@@nisarmomin3214 thank you :-)
Thank you Sophie, how do you sharpen your knife
Thank you Sophie, for a perfect right angle, could the remaining corner bit be removed by nibbling or would the glass fail
@@welshartnow a grinder might work
@@SophiesStainedGlass thank you
Very informative. Love to see video on which glass is easiest to cut
I find the hand made (mouth blown) glasses cut really nicely. St Juste and Lamberts.
Hi Sophie is the middle channel always 2mm irrespective of the width of the lead 6/8/10/12mm - thank you
It's always 2mm (well, actually it's just under but is treated as 2mm).
@@SophiesStainedGlass thank you Sophie, could you do a video in the future on safety in the studio, lead fumes dealing with, various other things you might do
How are you curling that lead..?? That's the bit I needed and it was sped up...
I have a series on difficult leading don in real time. This is one of them ua-cam.com/video/Z6NO5b-cqzc/v-deo.html or if you prefer, go into the settings on UA-cam and play the video slowed down.
Sophie, its a pleasure to watch you work. Your live videos are so authentic, in real time, and truly a testament to the skill of a stained glass artist. I do leaded glass myself, but in no way am I as experienced as yourself. I see the lead cutters you are using (not the oyster knife), they look brilliant, can I ask what they are called and where you get them? I would love to see whether they help me to cut lead more accurately.
I get mine from Reading Stained Glass. You could try searching for gasket cutters online.
I always learn some new technique from watching your videos :) This time, using a piece of scrap lead so the nails don't chip the edge of the glass. One question: do you use lead with different heart heights? Otherwise it might be hard to get the overlap with your edging pieces
No, I'm more rough and ready than that!
Hi Sophie - what soldering iron would you recommend, like the kink on that one you use within the video, thank you
Ignore the kink - I changed the tip and ordered the wrong one ! It works fine but I'd buy a straight one next time. It's a Weller 100
Thanks we are going to a 3 hour class and now I’m going simple because you helped me realize it is quite a bit of work. Thanks
Enjoy!!
Thank you for the video, my first panel will be a simple grid of squares - could I ask should I run long pieces of lead across the grid with shorter bridge pieces running up and down OR would you suggest using the short pieces both horizontally and vertically? Thank you Sophie
Try this video ua-cam.com/video/kwWnBcZKLns/v-deo.html
@@SophiesStainedGlass Thank you sophie
To do a 90° angle cut, the technique is the same?
You can't really cut 90 degrees
@SophiesStainedGlass why? If I cut the glass in two moments, one for each side and then knock it down very gentle it won't break... or will?
@@ricardogomespedro4365 try this video ua-cam.com/video/zAWYpE2_Jkg/v-deo.html
@SophiesStainedGlass that's it! Does it affects the cut if I make 2 cuttings, instead just one as you have made in the video?
@@ricardogomespedro4365 it won't work.
Strange. When you work I hear an angel singing. Thank you
🙂
im so grateful for all those videos
My pleasure
Hi Sophie, thanks for your great videos. I have a question - how long should you leave lead light cement to harden before you can lift the panel? I am making a large panel over 120 x 76 cm. I cemented it a week ago and the cement is still quite soft. When will it be safe to move? Thanks for reading. Patricia Lenihan
It should be fine after a couple of days and definitely after a week.
Thanks Sophie 😊
amazing job 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you 🙌
Excellent tutorial, thank you. Is the heart always 2mm irrespective of the came width?
Is usually measures slightly less but you treat it all as having a 2mm heart.
@@SophiesStainedGlass Thank you
nice job
Thanks!
not easy, but i should use a dremel to clean up the old lead, but great job
Yes, indeed.
that is an amazing piece of art, i love it
thank you.
Hi Sophie, thanks for all your educational videos. Is there a difference in the glass cutters? Sometimes I see a wide head and sometimes a narrow one? And is a steel wheel better than a tungsten one? Thank you, greetings Mireille
There are lots of different glass cutter and it's usually just about finding one you like the feel of. The ones with the small heads are supposedly for cutting curves but I don't find it makes much difference. Tungsten always best.
@@SophiesStainedGlass thank you for the information. I like your video's
I bought it yesterday and am curious to read it
Thank you and I hope you enjoy it.
who doesn't make mistakes, doesn't do anything !

Thank you for the video Sophie can I ask do you cut to the inside of the black patterns? Also how do formulate the design - what thickness etc do the lines need to be and is there any software which can help with this?

Hi another informative video . Thanks I’ve started to use enamels. Can you tell me what is the make of enamels you us. Thanks
Rockingham
Lovely work! Could you please add in the information above the Comments regarding the video's music? Thanks!
Done!
LOVE the signing
She's my daughter and I never get tired of hearing her x
Oh....I just saw the comment was from you kaye! I guess you know she's my daughter 😂
Can you score glass with that tool?
no
Can I ask why you didn’t paint the moons on or scratch them from the paint before you did the first fire Sophie?
Because I knew I would be doing a second firing. Just a tad easier.
Sophie and Freda, both of you, outstanding!
😊
Lovely being able to work indoors in your studio while the rain comes down, simply great, thank you for posting !
😊
Dear artist, if we want to use metal oxides instead of silver nitrate in glass painting., e.g. copper oxide, iron oxide, Cobalt oxide etc, and apply on float glass with the gum arabic, would it provide a rehearsal for beginners in glass painting?
I have only tried prepared glass paints. If you have these things to hand it might be interesting to experiment.
Equally appreciate the music by Farida D'Souza🙏
Nice to hear :-)
Thank you for informative video 😊
My pleasure 😊
I love this - My landing is so very dark and never thought about putting in glass panels into a bathroom.
:-)
Where do you buy reinforcing steel that fits in came?
I buy it from stained glass shops.
Muy bueno muchísimas gracias.por compartir su conocimientos
You are welcome
Muy buenos tus trabajos
Thank you!
Excellent demonstration. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
That makes sense. My job is looking good anyway, so thanks once again - really appreciated your video
Really helpful thanks Sophie - everything I needed to know, very clear. I am wondering though, whether to leave the final trimming for a few days, when the putty has cured? I think that's what the person advised, who repaired the actual stained glass for me. I'd be interested to hear your view on that (or the view of anyone with the experience/know-how). Thanks anyway for a great video.
I guess there are different ways to do it. A professional glazier is unlikely to want to return to jobs a few days later for practical reasons - and so not what I've been taught. That doesn't mean that it isn't a good option though.
thank you so much for this lovely video.
My pleasure 😊
I enjoy your videos very much and hope you continue to make them. I am learning so much from you and wish you were local and giving hands on classes! Keep 'em coming!
Thank you!
What kind of flux are you using? It looks like soap?
It's called tallow and it's rendered beef fat. Traditional.
Hello, I have been watching your videos for the last week. It was really very descriptive. But there are still some things I want to ask. can i talk to you? Can I send an e-mail?
