game! Thank you for your channel and all of your insight, it's gonna help me build a really cool city once I don't feel so overwhelmed by all the new mechanics.
Just started up Augustus recently and holy cow! What an improvement! Thanks for this video, I've gone onto older forums and I've been trying the 9x9, "4 G block" cities and other layouts. Even on very easy it just hasnt been stacking up to what I wanted it to be. Think I might have to try this layout next, awesome efficiency here. Thanks again! Edit: I tried this the other day and was able to maintain a very happy city with 10K+ people, which I've never been able to do before. Reaching new heights! Thank you! Also, I can't spell apparently.
Thank you for the video! Very helpful! i have one question. How are 2 fountains enough for the 22x6 block? I tried placing them in the same spots you did but water coverage doesn't reach one row of tiles on each side and 2 in the middle. Am i missing something? Thanks!
Hey, on central and northern climates its 3 fountains per 22x6 block. On desert its 6. Fountains dont matter though, its 4 workers which is not even close to if you had to build other services so obsessing about fountains or their range is pointless.
@ Many Thanks!
I cannot see the Reconquered campaign. Tried three times. Now six times. And I Extracted the files directly into the required folder.
Usually its the missing folders, as the text hint says in the video and on heaven several times, i recommend a clean install of the game since there are new folders. I cant help you much without seeing what your folder looks like, its easier if you join the discord here discord.gg/HGT8Mk4Xvv
Finally catching up to this; started Villa of Terror and immediately had the same problem I usually do- I feel like I follow along with you clearing the initial area but then I get way more aggro/ different enemy concentration than you do. I have 2-3 harpies on me before I cleared half of the first group of walkers in the middle. I know there are elements of RNG in this game but I'm really curious to know how much it affects things like that and how much is down to me making more noise somehow, even though I try to do the same clearing pattern. Thanks very much for continuing the series and giving us a Blueprint though.
Hey, i usually use 3 rangers at they start to one shot the shamblers to clear groups quickly. More so with proper target micro, you attack like 3x the speed which will generate more noise but also clear very fast. Sometimes speed is better than taking your time since with more time the noise seems to accumulate more. If i burst down enemies and then spread out i very rarely get over-aggro but it can happen. Lot of the times its also about pulling back to let the noise go down in an area, couple of steps is usually fine, but staying in one area is usually bad idea on lot of the meaner maps. Enemies will get drawn quickly. Otherwise on Villa or Terror specifically, you can also put houses on the opposite side of the track from your command center, there is fertile land there but it shoudlnt matter, there is plenty on this map. And also there is the extra time at the end, so it shouldnt be a problem. Also i did this strategy before and here didnt have any restarts, i think you must be pushing too far in or something like that, it should be pretty reliable. More than on say, lowlands where its super hard to predict whats going to happen.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel I also use the 3 Ranger squad to one-shot at the beginning; I think I must have just "over-heated" by not periodically pulling them back or spreading out far enough. Once I started to spread out and let the heat map cool down more at the beginning the rest was a cake-walk.
@@LieutenantSteel Ok good to know, yeah that is likely the culprit the noise/heat can cause huge problems early on with overagro if you dont peridicaly let it cool off. I usually just step back couple tiles and its enough, it could be hard to notice even when its happening in the video. Since you are done with this i hink i can try to get the next video going, i have some footage already but need to finish another map. Maybe i can make it today.
I found import and export is best kept together as when there are traders on the map when it turns from December to January, they will ping pong back to your import area to sell you the new years quota. On maps where the entry and exit flags are far apart it is crucial to keep imports and exports together.
Yeah i think i covered this in the quotas video and mentioned it elsewhere as well. There is a set behavior where they sell you imports first and then buy exports but it can still cause backtracking or caravan pingpong when the warehouses are some distance apart. I recommend putting in all together but you can specialize areas of the map, if you want to for example have the same cities that buy only certain goods use a certain area while other traders will avoid it if the goods they trade are not accepted, with docks the carter time is even more vital and there anything than 2 tiles distance from dock to warehouse is really bad for quota. With docks you can control where certain ships go to though. This video is quite old, made even before cart depots.
Finally cracked Lowlands and made it to the end of video! I realised after a while that I was reloading a doomed run for a couple of days- even taking it back several steps to day 4 wasn't enough. Eventually a fresh game changed enough to pull it off. This is my first time trying to get the 'For Quintus - 4' achievement (70,000 Campaign score) so I'm tackling the hero missions on 800% also- I'm not sure how many missions I could afford to drop the difficulty or score on overall, to still let me get it. I hear you about it being a grind; I find it very frustrating when it could/ should be one of the more fun moments that break up the regular campaign play but they just feel very flat, let alone on 800% where the added grind gets boring fast. I don't think anyone would hold it against you for taking it at a lower difficulty, but sometimes we're all too proud to do that :) I appreciate the general footage from the 800% hero missions so I at least know what I'm getting in to.
Hey congrats for beating the narrow pass and the lowlands. These are some really really hard maps. If you are going For Quitus IV achievement then you also want to be carefull with defeats, as each time you get defeated on a map it reduces your victory points from that map by -10% i think. From what i understand you are using backups and saves though, which i get why some of the maps can take a long time and losing it all to 1 zed is awfull. I believe there is a room for error, when i got this i had like 120k pts i think when i did everything on 800% and had couple of defeats reducing my points. I already have the recording for the next video but it will be a longer one ill cover more missions in a single video with that. I hope i can get it done before today evening.
Hey, please let me know when you are done with the maps i showed here so i can start the next video, thanks.
The Narrow Pass great I just reached this mission at my 800 playthrough. Thank yoг mate!
Great to see this series back. I'm sorry it didn't get as much love as it should- but I'm glad you enjoyed making it enough to make this one (and hopefully a few more.) Really appreciate you incorporating milestones too.
Thank you, it was your idea with the milestone, i hope this way its better to follow along. Its more work for me but as long as its usefull thats fine. I would like to do some more soon propably next video tomorrow since you are following it and i dont want you to have to go and find someone else with simillar format since it might be hard.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel Honestly, even with this guide I'm struggling on this level. I don't know what it is, but the zombies seem to act more aggressively with me; if I play more passively, then I can't clear the space for the shocking towers, if I do try to clear it, I get mobbed by runners, even following similar tactics- spreading out the rangers and advancing slowly (I think you mentioned they generate 'heat' when attacking, so I try to let it 'cool down' between small steps forward. In my last effort I got two shocking towers down, one on each side of the South but got rushed from literally every side at the same time and was overrun in the North. I'm stubborn so I'll keep at it, but don't worry if the next videos take a bit longer
@@LieutenantSteel no worries if you had restarts. Its one of the more difficult maps on 800%. Yes its the "heat" or noise from units. What you can see me do, is that once i have my flexible defense up and more than couple of runners and couple of shamblers are attacking them i just pull back for a second couple tiles back. This lets the noise go down, if you dont react to these increases in tention the rangers will stay and shoot more and more often until you agro a full runner group that you cant beat. On this map and the next, its like hunters clearing. Lay low and try to not push very far. You can see it in the video i think that i didnt push very far until i had my shocking towers setup. For the north i recommend the walls as i used them to fallback to when too many runners show up. You retreat past the walls to break the agro from the shamblers and just deal with the runners. Then snap the rangers back to place. You should see me do these things in the video i know its sped up but i cant do a normal speed or it would be way too long video. You can maybe play the gameplay part on lower playback speed if you want through youtube settings. The aggressiveness was the same but if you take steps back each time you "sense" they are about to mob you, you can deal with it. The sense you develop as you play, to know how much pushing you can get away with. Unfortunately there isnt any sort of in game indicator of noise. Next video is live now as well. If it gets too frustrating for you, no worries about taking the 500% pick in the campaign selection menu and try to get it done that way, couple of missions like Lowlands and Narrow pass are just monster mission on 800% and are marked as "easy" by the game even though its not correct.
On the previous video (C3 Reconquered Campaign update) you mentioned that you'll have to put the channel on hold because of your new job, will you complete this series before that takes effect?
Hey, i made this one just because i had some spare time. If there are some people interested in this i might try to make more before i have to shut things down but i cant tell you for sure, there is still around 50% of the campaign left.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel This series was the reason why I started following you, and I'd appreciate it if you finished it, but it's clear as day that it gets a lot less views than Ceasar 3, so I'd fully understand if you wouldn't want to waste your time with TAB.
It's a shame this series didn't get the same attention as other games; I found the advice in these so much more useful than the generic videos of 800% with minimal commentary and no discussion of tech level (like Kensei)
@@LieutenantSteel thank you, yes i know that lot of pros will often skim through and not really delve into decision making and instead just play their way without giving you the reasoning. Also some tools are just better in hands of these people than relatively new ones, i like more flexible playstyle so for me for example the balista is a dead weight until later in the campaign while they use it to cheese the enemies a lot.
Perfect evolution of the series- the notes about what to focus on are a great addition.
Thanks for following the series, i think i might have done even better in some regards. I will try to see if i still have the save and make a new video for this soon, even if it has almost no views i did enjoy making it and if it helps at least someone then mission acomptished.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel You're very welcome and I hope you continue, so long as you enjoy it. I came across you while looking for 800% guides and yours was easily the most comprehensive- I've been playing along to the video, watching to a point, playing to the same point, comparing myself to your build to see if I'm in a good position or not; not placing buildings in exactly the same places but just trying to hit the same economy & research milestones. The maps you show at the beginning were also extremely helpful but there are a lot of insights to be appreciated. I hadn't played TAB for a few years and wanted to finally go back and try to 100% the achievements- your videos have been invaluable, since I lost a lot of the game knowledge (although I think I only ever completed the base 100% setting previously, so was never this good before!)
Really good information regarding the troops giving back their food costs on death.
Sorry to see you go buddy. C3 should hire you to make their maps and new campaigns. I will always remember you. It’s my childhood game and I am 40 now still playing and you made a huge impact on my game and made so much interesting. I wish you good luck and very sad to see you leave
Love the evolution of the map explanations; the tech tree progress and thoughts about how to approach the mission with your current tech build. Very much appreciated.

I will miss you. have a great life bro.
Thanks, we will see if it will be possible to keep the channel as hobby at least.
your old job sounds ominous, but just please try to be safe
No worries, its not exactly safe so the feeling is right but i have been doing it for 10 years before so i think it will be ok. Thanks for the concern.
Hi Marek! I wanted to thank you for everything you've done so far with the game, the maps, the campaigns. You’ve put an insane amount of work, and it shows, it’s really a shame that these kinds of games aren’t really more popular so getting high viewership is virtually impossible. I wish you all the best and hope to see you around every now and then if they allow you to keep the channel. Take care!
Hey, thank you. Yes unfortunately caesar 3 is not very popular, even Zakh who started as c3 youtuber has to do a lot of promotional things or other games to keep his channel going. I understand that and i did try to branch out with games like They are Billions etc. but its just very hard nowdays to succeed. In any case thanks for the kind words.
You definitely have what it takes to make a top tier strategy game campaign. You did it all by yourself to a much higher level of quality than the original game's campaign, along with managing voices etc. It's understandably not something which would be easy to break into and I understand going back to your other job, but I would want you to know that you are good at what you do, so much so that I've thought before that if I were to ever get enough money to start a game studio and planned a strategy game, you would be somebody I'd consider contacting. Your work speaks for itself, and may open a door in the future. It's not the most lucrative game genre though, so I understand not relying on it and knowing when to put it aside for now.
Thank you, i'm honored you think so highly of the RC and my design. I did have help from my community with testing and capturing art assets etc., it would likely be impossible to make completely alone but i'm happy with how it turned out. I dont think it will be surpassed by anything made fro the game which was my goal. I wanted to find a job in the industry but got an offer too late since i'm already in the process of going to the old job i had. Would have been much better for me creatively if i could have been working on games but i cant turn back time. Anyways as i said, thanks that you think so highly of the RC.
Thank you so much for all you have done, Marek! The Reconquered Campaign is a wonderful creation and legacy to leave in the C3 world. Thank you, as well, for your tutorial videos. They have helped me immensely in becoming a better player. All the best for your future!
Hey, thank you for the comment. I'm very glad i managed to help you improve its always what makes me feel the best, knowing that it was at least all good for something.
Thanks a lot for all your work! It is very much appreciated.
Cheers, thank you for the kind words.
Thank you for the Reconquered Campaign. Haven’t played it yet but I’m looking forward to it! Good luck with your job!
Thanks, i hope you will enjoy the campaign.
Thanks for all the kind comments here, i will try and personally respond to all of them even if its a short thanks. I forgot to mention this in the video, if you have completed the new Reconquered Campaign leave a review on caesar3 heaven, all the old ones were left behind on the old file so its pretty blank at the moment. Its there if i get the time to ever do another update in the future and to let other people know what your experience was. Thanks.
Wooot hype, thanks Commissar /salute
Thank you for everything Marek. Hope everything works out. Good luck and godspeed.
Thank you Hoxton, i hope so as well. In the perfect world i would be able to keep this as a hobby but we will see.
good luck with your job and thank you on campaign
Cheers, thanks for the kind words.
Thank you for all your effort! I absolutely enjoyed the reconquered campaign (Both Versions). All the best for your Future!
Thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed them both. If you want you can leave a review on the new one, its essentially blank since i had to make it a new upload.
Love your videos so far- very informative, and it's nice to hear what didn't work for you as well, at the start. I realise you probably finished the campaign a long time ago now but if you did more TAB videos (I think I saw some 900%, 1600% and No Pause runs, if you decide to do any in future) would you be able to add milestones to aim for? Early game notes like 'Day 3-4 have working Stone mine', 'Day 7-9 Soldier Centre/ Wood workshop', 'Day 13-16 research shocking towers' or simpler things like 'have the map cleared by day 30 before the final wave on day 40' or to let people know when you build extra soldiers centres/ more shocking towers maybe. Sometimes I find it hard to retain information in the longer videos, and even if it was like a pause screen with the build-order-so-far, it would be really handy. Even just including a rough outline of when you're aiming to get certain things done, at the beginning when you map out the resources, would be be great. I'm trying to play along with the video but don't have the map knowledge of an expert yet :)
Hey, i'm glad you like the TAB videos the milestones would have been good to have but it would also make producing the videos much longer. Still if i was still doing it i would have propably done a rework from the start with a simillar system. I personally dont like the 900% or no pausing since even 800% can be very frustrating at times, its as tight as i can handle really sort of like startcraft on Brutal but the Nightmare mod is too much. The videos end on Oasis i think at which point i had almost no viewwers of it and it doesent make sense to cover. This channel is tiny, i wanted it to work out but it didnt. I will not be able to continue making videos or supporting the older ones for long with a new job around the corner i might get rid of the channel for good, its been only a hassle for my life for absolutely nothing back.
Really loving your guides and explanations for the choices. Struggling with this map due to getting a bit bored from time to time, pushing too far and then dying to a straggler zombie finding a gap... it's always as I feel the most safe that I lose it all. Closest attempt so far was when I was only 12 tents away from winning!
Commissar Marek, you honor Caesar 3 with your awesome videos! Many many thanks, to keep this good old game alive, a game plenty of nostalgia.
Brilliant guide; very useful advice. I just came back to an 800% campaign I started about a year ago- beat a hero mission and then died at my first swarm. Pretty sure I soft-locked myself with the tech I chose. I really appreciated the balance of mission specific advice and the deeper in game knowledge. Re-trying Hidden Valley, I lost 3 times- I thought I was being efficient by not bothering with the North East side of the map before the Horde but now I appreciate those Zombies (that caused me to lose) all joined in the attack. I thought the Horde had been sneaky and split without showing it but know I can understand why, so thank you.
No problem, i'm glad you found it usefull. There is always more to cover and i'm not the best of the best but its what i had to learn to beat 800% myself so i thought id share it for people who want to do it reliably. Some tech is just a trap on 800% i think, unless you are a god then you propably really dont want to pick it especially early. Early maps ramp up enemy numbers and hordes fast, for me i have to have a shocking tower for coast of bones or i'm boned. There are some more of these videos but at some point i think Oasis it was getting so few views that it isnt worth my time to make. Maybe when i get more i will finish the campaign but its a lot of effort to make these and again most of my viewers unfortunately do not care about TAB much.
Hi Marek! The editor does not seem to scan the messages; I can only import one message; any idea how that can be fixed? Thanks for all you work, it gave me so much enthusiasm I'm trying to make a little campaign! (less ambitious, and more beginner friendly since I'm not that good)
Hey, the messages xml needs to be in your c3/editor/messages folder so the game can find them. I think this is the problem but not sure, if it doesent solve it you can post a screenshot or send the xml in the discord so i can take a look at it. Otherwise no problem, glad you decided to make something. Its hard to get into these xml specific features since lot is also changing so i think even this video doesent cover everything.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel thanks for your quick reply! The messages are in the folder, but I can only import one in the editor, if I add another the intro vanished. Maybe I'm doing something wrong (id of the message?) I'll send it via discord tomorrow if I can thanks
I’m playing on steam, how did you get the resolution patch?
We all have it on steam or GOG but the game is usually played using Julius mod for vanilla experince with bug fixes and widescreen support or Augustus mod which is an overhaul. Julius -github.com/bvschaik/julius Augustus - github.com/Keriew/augustus/releases
Hi i dont have the Custom Imperium Folder.
Hey, its possible you have it in caesar3/editor/empires folder. Unstable creates new folder structure nowdays.

Hey, yes but with Augustus its the best city builder on the market even today. :)
I can not find any documentation explaining the shields on the trade icons. I know more shields meens more goods per year, but how much per shield and why are their two colors?
vanilla shields were 1 = 15 quota 2 = 25 quota 3 = 40 quota They were all bronze color. In Augusuts there are silver and gold shields, i dont remember what values they reflect but since we can see number even before opening the route and many custom empires can have very specific amounts of quota they are just cosmetic essentially and dont correspond.
This game got a huge update recently, changed a lot of things. You should do another video to see the new stuff!

What happens if you close all possible paths using forts?
If all paths are close then its like when invasions is placed behind a river, they will stand there and prevent immigration until you attack and route that army. You can do it with towers for example but it will delay your immigrants.
How did you get more than 6 forts in the same map?
In Augustus, if you build a grand temple to Mars, it allows for 10 max forts instead of 6.

Got a question for you mate: why does unemployment all of a sudden goes to negative values? About 15 years in the map (i.e Reconquered mission 7) it goes slightly to -15, then -50, then 6 months later to -100, by 2 years after year 15 (give or take) it's - 500 unemployment..... but all needs are met for population.... I just don't get it....
Hey, its due to aging. When people immigrate into the city, some of them are almost 50 which is age which workers stop working forever. As you play more people are not contributing to the worker pool. Kids under age of 20 also do not work. You can see this for yourself in population advisor and census graph on the left. To go around this you can use a setting to raise retirement age from 50 to 60 years, More drastic "cheat" setting is to use fixed 38% of worker pool always works which effectively disables aging but makes the city always only 38% workers. Some people like to keep health low so old people die but thats unreliable in Augustus since disease is much more of a factor.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel Great reply and many thanks. Sadly this always happens when I play any map past let's say 15 years. Already using the 50 to 60 function, but not the 38% cheat. Tried the health factor by deleting the doctors, but that didn't help. I'm a bit stuck, and I do love this game (played it 1st when I was like 19 in 2000 :). Any other tips or do I change the playstyle alltogether?
@@r3llik1981 Right, there is a way some people keep cities perpetually young by spamming venus festiavals and worshipp every year. This is very tedious. Another way is to keep your plebs at medium insula, you will need more patricians but medium insula with lower health services will eventually result in stable population factor. I dont reccoment this unless you really dont want to use the 38% cheat, which in my mind is lesser evil at this point. Finally my way, is just to win quickly and never let it get out of hand too much. There is always a way to purge old pops with cutting water if you absolutely have to. This video goes over some of this if you want a video form. ua-cam.com/video/xnLhOJZf3_A/v-deo.html
@@r3llik1981 Also i just remembered something else that some people are often confused by, patricians never work or contribute to the work pool in any way. So if you evolve a block from Grand Insula you lose a lot of workers if you were counting on those being workers before.
