I’m in the process of finishing the original campaign (currently at Caesarea P and Sarm. M) on Julius and I have to agree with much of your placements. I found Lugdunum, Carthago, Mediolanum, Miletus and even Tarraco to be more challenging and memorable than most of the later maps. I’m a pretty good player now so if you give me enough space, I just set up my export industries, pop blocks and military then slowly expand until I hit the goals, usually finishing with patrician block(s) to soak up unemployment more than raise prosperity. No real challenge, just time consuming if the pop is high and annoying if attacks are frequent. Feels like the designers didn’t know what to do to increase difficulty and assumed bigger pop and larger maps was the answer.
I would also add that as i mentioned in the video. The developers of the game only had very limited time and so it seems likely, that way less time than would be necessary was spent making the maps. To my knowledge most of this was all done by 1 person.
Hey, i mentioned it in the video description. Either my mic was too low or i made a mistake while editing. Sorry for the inconvenience usually i dont set it this high.
The joy of the final winning music ^^
