Born and raised on the Cold Harbor battlefield in Hanover County Virginia, I've been relic hunting for 50+ years. Join me for civil war metal detecting adventures in Cold Harbor and elsewhere, as we dig up the tangible evidence of our history - the good, the bad and the ugly. They Charged Over This Creek and through This Muck - Straight Into Enemy Fire Behind Breastworks!
The carnage in this quiet patch of woods is unimaginable. In 1864 Union troops charged down a hill, over a creek, through a swamp and up a hill into an impossible situation. Confederates were heavily entrenched and wreaked havoc on the boys in blue. New York and Pennsylvania troops got the worst of it, by far. It's well known that Civil War Soldiers often carried outdated equipment and wore outdated uniforms. Today I found a U.S. Infantry button manufactured in the 1820s-1830s. I also dug Civil War era buttons and dug a pocket-full of bullets.
