  • Plotter cutters can be really helpful when it comes to painting lettering. This video shows you how they work.

I am so glad to learn this. Thanks, Sophie.
Someone who works at one of the largest stained glass studios in the United States told me that they stopped cutting glass by hand and now cut all their pattern pieces using a water jet cutting machine.

Hmm... I'm not sure I approve... but then maybe that makes me sound like Ned Ludd!!

@@SophiesStainedGlass Hmmm - I was wondering when some glass workers would switch to water jet cutting. I mean, if a water jet can cut through thick metal, it can cut through glass. I wonder if the inconsistencies in the glass cause some pieces to shatter while being cut. Can you share the name of the studio that uses this technique. I would like to see a video of the process. Sophie - don't feel bad - I too am somewhat of a Luddite. After I retired, I tossed my cell phone. Most people wonder how I can live without it. Surprisingly, some people say it is a very good thing! I certainly don't miss the bothersome calls.

Thanks for the demo and showing the "blade" which I had not seen before. Like a previous comment, I have seen a Cricut machine being used for this purpose in the USA. I think the price for those varies a bit depending on the features you want. I have seen $159 - $425 at Michael's stores here. What spray paint will you use for the glass? Will it be outside or inside? Will you protect it in some way?

I'm still testing paints but the first one I tried was spray paint (enamel) for cars. I've just bought a specialist enamel from a sign painting company. I'll do a video when I actually do the job at the end of May.

@@SophiesStainedGlass Thanks for the reply. Many car paints today have a clear coat finish over the colored paint. The clear coat not only makes the paint shine, it also protects the paint from UV radiation and fading. Would you use clear coat too? I guess it would depend on whether the paint is on the outside in the elements or inside the house. I imagine the enamel paint from the sign painting company would work well outside. Looking forward to your video.
