Walker, Cold Harbor is a magical place and I have treasured every relic I’ve ever found there. I still have every one and will pass them to my son. You are very luck to have grown up there and met so many wonderful people, Mac, Gary,Pete, Mr Lyle, just a few of them I had the fortune to call friend. Thanks for the videos, at 65 I can’t hunt like I did but I hunt vicariously at Cold Harbor through your channel. Keep it up my friend and hope to meet you one day. Mine was a perfect puppy paw SNY buckle dug over behind the run down store across from the Garthright house. It was from one of the New York heavy artillery units that attacked during the Second Corps assault. Got that a half canteen used to dig with and a body hook bayonet all in one afternoon. Was hunting with Gary Williams, Mac Mason, and Pete George. It was 1982 and I was a kid in a candy store just to be with these three legendary people.

That's awesome contributing to Mrs. Williams that shows the kind of person you are. I know how you feel getting up I'm 59 and a little beat up. I got hit back in 99 broke me up pretty good but I still get out and metal detect just wish I had started earlier in life. I have done a few digging in va events. I love civil war but have only dug bullets and not many at that. Would love to find buttons and my bucket lister would be a confederate belt buckel. Maybe one day.I also enjoy researching my great great grandfather's civil war service he died at the mule shoe in Spotsylvania courthouse. He was in the 48th virginia infantry. Can't find a burial site no info and is not in any of the cemetery near bye

@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 yes. 100% just google "us navy nco buttons" and compare.
they were small denomination coins minted by a state or sometimes city to cover certain sales tax. my grandpa had a whole bunch from around the southwest when is dad was wildcatting (ie oil drilling) around that area. some were plastic, some copper-nickel, some aluminum. its a whole sub category of coin collecting. same with the paper stamp variety here in ohio.

    • @brianselt291

@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 I’d say within 20 ft or so…sometimes you can find exact gps coordinates listed in the metadata for a pin drop. It is only accurate if you have a good cell signal…because location is triangulated between towers. I’ll bet that Mud Duck can technically assist since they utilize GPS and drones in fire detection and prevention now. I’m really surprised that they have not integrated a GPS into a metal detector yet just for situations like this.

Dave, this was a union camp as well. As for the use, I really don't know. I think a paymaster's money box would require a much bigger key - a more stout box. Who knows? A commanders records? Muster or service records? Lists of KIA and MIA? I mean it could even be civilian. If it was locked though, it was either valuable or important!
