Dear Caroline, congratulations 🎉 I’m just catching up with your podcast - what a lovely episode - and since you ask I can share what I knit for my kids 😊 I only ever felt the desire to knit for a baby when I was pregnant for the third time, but it was a first girl 💕 and I landed on a Selma Sleep Suit (knit in drops Air). My girl was born mid-September, I did size 3-6 months so she could be able to wear it all winter long. And honestly, it was in use ALL THE TIME. So practical! The only thing I would do differently is sewing the first button a little lower (as babies can have chunky necks 😅) I will send you some pictures on IG 😊 all the best for you and your daughter ❤

I might would make a few more baby mittens and booties with the extra yarn, burp cloth, wash cloth, anything you will need lots of.

I love your Eva cardigan! It’s on my list to knit. All of the baby knits are adorable. I love the mommy and me knits💕💕. Your baby is part of your life and we watch you to get to know you….so it’s absolutely fine to talk and show your baby things!! It’s all knitting! If we aren’t having a baby, we all usually know someone who is and we can get gift ideas!! ❤

I’m also due in October and I feel the same way about figuring out what to knit! I have only one WIP going right now (a cardigan), and feel that any other garment knitting for myself will have to wait until after I deliver so that I can get a good fit. But if I cannot knit for myself then I feel a bit lost on what to do - although your baby knits were quite inspiring!

I never worry about having leftover yarn from my projects. I have made easy and very cozy blankets using all my leftovers.

Lovely episode and beautiful knits. Your Eva looks great. I love that pattern. About to cast on my fourth... If you are planning to do babywearing (soft carrier or wrap) I can highly recommend an oversized cardigan to put on over top of the wrap/carrier. That way you can take it off when you get hot and also close it over the baby for warmth. Especially since she is a winter baby ❤

Such wonderful news, congratulations! I admire you for having the will to knit on such warm days! I was pregnant at this time last year and struggled so much I barely finished any of my WIPs. 😅 Anyway, I gave birth in December and the most useful item was a blanket (Take a Sunrise by Fifty Four Ten Studio). We've used it through winter, all spring and even know when it's almost summer. I crocheted a pair of baby booties that didn't get much use, simply because we dressed our baby in footed trousers/PJs and because SO MANY people gifted us socks. Other knits are quite bigger in size so it'll be a while before any of them get worn (the Bearly Bonnet as well as the Newborn Vertebrae that I modified heavily to use up 1.3 skein of Malabrigo Rios). I didn't want to knit garments or accessories in size NB just because I didn't know how big the baby was going to be and I wanted to get the most use out of them if that makes sense. :)

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! I'm due with my first (a baby girl) at the end of July and have been knitting quite a bit for her. The most helpful advice I've gotten from other knitters is that you can never have too many hats/bonnets and knitting sweaters in a teeny tiny size (before they can support their own head) isn't quite as nice because it's hard to get them into. I personally adore the lace dress body by knitting for olive - it's such an adorable pattern albeit a labor of love.

Congratulations Karoline 🥰 ! I had a baby girl 3 month ago and my most used knits are definitly blankets, hats and the Luma Jumpsuit by Sandnes Garn (the pattern is in the book Soft Start 2213). Wooly rompers on the contrary did not get much wear but I do not regret knitting them as it made me happy and they will be used on dolls or soft toys 😉!

I was going to recommend the Eva cardigan, i absolutely loved making it, and yes, the shoulder construction is brilliant. Congratulations on your pregnancy, I cant wait to see your baby knits

Meeen de er desværre ikke så smarte, når man skal skifte ble 1000 gange om dagen 😅 Så det kan desværre ikke anbefales. Vi har dog været meget glade for strikkede sokker og tæpper 😊

I have a 6 month old, second baby. Some advice- knit a few hats! They always disappear when you need them. Also I prefer jumpers over cardigans- less rucking up/ flapping when holding baby. I particularly like ‘Buddy’ jumper by Erika Knight as it goes over big heads well. To consider- will you use cloth nappies? Will you use a sling? Both would impact makes. Cloth nappies- huge bum and longer rise needed. Sling- no attached feet, tie booties and knitted ‘jacket’ are useful, maybe a balaclava if v cold. Congratulations, lots of exciting knitting coming up!

Amazing news, congratulations!!! :) also you are so wise already, I have given birth 3.5+ years ago and still struggle with "not having bounced back" etc! Baby knits personal tips: superwash is great because I thought I would just handwash things but in reality it did NOT happen and post-birth Julia just felted a LOT. Anything tincanknits is amazing, their patterns fit really well and their Beloved Bonnet fits for ages and ages - highly recommend. I also remember that the first few months were such a blur, I was happy to get kiddo dressed at all so I appreciated the handknits a lot more from 4-5 months on... Lastly, I found things with buttons (except for on the top of the shoulder) useless, as your baby might lie on them and get uncomfortable. I made tons of sweaters with wide necklines (aka just not going down a needle size for the neck ribbing) and found them the easiest to put on - my husband struggled endlessly with wrap cardis and buttoned vests :D

Congratulations! I knit a lot of baby clothes as gifts and requests. My advice would be to not spend too much money on yarns nor buy really cheap acrylic. Babies need quite a turnover in garments due to poop and spitting up lol. Fancy handwashing yarns are not practical as you will know. Also four ply/fingering is ideal weight wise as much bulkier can be restrictive and over warm. They also sit better on little bodies. Drops baby merino and Sirdar Snuggly are popular choices people ask me to knit up and they look well though not for everyone. Cardigans and jumpers in all sorts of sizes would be useful to knit now. Here in UK they can be used year round. Knitted leggings/trousers can fall foul of leaky nappies and harder to dry and clean in comparison to commercial cotton ones which aren’t too costly. So I’d say if you see something nice that you like, knit it.. It’s fun turning out baby sizes. Enjoy and take care .

Such happy news! When I was expecting my children, I did not know how to knit. My mom knit a cardigan for my son that I absolutely loved putting on him! It even was worn by my grandchildren 😊

Congratulations! 🎉 such wonderful news! I wish you a wonderful pregnancy. I was a knitter when pregnant with my second (started when my first was about 1), and I have to say that I didn't knit a lot of baby things. Little wool booties and hats were very useful, and I made a big blanket that we used a lot (and still do) The few clothing items I made for him were for 12months and older, he was in 3mo size when he was born and grew so fast that he was in 12mo clothes by the time he was 7 months. He's 3 now and in 5yo clothing, so I'm really happy I didn't make a lot of tiny baby clothing. 😅

Oh my , please don’t feel that you have to apologise for knitting pink for a baby girl,enjoy everything about you pregnancy and embrace the fact that you are having a little girl. This gender thing is getting out of hand in my opinion. Congratulations ❤x
