2023 F-150 Lightning ER 0-100% DC Fast Charging Test | Ford Needs A Better Charging Strategy!
I kind of don't know anyone that does charging based on time, it's always based on distance to the next location. This test seems like it's more a charging speed test when it's time limited, and if the charging speed was faster then it obviously would have gone significantly further. Full disclosure, I have a Mach E Rally and I haven't done any road trips with it yet but I will at some point. It's a blast to drive and the efficiency doesn't really bother me that much, being in Canada one of the reasons I got it was for the traction in the winter (in those situations it's going to be much better than a lot of other EVs).
Where is all the detailed testing on the Macan EV
My issue is this isn't available in 8-9 passenger size. I'll wait for a real minivan.
I love this van, and may get one in the used market one day. The range is fine for the occasional trip, but I think i definitely rather have an EV9. Here on the east coast you don't often get to roadtrip for 200 miles at 70mph. This would be a great suburban family vehicle (Soccer Mom).
I try to be openminded about OOSvideos, hoping that they will not be bias in their content and the first comments they make is to compare a hummer range to a model 3. Apples and oranges.
There is no way this is good for the batteries, i feel sorry for the second owner
'Really impressive results.' Erm. No. Very unimpressive. Those things are just an ego trip for many owners. It would be interesting to see how far it could travel with half the battery weight and capacity. Probably significantly more than half the distance.
Please, perform a Blazer EV towing test. The RWD has the most practical towing capacity of 3,500 lbs which can be as much as a small utility trailer or even a camper trailer (full size or folding camper). In fact that could be a great opportunity to see if a medium sized folding trailer loaded to be 3000 lbs can be towed what kind of distance (as it's low profile would not pull so much drag).
70 miles per hour is way too slow. Has to be at least 80.
Great job! That range is totally adequate 99% of the time. I had a Volvo 240 that couldn’t achieve that number of miles on a full tank of gas 😂
Enough with the stupid hands-in-the-air thumbnails!!! Looks Ridiculous.
There are several software updates on the DCFC module that supports longer boost and 500amp charging. It could change the charging experience significantly
The bZ4X ensures premium comfort with durable SofTex®-trimmed seats, which are eco-friendly and elegantly crafted, balancing beauty and functionality in a way that only Toyota can achieve in this cutting-edge electric vehicle.
Beautiful vehicle just not a fan of small backseat windows
lol looks like this trip was only 1.4 kWh! That’s an electron guzzler! Just like its brother the H2 with the 6.0 gas guzzler! Only the rich can afford these hogs.😂. At least Silverado EV can get 2.3-2.7 depending on temperature which is more doable for my preference.
The comments regarding the truck despite it's flaws, is exactly why I'll have one soon.
Good ole prickly Kyle to the rescue.
The very definition of brute force.
My 3/4 ton Yukon XL gets over 400 miles per tank of fuel no matter winter or summer. Grades do affect it like any other vehicle. It takes 10-13 minutes to fill it, then, back on the road. It can tow 12,500 pounds. There is no difference between city or highway usage. $72,000.00, a 1 hour charge to get to 1%, and a total range of 214 miles. Solid, undeniable truth that EVs technology just isn't there yet. A total waste of time and money!
Yeah, Andreas is cool and more of him is appreciated!
Definitely more Andreas testing. Nice job!
Gut gemacht, Andreas!
Oof that charge rate.. my dinky 77kWh pack draws 50kW more at the same SOC.. Edit: ok it’s revealed later that they were station limited, that’s understandable then
You guys should consider doing a "real world" test. Like going on a trip where you actually need to be somewhere at a certain time. Then you can see what normal people in the US actually face on a daily basis when they pull up to yet another Electrify America station where all the chargers are out of order, or there is 1 open with a line or 10 cars waiting and you've only got 10 miles of range.
They've done a half dozen trips like this. Just as you describe.
In my opinion, the prices charged by these DC fast chargers are doing a lot to discourage EV adoption, not to mention the poor reliability of the chargers.
I'll stop leaving a thumbs down when you guys can review a ev without saying anything about Tesla, please just STFU about Tesla for F sakes
I also understand the seats on the Hummer EV are not that comfortable for front seat occupants. 😁
You guys are just driving in flat ground and roads. Not using regen or stopping or slowing down at lights.. ;-( Not testing a EV...
Good show but nobody ever drives her car till dead
What was the result? Did they even mention it? So much drama about running out and trying to charge, I can't find where they actually mention the results.
I thought it was just me. He ran out, glanced at the screen, started giggling and got out. Then started jacking around with the 12v batt. Took a while, but after skipping around, I heard them say 293.
@@Charlesbjtown 323 to reduced power. 328 to dead
@davidowlarry Thanks for clarifying. I typically like these range tests and reviews, but this particular one was very frustrating.
@@Charlesbjtown It's his first range test. Would have been super easy for them to edit things in to "clean it up" but that takes away the human element. I'm sure he'll improve in the next one. I enjoy his sense of humor.
Andreas did a great job. Obviously he is new at being the sole speaking talent for an entire video and he was nervous, but my expectation is he will mature in time and be a valuable reviewer. As an educator myself, it makes me smile to see a new company, like Out-of-spec, train their new employees. Unlike some other businesses, your trainees are out there for all to see. Jordan was once Andreas in skill level and look at him now. My congratulations to Kyle and good job helping young people along to find themselves in a new career.
The lip smacking noise is insufferable
...and yeah 😉
This Hummer EV is a better road tripping vehicle than say a Model Y as long as the destination is less than 250/275 miles away. Otherwise the Y gets there quicker because the time to sit and charge the Hummer will take twice as long.
The hummer also gets the gas equivalent of about 15 mpg.
@@monaezytwo6513 it's closer to 50. The hummer only has about 6 gallons equivalent of energy on board.
it was good until "attitude kyle" turned up.can't stand him.
He has a great attitude. He is just so far ahead of most people when it comes to EV knowledge he can seem a bit know it all’ish. Plus he’s like the supervisor of this outfit, and you know how supervisors can be, always telling people how they should and should not be doing stuff. 😅
@Icayn How do you explain how he talks to alyssa? He's not her supervisor.
@ true but I think that attitude goes both ways in that relationship. They kinda relate to each other that way. Alyssa comes from a feisty family. She just doesn’t show it so much on camera.
I was so happy when Kyle showed up, this other guy is super boring.
Please don’t feel guilty for charging when testing. As someone who is cross shopping this and the Sierra EV I can tell you, you are doing a great service. Where I live people are picking up these Hummers because they are far more well rounded and useful than a Corvette or 911. They are toys but useful in a wider range of conditions, while still being fun. This adds value.
If Gm ever to do a electric semi truck they probably have 2000+ kwh battery pack. I am serious
Look at what the EV semi trucks in Europe are doing, absolutely no one is running a pack that large and the trucks are extraordinarily successful.
@@otm646what are they
Nice job, Ryan. I liked the fixed camera view also. As you mentioned, it would've been better if you had it focused on the dash, so we could see the various parameters . Live and learn.
You guys should take 3 or so of the most common cars, for example a Model 3, an Ioniq 5 and a EVEquinox and do the same range test when its 80 degrees, 45 degrees and 10 degrees and show what the variation is due to temperature.
I was hoping that, with more vehicle formats entering the EV market, we'd finally stop comparing the efficiency of small, low-roof sedans with fullsize SUVs and trucks. The Tesla Model 3 is the equivalent of 40+ mpg gas sedan, while the GMC HUMMER EV is the equivalent of a ~10 mpg gas SUV/truck. No auto journalists would ever compare the efficiencies of a Toyota Camry and Dodge RAM 1500 TRX. 🤷♂
You don't need to misrepresent the ICE efficiency. None of these Hummer variants ever got 10 MPG. Even a Suburban got 14 MPG back in the day.
@@otm646 Well, in my example, I referenced a TRX, which literally gets 10 mpg City/12 mpg Combined.
@@otm646dude an H2 or H1 you were lucky to get 10mpg. My old H3 with the inline 5 barely got 14mpg.
@@otm646 but when lifted and with 37" tires they did. Lol.
The difference in battery capacity ratings is IEC versus ISO battery energy capacity standards. We saw the same issue with the 57 kWh sticker on the 60 kWh Chevy Bolt EV's battery. I just default to whatever is shown on the vehicle's display (I believe the ISO number), which for the 200 kWh Ultium pack would be 212-213 kWh.
Kind of a big blunder to do a range test if you start the test with super low tire pressure… you departed at 45psi instead of 52psi…
Hm maybe its because it is legally not allowed (in germany) to run out of fuel on the "Autobahn", as well as not to drive below certain speed as well (i think 80´s km/h or something) so it makes much sense the cutoff is ... when the batterie really "dies" in the software to prevent damage, to have it run above these criterias
You mentioned lack of one pedal driving. There should be a setting where you can enable or disable creep mode and that should basically enable one pedal driving :)
I love that the Arriya was pulling 10 watts, and the Hummer has over ELEVEN THOUSAND pound feet of torque, to divot the concrete
How did you get the arrival battery percentage on Google maps?
Andreas and Jordan are great in these videos. I am so glad Max is gone, I couldn't stand that guy.
The weird thing is, if you remove the gigantic battery from the thing it still weighs around 7,000 pounds.
How gm managed to do this, no one knows
GM doesn't underrate their batteries. They simply let you use the buffer that will get eaten up after degradation. After the first year you should have 85kwh and a little extra. The Bolt basically had no buffer. So don't expect to go over EPA after a few years.
It’s called the fear selector😂
It’s sharing power Tesla guys!! 😂
