Metal Detecting at Patrick Henry's Birthplace - How many of These relics Belonged to His Family?!
The great statesman Patrick Henry has been called "The Voice of the Revolution." The Henry House at Studley, Virginia, his birthplace, is a protected site. But the front yard of that plantation house extended onto property which Genna has permission to hunt. Today she asked me to go there with her. We found colonial era artifacts that were almost certainly owned by his family! #civilwar #deus #dirtfishing #history #metaldetecting #relichunting #treasure #treasurehunt #virginia #treasurehunter #patrickhenry #americanrevolution

Dr Gaines, whose Mill gave its name to the battle of Gaines' Mill, was an ardent secessionist. He once threatened a Federal General that if he buried any of his soldiers on Gaines land, as soon as the army moved on, he'd dig them up and use them for hog feed. Well, they BELIEVED him. So no soldiers are buried here. However, we found the uniform buttons, bullets and even a utilitarian piece of 1...

    Got a question for you. I’ve been Metal attacked since 72. I can’t tell you how many machines I’ve used currently I’m using an ATT pro no complaints for hunting not worth a flip on the beach, but I don’t be hunt often mainly Civil War relics what do you know about, the equinox 800 or the DOS two the man is a little out of my league but as far as relics go with the 800 base sufficient also I know it does very well on the beach. What do you think?

      Lee, I am woefully ignorant of the E 800. I have a friend who loves it for depth, but hates it for finding Civil war iron. (Canister balls, grape shot) As for the Deus II, my friends are using it. Great machine. I'm not sure it's a HUGE improvement over the Deus I, but my friends swear by it, and say it is an improvement over the first machine. If I did not have a higher end machine, I'd certainly get a Deus II. But since I have the Deus I, and I haven't seen real evidence of a big difference, I'm happy to stay there. Again, if I was buying something fresh, I'd go with the Deus II.

      Gully, Shelby Foote liked to say that it shouldn't have been fought, but that compromise was impossible. He always believed that a physical fight was inevitable. He famously said, "The civil war, more than any other war, including the revolution . . . was necessary to determine what we were going to be as a country, and what we were NOT going to be." I like that.

    I think I have one box plate that has a name scratched in it? I bought it from someone 40 years ago. I need to dig it out, look it up, and research to see if I can identify him. I also found a bullet in the 70’s, partially flattened, with the guys name last name (Clyster). I never tried to look him up. It also has some Greek letters like a Fraternity would use. My coolest find was an ID ring I found in 2 pieces, both flattened out. It was a drummer boy from the Massachusetts volunteer militia I think he was 18 years old. It’s a miracle I found both pieces. Talking about a story. How and why was it cut in two and discarded? Did he get an injury on his hand so they had to cut it off? Nothing to mention his records. Thanks for sharing this amazing collection

Not long after 12 year old me went gaga over Dr. Gaines and bugged the NPS about any pictures of him, a descendant came in who owned the original portrait and graciously allowed the NPS to take professional photos of the portrait. He is everything I hate about 19th century and I'm pretty sure I'm everything he would hate about the modern world, I can't help but have an obsession.

    Do you think it's harder to find relics because the camps and battle fields were picked through already? Immediately after the war and time since? I saw your hidden relics videos and that hunter found everything that hadn't been claimed. I have never seen such a massive collection. More impressive than anything hidden behind the doors of museums. My husband's father's some pieces of "ammunition" that he found just walking battlefields in the 50's & 60's.

    • @thebattlefieldwalker2841
      @thebattlefieldwalker2841 Місяць тому

      Absolutely YES Michelle on everything you said. There were/are only a finite amount of relics in the ground from any given time period. And relic hunters have been hard at it (collecting) since immediately after the battle (souvenir hunters and scrap collectors) and especially since the 1950s. Yes, that collector must've spent countless hours in the woods and fields amassing that impressive collection. But yes - SO MUCH has already been found. It's still out there, but you have to work so much harder to luck up on it. Thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting!

      I know! I've taken 40 lashes for shooing that cat! But rest assured, she has a great life, and is a rescue! Thanks for the kind words, too!

      @@thebattlefieldwalker2841 Well, that’s good to know. So many animal lovers in the world don’t like to see them disrespected. Glad I wasn’t the only one! Keep up the excellent videos and maybe be holding that pretty kitty in one of your sign-offs! Be good, say your prayers, and hug your cat!! 😻
