Hunted Out? NO! Digging Civil War Relics by the Handful!

- I honestly thought this permission was nearing the end of its productivity. But straight out of the truck I began finding what the soldiers left behind. For the first time in a long time . . . I had no DOWN time. It was just one discovery after the other. Today, I dug the second largest number of civil war bullets I've ever dug in one hunt. It wore me out, so enjoy! #civilwar #metaldetecting #digginghistory #gold #relicdigging #deus #history #civilwarrelics #metaldetector #virginiahistory #relichunting #civilwarrelics
I've dug probably 2000 bullets in the last 10 years and it never gets old. I enjoy watching you dig them as well. I got to witness two friends dig over 300 .44 caliber pin fire rounds in a camp in Rolla Mo. a few years ago. It is the largest pin fire cache found and I have 10 of them in my collection. Your videos are some of the best on UA-cam and I never miss a single one. Keep up the awesome work!
Jack, that's a high compliment, and I don't take it lightly. I appreciate the kind words. 300 pinfire rounds is unheard of! I wouldn't be surprised if that's not an absolute record number in one hole. My best was 249 3-ringers. (Actually 248 and one lonely round ball in one hole). I will say this, it's one thing to find 60 bullets in one hole. A thrill. It's quite another to (at age 64) dig 50 holes to find 60 bullets! Still very cool, but quite exhausting!
Great to see you back BW! You keep digging and we'll keep watching! Awesome day of saves! Take care Brother and God bless!
Appreciate that Shane! It's been crazy-good lately, and more of the same this Friday, only this time, with buttons . . .
Congratulations Battlefield Walker what a great day, I never get tired of watching you dig relics, I love digging bullets but I've never dug that many in a day, hats off to you you killed it today
Dude, I don't know what it was! Perfect atmospheric and soil conditions? Whatever it was, I couldn't take a step without a good signal - and over ground I've hunted a hundred times! So weird, and thank you for the kind words. More of the same coming this Friday!
ill be looking for you on Friday, brother ain't it crazy how you can go over the same spot an then one particular day you find stuff you've walked over for years, it's pretty crazy, I think maybe the ground is continuously changing an moving an pushing things around, lol but I'm no scientist, keep rocking Battlefield Walker
@@jeffreywashbourne8074 Thanks man, and I agree. It's crazy. Maybe you're not too far off. I'm continuing to have great hunts on this property this year, as you'll see in the next few videos. I can't explain it. I guess the ground would only have to shift slightly, to move a relic only a tiny bit, and make it more "discoverable." But what the heck do I know? I know I'm finding bullets and buttons again, all of a sudden . . .
Great video especially like the intro and the story of your dad… 60 bullets .. great day !
Thanks Cliff!
Definitely not tired of watching you dig the same thing! What an incredible day! Never stop digging there! Love seeing the bullets in wood your Dad found and hearing the lessons he taught you.
Thanks Swamp. I was lucky (blessed). He was a great guy.
Incredible! I would like to find just one. Maybe one day soon. Congrats!
Burrito, I can honestly say that I hope your wish comes true, and MORE. I'm just so lucky that I was born and raised in the middle of it. There were trenches in my front yard growing up!
As usual excellent video Walker
Appreciate that Wayne.
Good afternoon, Walker. There is nothing like a "Great " day relic hunting. That feeling driving back home tiered wore out, but Happy feeling history in my soul .😊 God bless
We're kindred spirits, Hogwarts . . .
THIS is so enjoyable!!!!!! Jay from Hudson Valley NY
Thanks Jay. Next Friday's is more of the same, plus some nice brass surprises.
Jay from Daytona beach fla says yep
One of those days you hate to walk away. Preach it. Congrats
Ha! YES Billy!
WOW!! Poppin those bullets out like an assembly line!!! Thank You for sharing the Adventure!!!
It was crazy, Steve!
Excellent intro. If you're on it stay with it. I would continue digging bullets looking for that bigger prize, but if I didn't find it, i was still saving history. Enjoyed the story in the wrap up.
Thanks Sage. I like telling the stories. And I would love to have a pic of that farm when soldiers filled it in 1862!
Wow! Just wow……..………Wow! That is crazy.
It WAS Craig. Doesn't happen like that for me very often anymore!
That was a fun hunt Walker, yes there will always be something to find as long as you feel good about it it's all that matters! The bullets that have powder on them or in the conicals usually indicates that the ammo got wet & were discarded, a ton of fun to dig that way as the number of men sitting around that campfire could be numerous & the possibilitys endless, congrats on a successful dig!
Agreed Benjamin. Thanks for the kind words!
Bless you bw have not been getting notifications for long time great to happen upon you again
Thanks Jay. It was a poor summer for relic recoveries. I was probably averaging a video a month. But I'm in a GOOD spot now, and I'll be releasing a video every Friday at 10:45 AM for the next month . . . hopefully longer.
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 can't wait brother ty
I also hear you about missed targets. I think sometimes ground conditions change and hide many deep targets that can be heard once the ground changes again later. I remember hunting a camp in Stafford that we beat to death over 4 or 5 years when a friend of mine heard a rare decent signal right out in the open that was five eagle cartridge box strap plates buried together over 2 feet deep.
Holy MOLY! I'm always hoping for just such a happy accident!
Awesome recoveries.
Appreciate the kind words, man!
Man! What an incredible day Walker! Congrats buddy!
Thank Joe. I didn't need anybody to rock me to sleep that night . . .
Absolutely incredible, great video
Thank Andrew. I'm a hopeless, rookie historian!
My word what a hunt!
It was crazy, Homeland!
I think the most I got out of one hole was around 80 Federal bullets in Stafford and once got over 40 Confederate bullets buried in a haversack about two feet deep in a trench line over in Chesterfield. One of the coolest finds was 10 three ringers still laying together as they were wrapped along with 12 percussion caps. Obviously where a soldier had dropped a 10 round pack of ammunition. Congrats on the good finds. I have many happy memories of Cold Harbor. Never dug anything fantastic there but always found lots of bullets frags and case shot balls.
I can tell you've really been here, because that's the expectation! I found 248 three ringers (and one round ball) in the bottom of a nail keg, still sitting upright in a hutt site. That's my top number, and I doubt I'll ever surpass it!
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 LOL 248 would be tough to beat for sure. The best I could do out of a single hut was just over 100 buck & Ball rounds. Did manage to get 4 or 5 that were still stuck together when dug. I did dig a cartridge box liner that had some .69 round ball cartridges in it. You could see the balls and powder staining. I set it on the outside of the hut I was digging and a curious cow stepped on it and smashed it to heck LOL.
@@historyhoarder634 Dang Cows!!!!
watching from hangtown California, that's a lot of bullets
It WAS Eddie. I found quite a few more, and some brass on the next trip. That will come out this Friday at 10:45 AM. Hope you'll check it out. Cool to think you're watching from the other coast! About as far away from me as you can get in the Continental U.S.!
Not just another video, they will never end these relics will still be found when we are all dead and gone your kids will still be finding these good luck its fascinating to us across the pond.
I am so honored that across the pond you actually WATCH this stuff! I mean to ya'll, 200 years old is yesterday!
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 l find it interesting not everyone as plenty time to watch what you record l like history and geography l find it fascinating to think you can find this in areas where the battles and campsites were. I like to watch a program called “Time team” it’s about digs all over the UK it’s what people find Roman is a big part of it it’s all on UA-cam.
What a killer day!
You would have dug twice as many. You hunt like the Tasmanian Devil.
That was great. If those ole boys had shot as many bullets as they dropped the war would have ended much sooner than it did. Nice hunt👍
Ha! They sure left a lot in THIS field, 2much!
Another fantastic video, those old boys sure wasted a lot of ammo, do you think they may have discarded it for being damp ?
Exactly what I'm thinking John. That many aren't accidental drops, I wouldn't think!
You have the best videos. That was a great day. That doesn't happen often here in Tennessee.
Doesn't happen often here either Jason! That's my second largest one-day total of my life.
@thebattlefieldwalker2841 I've dug a lot of bullets but my biggest haul out of one hole was at Fort P. 9 Spencer's. A guy walked within 5ft of me and dug a spur. Grrr
@@jasonpilkington-xl1ts Yeah that spur ruined an otherwise great day!
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 boy did it
wow great day
Thanks Randy! I appreciate that . . .
Awesome!
Thanks Anthony!
Bullet Fever!
I got it, Baby . . .
Moon phases have been theorized to have an effect on metal detecting. Maybe you just hit it at the right time on this hunt.
Wayne, seriously. Whatever it was, conditions seemed to be ideal!
I am guessing that the bullets were either damp or very wet, and the soldiers either dumped them or buried them so as not to be used by their enemy.
That's the prevailing theory Fred - makes sense to me.
Maybe you need to file a claim for a newly discovered lead mine! Incredible...
No kidding David. It's a wonder anything grows in that field with all the lead and powder!
Walk, do you have any theories about why you are reading such great signals now and weren't reading anything in previous hunts here?
hey sis!! Fun to hear from you on here! No. I have lain awake thinking about it! All I can think is that metal detecting has to do with conductivity and electromagnetic fields. So there must be a perfect storm of conditions. Soil conditions, atmospheric conditions . . . there MUST be a scenario where its simply optimal. And for some reason, it seems optimal right now.
I'm glad it's optimal now because you are finding things hand over fist. and whether it's a percussion cap or a buckle, it's a real kick to find anything.
@@camillesauvager8542 You got that right. I'm amazed anything is still LEFT! Found a couple buttons and 19 bullets last time out.
Have you ever read a period account of them discarding cartridges like this? It seems so wasteful and I'm fascinated by the reason why.
No Regiment, I haven't. The usual theory is that the paper or gut powder bags that were attached to the bullets got damp.
Another reason the relics can look corroded is a decaying body.
No evidence of that here - but makes sense Johnny.
I want to go to Cold Harbor
Yeah! Funny . . . I want to go to Georgia!
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 so a few months ago I found a J hook within 5 minutes of detecting. Then I found 6 pistol bullets within a 3 foot diameter almost as if they were dropped. Weird thing is you can still make out the trench mounds but I didn’t find anything in them
Man I have to get up there before I hit 70
Cold Harbor has been hammered, but there are still a few relics in the right places!
Uh Rah Walker.
Back atcha, Dennis!
Could I join you guys on a hunt
That landowner is VERY selective. I'm not saying he doesn't give anyone else permission, but I CAN say I've never seen another relic hunter on the place.
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 if you get a chance to ask him, I would love to join you on a hunt. Thanks
