GIANT Boards Are Nearly Done!

- A lot has happened in the shop since last week! I put the hammer down on bringing this giant board project to completion and although not everything is 100% complete, a good majority of the boards are at the final stages. I walk you through all the progress I made and throw out some ideas of what I'm thinking of working on next.

If you are looking for a more serious table saw in the future, I'll recommend the one I got a couple years ago, from akhurst machinery over in vancouver, its the Cantek TA-12, 5hp and a 12" blade it has some serious power! and it was around $2000 CAD which was very reasonable for what it is, my only complaint is the splitter on it made it impossible to have an outfeed table the way it mounts so I use it without any safety, but I feel if you have a thorough understanding of the tool it's not strictly necessary.
I'm 23 and lucky to have my own shop, and currently attending the Camosun College fine furniture program.
Love these updates, I'll always be keeping an eye out for them!

Make a round set of boards. Maybe a chaotic one too??? IDK. You make AWESOME cutting boards. I would totally use this. Age would look good i think. A board to pass down in the family....if people still do that? IDK , but these are great!!

Ryan I'm not a wood worker but, have done wood projects in the very distant past. Now a days I enjoy restoring/customizing old cars. My current project is a 1948 Chevy Truck (which has a wooden bed floor). That said I still appreciate the hard work talent talent that goes into making what I view as art. Your pallet tablet got me to subscribe to your channel. I think that your channel will grow nicely as time goes on. Keep the videos coming. I know I'm not the only one who enjoys them.

@@ryanhawkins Give it time. Your extremely talented. Once you figure out your marketing and get into the right market you're gonna have apprentices making these things to keep up. Suggestion - inlays may be the differentiator.
Love your videos! You're work and designs are nothing short if amazing! Both ny Grandads were wood workers. I still have some slabs of Myrtle that one of them used for different projects. Ever work with that wood? Anyway, thanks for sharing and hope to be a customer one day!

They look amazing dude am In process of starting doing things like this although when a seen the prices your charging and selling them at done the convertor there is no way am gonna get that for boards here in this country. Never in million years although good on you for getting it. The totally random ones look amazing! 🏴👍

Moist lumber is susceptible to fungal staining. This staining does not cause physical decay, but it looks bad. Commonly called "blue stain," the offending fungi may be yellow, orange, purple, gray, or red in addition to shades of blue. The stain penetrates into the sapwood and cannot be removed by resurfacing.
Lumber mills can prevent these blemishes without chemical treatment through standard air-drying practices or, especially in moist climates, kiln drying.
However, a lot of lumber is treated with biocides called anti-sapstain treatments. While preventing visible blemishes, these can disfigure the toxicological profile of an otherwise benign product.
Hardwood 'flooring' (unfortunately) 'can' contain a mixture of biocides. Common active ingredients include 3-iodo-2-propynyl-butylcarbamate (IPBC), propiconazole, isothiazilines, and ammonium chlorides. These mixtures may also contain solvents and chlorothalonil. - - Unless you got these boards cut directly from an oak log at a mill - I could only guess they'd be questionable as being 'food-safe'?? :/
have you thought about doing live streams like when your doing glue ups or finish work it would be content going out and views too it would also help with building a community in witch could generate sale
that way you can build a video stockpile in witch you have to fall back on for editing perposes for when the creative juices fall slightly
Its all about keeping the you tube happy when it comes to getting paid the more content you put out the more views the more revenue i know setting up cameras and editing takes time out of the build proses. but even if you have go pros set up on like your jointer, table saw, bandsaw, glue station ready to go and then all you have to do is take the memory cards out and download them ready to do editing its easier than setting up every time and you can get some great B-roll footage to bulk out the length of the longer videos that you have to do editing for
as for the the content mate keep doing you and in the good old film field of dreams if you build it they will come

Yo uso hojas de Freud en mi Sierra de mesa. Utilizo un acabado fino de 80 dientes para cortes transversales y una ranura fina de 30 dientes para cortes Al Hilo. En mi Sierra de cinta uso una hoja de Sierra de 3/4” con 3 dientes por pulgada. Todo lo mejor para usted! 🙏🙏
Huh, I thought we were going to see you dip the boards so we can see them finished. Ah well, no big deal. I saw another poster suggested that you consider making some round boards, which may, or may not be an interest. I did see a guy make a two inch thick round lazy Susan, and it actually looked awesome, but I don’t think a lazy Susan needs to be so thick. Well I seem to be rambling about nothing. Just wanted to let you know your boards are very cool looking. Good luck with your table saw.

Time to move up to a Harvey or, if your loaded with $$, a SawStop table saw. Also, think about a very fine dust collector - you cut a lot of wood , so you make a lot of micron ans sub-micron sized dust particles. Not good for your lungs. I built a cube to hold a 22" Lasko fan on one side, and 20x25x1 3M Filtrete furnace filters on the other 5 sides.
I like your board patterns; creative and beautiful. At 2+" thick and 25+ pounds, how are they selling? Beast of a board.

All Pallet uild videos seem to get a lot of views, because pallets are free in most places. People want ideas of what to use them for. 😁👍

@@ryanhawkins Oh, your in Canada. A couple of my next door neighbors are in Canada too. We walk or drive across the border all the time. No passports needed, and no border patrol at our homes. Lol Oddly, no line on the ground either. Just my privately owned fence line, with an open gate. Anyway, yes.. if your in Canada, there are lots of free pallets available. I'd love to see you build some boxes.. like cigar box styled jewelry boxes, or larger storage or magazine boxes, using your techniques. I know, they would have to be much thinner planks for the final product. Much thinner than a cutting board is. But, I have faith in your abilities. Talk to your wifey about how that should look, she has great taste. BTW, she was correct when she told you to stop there. It was perfect. 😁👍❤

@@ryanhawkins...I was born a carpenters son, raised swinging a hammer. Didn't appreciate it at all! Now after 15 years away from it... Set up a small woodworking shop here on the east coast. And am loving it! Thanks to people like you, I can watch and learn way more then I can ever apply

why are these people still using oak as it is an open grained wood and will keep the bacteria and should not be used for cutting boards
White oak is a closed grain wood and I respectfully disagree with it keeping bacteria. At 24:05 in another video on the channel called “Making End Grain Cutting Boards from Reclaimed Oak & Walnut” I explain my thoughts on using oak in cutting boards. If you see where I am wrong or have some studies you’ve come across, I’m open to learning.

Making cutting boards is not going to make you rich. You are killing the tools, spending a lot of money on electricity and wasting time. Are you even making $10 an hour. You could be making beautiful furniture in less time and make few thousands of dollars a piece.
😂Yes, I believe I am making more than $10/hr but you are right, cutting boards do not make a man rich. But they do create monthly cash flow which allows me to live while working my way into bigger, more profitable projects. Oh and my electrical bill is probably my cheapest expense - less than $5/day.
Woodworkers who wants to be rich just pours buckets of epoxy to the woods. The patterns he makes so unique and not many UA-camrs/woodworkers are capable to do the same🤷
