  • For the last year and a half I've worked in an unfinished shop and now...it's finished!! My walls were in desperate need of a paint job and there were some other things to be done as well. I tackle it all in this video. Size of the shop is 34' x 58' with 12' ceilings. I hope you enjoy the renos, please leave a comment letting me what you think, see you in the next one!

Without doubt, this was the best workshop reno video I have seen in years. Enough detail, enough time lapse, enough narration and enough honesty to keep me engaged through to the very end. If channels like yours and Tasting History prove anything, it is that there is no magic formula to UA-cam success. Please yourself with what you're doing and the numbers will come ... and all the good and bad that comes along with them.

Ryan, have to congratulate you on this shop overhaul, it was massive and time consuming. The end result of your hard work paid off, you shop looks clean, organized, and well thought out. Although your 5+ weeks of hard labor was reduced to a 26 minute video, I have to say that even though you did all of the work, I felt your exhaustion. Looking forward to another one of your projects whenever you get the time to put out a new video. Thanks for sharing this journey with all of you fans.

New to your channel, the algorithm knows im a sucker for a workshop renovation.
Note to EVERY other woodworking channel on UA-cam - this is how it’s done! A workshop reno doesn’t have to be 35 episodes long!! We got all the information we needed & none we didn’t. It’s obvious your a hard worker because of this.

Great work getting the shop updated. I wish I had had that much room when I had my shop. I had a 20'X30' with a 4'X8' table saw setup in the middle and my multi use toolboxes taking up room. I did have all the tooling I needed but only had enough room leftover for a single project at a time. I often wondered how some woodworkers got by with much less room without spending too much room getting to the tools. I had twin daughters in the shop with me roller skating and playing hop scotch to start with but they turned into great woodworkers as time passed. I'm physically beyond woodworking now and don't have much more than some drills and circular saws to work with. But I get to enjoy others work through videos like yours.
    Take care,
    jack

I like the green walls. I also really love the space. All those ceiling height windows are a dream I have for my shop. I own the building, so I can add the windows. But, what I like the most is what you said about quality over quantity. That sort of thinking is so important in today's rushed world. Keep making sawdust my friend.

Wow! Ryan, I’ve done much of the same work at different times in my life, but never at one time or on such a massive scale! The shop looks absolutely amazing and well organized. Looks completely different. Putting the old plywood over the posts and completing the windows was a great idea as they dress up the shop a lot. I like the color and you were right, the shop is plenty big enough to handle a dark color. If you find that your partnership with the winery provides too many barrels for you, I’d be happy to take them off your/their hands. I’d even drive up from Southern California to pick them up!
No doubt it feels great to walk in the shop in the morning now and, it’s nicer to work in. It may not make you work faster, but it surely uplifts your spirit while you’re working. Congratulations on the shop makeover and hope you have a very long and lucrative career in it. Look forward to your future builds and videos, with or without music and voiceovers. I’ll even enjoy watching them more now since you have such a nice looking shop!

WOW! I am only a fan of one week but I have managed to go back and watch as many videos of yours as I can. I was also glad to send $, I really think your creative genius should be driven by your own sense of challenge and desire to accomplish. I imagine the ideas can really gang up on you. Perhaps you might jot down these ideas on 3 by 5 cards or in a notebook - just describe the project, add a sketch etc and review the notes during your snack breaks etc. And when the time is right, i.e. materials go on sale or are given to you, go for a test run and put it up on your beautiful web site. As for the beard, you decide; I'd rather not have one as they tend to itch and you'd have dust all over your face. The updated shop is very smart, organized and I love the attention to detail especially using all that scrap material to great effect. Carry on. and Thanks

I do have to say I am quite jealous of your spacious shop and your machines. Keep, the good work going. Amazing as always

Need you to come do mine next 🙃…. I can’t imagine how much more you enjoy the space now; that wall of windows being up so high is certainly one of the finest features IMO and the green paint seems like the perfect match for bringing all of it together and it wouldn’t even be close to the same without all that work you did casing the windows. I’m sure the center overhead beam, the windows casements and the paint makes it all flow oh so well 👍. Often (at least here in TN) you can get kids from the schools of arboreal/forestry to come out and give you pruning/maintenance plan to maximize the light while maintaining/improving the tree/bough line outside. Many of the folks around here have their properties marked and managed by students from UT, UNC, and ASU. Just an idea I had to mention as I saw the beautiful tree line out the windows. I don’t know what direction that is; seemed a southerly, but I don’t know exactly when you filmed all of this. Thanks again for sharing, I enjoyed the whole thing ❤

"A machine" doesn't begin to describe you, lad. For the feedback, I've always gone with the majority and not worried about the exceptions, can't please everyone all of the time. That said, I am seeing some builders starting second channels with just shop noises and no narration/music (see Cam at Blacktail Studios) which I *ass*ume wouldn't be a whole lot extra work as that's the raw video anyway. Keep crushing it.

I like the green walls and really enjoy your videos. So any content you put out is fine with me. I know the videoing and working and editing is a lot. I have a small you tube channel and it is hard to keep all that going. A lot of times i just want to work and build stuff and not do the filming because it slows me down and takes up so much more time. The renovation looks amazing. It is funny how much stuff you can accumulate over time. Take care and stay safe.

I think I’d have painted the ceilings white (only for overall space brightness), and I’d have mix’n’match painted the shelving units with some classic colors (just like your walls 💚) to reflect the barn’s heritage. Looking forward to many more videos in this space.

Hello Ryan, I am Real and first congratulations for all your hard work as I when true that in my old 1832 3 floors feed mill, and see that you take the time to redo when you realize it may be was a mistake... and I do appreciate all the recycling, for the green wall i really like when it was prime light green, as they hunter green makes the place look smaller than it is, love the time laps video and it does close down as you apply the finish coat but they are some good solutions around that for the future if you decide to light it up, Keep up the good work and we will be following up with your channel. Sincerely Real N.

Hey Ryan, new remodeled space is GREAT. Really enjoy all your videos, keep them coming when you can. Getting ready to try my first end grain build. Thanks for all the great tips and DYI information. One thing you do need to do is answer your emails. I have sent several without any response. I know you're busy, but you need to take care of the fans you have and pay attention to their requests. All the best

Philip, my apologies, I’ve been not good at following up with emails and messages lately, had a little too much going on. Finally getting a handle on everything. Thank you for your patience.

I can't believe you renovated that entire shop in only 25 minutes and 42 seconds. Sure seems like it would have taken a lot longer.
    Incxedible job. Well done.

Incredible solo work with the shop reno and the green looks great. Love the honesty and ownership of where you are at, where you want to be, what you have accomplished, and what you haven't followed through on. Keep up the great work.

Looking back to your videos - specially your video about money - there is one thing what I have to mention: you have a relatively large shop and do a huge amount of unnecesarry material movement by hand. Sometimes you even move them several meters instead of just pulling your movable benches.

Instructions not clear. I now have a ceiling for a floor and a floor for a ceiling. Down is up, south is west, east is north.
Would you love to rebuild a 100 year house for me? I'm close to calling it quits with it 😅

Hey Ryan the shop looks good alot of work went into it so be proud of your achievements thus far. I like your videos as they are. You cannot please everybody just yourself, trying to please everyone will never give you the success that come from hardwork. Keep doing what you do and remember success comes from failure too, love your channel and like everything in life it's a work in progress as life is.... 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
