Turning a Barrel into a Butcher Block
It's got a bunch of glue. It's a mass of environmental hormones. Throw it away as soon as you have an unknown allergy or hives.
Wouldn’t that just make the board soapy without a rinse
Projeto top
I upgraded to the 735 Dewalt. Total game changer. Found one in the box a guy used for one project....Facebook find $400. Virtually no snipe...thinking about adding the helical replacement...but that's more than the cost of the planer.
You are the best I’ve seen. 👏👏👏
Not that you asked, but I prefer your videos without music. Let me hear those shop sounds!
I genuinely appreciate the feedback, next one is a big one and will have plenty of shop sounds for ya!
Grrrrrreat
Thanks!
Nice Beautiful work 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 How much did you sell the 20 by 30 by 2.75 inches thick board? How much were the other two boards in CAD?
$1800ish for big one, other 2 still sitting on my shelf, they're smaller, will likely be in the $600-$1000 range
Why at the lowest $60?
@@luisgomezjr.1594 whoops, typo, left off a zero
gorgeous
Thanks!
Доска шедевральная, но тяжёлая!
have you done purple heart and maple together ?
Not just the 2 of them together but I bet it would look sharp!
@@ryanhawkins thanks for the reply
nice work
Thanks!
You absolutely the talent of the world. Beautiful work
Thanks so much for the kind words!
What did you use to create the finger holds?
Betterhelp = Snitches
measuring w/o accounting for kurf ... fools errand.
Personal lesson learned or constructive critique?
That is another beautiful board as expected, your woodworking skills are unbelievable! As gorgeous as the board is, I've got to say the most impressive part of the entire video for me is the camera work and the editing. If you did the camera work and editing that is pretty mind blowing!! 🤯🤯
I'm a 1-man show and I appreciate hearing that very much!
@@ryanhawkins that is even more incredible!!
Outstanding!! I'm still learning and actually bought some walnut and maple at a moving sale a few weeks ago and will be putting that together in to an end grain board this winter!
Exciting!
How much glue did you use?
Roughly...maybe 1.5 gallons
New ryan video 😀 cracking job mate looks stunning. Looking at that pile behind you in a few shots think might be time do some random style use up scraps stuff. I have loads of mahogany in the shop might need give similar thing a shot. 👍🏴🫡
Thanks Michael! I actually just spent a week doing a deep clean of the shop, this will be the last video you see that pile in, until I bring it out of storage for the project I have in mind for it :)
Absolutely beautiful as usual! Well done bro 👊🏼
Thank you once again!
magnifique réalisation
Thanks!
Hi Ryan, found your channel and am loving it. One thing, I like the commentary on what you are doing. Not music. I am trying to make boards with the 45 degree end grain & some tutorial would have been great. Love your work.
Appreciate the feedback. I do have other videos on this pattern where I narrate my process and I also have a long, in depth video on the 45 degree board I believe you're referring to. Thanks for watching!
Outstanding work. Wish I had the knowledge to do what you do.
Wow Dude! It's amazing!
Glad you think so!
Amazing work as always, thank you for taking the time to share with us 🤩👏🙏
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Beautiful work. I love how you've dialed in your process- it's all intentional and purpose-built. Just a lovely end product- true artisanship.
Thank you!
Love the videos. Nice work. Im in the same area as you. Where do you find all that nice lumber
Windsor Plywood in Courtenay
Boy I wish I had some of those off cuts
love this! im a beginner, what does the bee wax do at the end after oiling? Thanks!
The oil penetrates to moisten the fibers and the beeswax seals the surface to make it more impervious to liquids. Also gives it a nice sheen :)
Another beautiful cutting board! Thanks for sharing your amazing talents!
You're welcome! Glad you like it.
Beautiful and massive board.
Awesome build Ryan! 😎 Are you scared of using the jointer with the wood grain perpendicular to it ? At around 13:56 ? I guess you are taking super shallow passes ?
I have no worries doing it like that!
@@ryanhawkinsthank you for taking the time to answer my question!
And still can never have enough clamps!
True
Oh! A fresh upload, awesome :) Mentioned this in another vid, but have you thought of using a stop block at 24" on your mitre saw to save having to measure all your lengths? Still watching while typing, thanks for the upload :)
Yes, definitely, when I build a proper mitre saw station I plan to incorporate T-track in to allow for stop blocks on repetitive cuts.
@@ryanhawkins Awesome! Looking forward to seeing it :)
Great results as always!
Love the dust collection on the miter!
It's the best!
So awesome. Thank you for helping. I have had a few questions answered during this video. Thank you man.
Get a Rockler Glue Scraper. Works great in half the time. No I don't work for Rockler. lol
How much time do you have in one board?
Nice! great stuff. The boards are awesome AND over the top in a good way. thanks
😮
It would be nice & much better to make extra board w/the scraps BUT give it to a subscriber, most of whom can't afford such a nice cutting board, instead of to a wealthy client who won't appreciate the smaller duplicate as much.
What grit do you use on your drum sander and how many passes do you give each board?
I use 120 grit and replace the paper often. With fresh paper, it usually only takes 3-4 passes per side to clean up.
@ thanks. Been using a helical headed planer and am looking for alternatives. Drum sander is a bit out of reach but good info. Thanks!
Mucho pedo😅😅
Great job! to keep going even though you knew you were going to lose your ass. Been there done that still rock the T-shirt, beautiful board!!!
It's a cutting board!? How do I get one....
Thats a work of art. Or three...
Awesome work, the boards AND the video.
How much?
