Back in action with the kitbashed Warhammer 40k - Swamperial Guard army, and this time we're adding some mortars to the ranks. This was a tricker build than normal due to the smaller size of the bases, but we managed to cram the miniatures in, with our usual dose of swamp infusion.

Building a Fallout 3 Diorama from Scratch - Harold the Talking Tree Man
I made some random space soldiers for xenos rampant a few years ago in a similar way to this, same idea with the stargrave trooper heads, but i used the death watch killteam bodies, and i used the Wargames Atlantic "space nam" arms. The muscular arms give a very punk vibe which fits with rogue trader era marines
Ahh man they sound dope actually, love the idea of the bare arms with the bulky armour, I might have another shot at squats in the future and borrow some of your ideas!
@SwampRatMiniatures nice, wargames Atlantic are in the process of releasing some heavy troops (which I forget the name of) which might also be useful for you
This might just be your best build yet. You have a knack for trench scenes. It's good to see your channel steadily growing. Great stuff
Ahhh really appreciate it my man, I wasn’t planning to turn this into a trench scene to begin with, it just sort of happened 😄 I really enjoy building them though so there’ll almost definitely be more of them to come!
Can you let me know the name of the glue? Loved the video
Thank you Master Elrond! The glue I used is called UHU glue, it’s really useful for effects on miniatures!
The bullet casings are on the wrong side …. But they were probably just shooting in the opposite direction a minute ago …. Weren’t they?
Of course they were my friend 😉 hahaha thanks for watching dude
Big fan of this mate! The glow is pretty close to reality, especially if the barrel has had a minute or so to cool off in those conditions
Thank you my man! Yeah I wanted it to look like they’ve just settled down from a long engagement so I’m glad it’s translating! thanks for watching dude
Love the winter theme on this diorama!!! Definitely cool looking minis to contrast😊😊😊
Heyyy Cerise 😁 glad you like it, felt right to do something winter since the weathers becoming so bleak haha, thanks for your support as always!
3:48 the cartridges are on the wrong side of the gun.
You got it comrade, half a grapefruit coming your way
Subbed. Keep cooking 🧑🍳
Thank you kindly! Definitely will, much more to come!
The casings on the wrong side doesn't seem too off. The damned things get kicked everywhere.
Glad you think so my man, and thank you for watching!
I really dig the barrel heat glow and the love the WWII army feel this little diorama has
Thank you as always my dude! Definitely, it was giving me some battle of the bulge vibes when making it 😁 hope you’re good!
The Winter War, you say... Tulta munille!!!!!!!
Lmfao UA-cam translate had that as ‘fire the eggs’ so I thought I’d google it instead to see what it really means, pretty funny stuff 😁
Preserve if ya posh. :)
Absolutely, love a bit of apricot preserve on my afternoon sour dough 😉 thanks for watching!
Love it! Inspirational! As for the shells being on the wrong side, Im sure they were bouncing off the sandbags and rolling down the other side.. they look a bit pee wee for the mighty auto cannon.
Yep, I can accept that as head canon 😁 thank you for watching my man!
Another interesting and inspiring video, Im very impressed (sadly I have little imagination for this sort of thing but it doesn't stop me from enjoying others' handiwork 😊) I thank you, oh masterful rodent of sogginess 😊
Appreciate it John thanks for the kind words my man, and you may be surprised what you end up creating if you sit down with a bunch of random parts/materials and a spare afternoon or two 😁 thanks for watching!
Man, now I want to make a winter detachment for my guard army.
In the words of Palpatine…DO IT!
@@SwampRatMiniatures At most I can do a single squad of guardsmen, but you convinced me.
The casings should be on the other side, but great diorama
Yessir you may now claim your half a grapefruit 😁 thank you though dude, glad you like!
Which foam do you use? Looks great
This is just some polystyrene insulation board stuff I bought at a hardware/building supply shop I think, nothing fancy! Thanks for watching dude
This is such dope looking diorama and I gotta say its just a bit more milk than cereal for me
Thank you my dude much appreciated! Agreed on the milk ratio, I like mine to just cover the cereal very slightly, then you have enough left for chocolatey milk at the end (depending on your cereal 😁)
Genuinely no clue as to how this channel isn't so much bigger than it is. These small dioramas have so much detail it's incredible. Please continue what you're doing
Ahh thank you my man, means a lot to hear stuff like that! Absolutely will, much more to come!
I love the base filled with so much little details: paired with the dynamic pose of the soldier of the front they create a small wonderful diorama! The winter scheme seems solid without too much hustle. If I remember correctly Sonic Sledgehammer made a bunch of videos for soldiers in winter fatigues/winter enviroment: check those out, maybe you can borrow some inspiration On the important stuff: 50% oat milk, 10% coffe, 40% cereals. As always, keep going!
Thank you as always Leif I’m glad you’re liking the build! And thanks for the channel recommendation, just had a Quick Look and he’s got a ton of good stuff actually, think this is the second channel you’ve introduced me to now 😁 hell yeah, I can respect those ratios, I go for the dairy milk myself but oat milk is definitely my favourite of the dairy-alternatives, appreciate your support as always my man
@@SwampRatMiniaturesspreading the knowledge of good channels is a moral obligation, especially in the zeitgeist of stupid algorithms, red arrows and blurred thumbnails.
I’m just starting my guard army and I’m doing it winter themed
Awesome, I really enjoyed these winter ones and might make do a small batch of them in future!
I think that effect turned out great! Although to turn a barrel that bright, that's a lot of firing. Great vignette as always!!!
Thank you my dude! Yep I wanted it to look like they’ve been in some intense fighting 😁
FIDDY!
😄, thanks for watching my man!
I love your dioramas! Also, the full belt is on the wrong side of the gun for the casings and empty belts to be there lmao.
Thank you my man! Hahaha yeah you got it, looked better aesthetically having the belt hanging and discarded casings all on the same side though 😁
3:50 your spent casings are "coming out" of the same place as where your belt of ammo is being fed into. However - most medium machineguns actually have the ejection port on the bottom of the machine gun, meaning your spent casings fall directly beneath, further meaning there actually isn't anything wrong with the placement of your bread tag spent casings.
Interesting, I didn’t know that actually but now I’m just gonna say it was intentional 😁 thanks for the little nugget of info my man, much appreciated!
2:55 yes one of us, one of us, one of us and I love this little diorama video thank you Mr. Rat and the casings should be on the other side I am looking foreword to that half a grapefruit XD
Hahaha, thank you as always dude, you can expect to receive your half a grapefruit in the next 53-75 working days 😁
@@SwampRatMiniatures I will mark my calendar lol
Maybe you could justify it by saying the cases eject from the bottom? Don’t know how that’d work with an ammo belt though
3:50 Ha ha you thought you’d get me I think it’s because it gets pulled through the other side… now please may I have my grape fruit Great diorama I’m running to my heavy weapons team now to fuse all the weapons together as I’m swapping them to 50mm
Casings come out of the bottom of most Medium Machine Guns. The M2 Browning he's loosely imitating can be fed from either side. He's seeing a fault he doesn't actually have.
Absolutely, went for aesthetics over realism there but half a grapefruit coming your way regardless 😁 luckily Jonathan has pointed out a lot of medium MGs spit the rounds out the bottom so i can pretend it was intentional, either way thanks for watching my man really appreciate it!
Dude!!!! This is awesome! Really like the winter feel. And the glowing barrel looks great! I might have to borrow your smoke/steam plume idea someday 😉 Ps. The casings bounced of the sandbags, back into the trench. So they are right where they should be. But feel free to send me half a Grapefruit anyway!
Wassssup Jeroen thank you as always my man!! Appreciate it dude, definitely give the smoke plume a go in the future, I think less is definitely more with them (even this one was a bit too much in the end). Hahaha I like your thinking, so many of them being fired they’ve spilled out onto the other side, I’ll send you half a grapefruit and two-thirds of a kiwi too 😁
Amazing build and brilliant back story!
Thank you Biscbob my man, there’ll be a bunch more of these ones to come in the future, explaining the rest of the lore for the Swamperial Guard 😁
Incredible build! Please don’t keep inspiring me to start a guard army, my wallet can’t handle it!
Hahaha, there’s always more room in the wallet for miniatures if you’re creative 😉 thanks for watching dude!
You don’t need to eat this week anyways. Just go to a GW store
Swampy!! Top video buddy
Thank you Biscbob, always appreciate your comments my man hope you’re good!!
I think the effect on the barrel is really nice and clean and the reason it may look “off” is because the effect isn’t reflected in the environment. Glowing metal is very radiant, especially in a wintery scene where we expect it be dark. A little catch light on the edges nearest to it with emphasis on metallics could really tie it in. It’s also a very intense warn hue in an environment that is very cold, adding another warm source like some fire or a lamp would tie everything together. That being said with the amount of time you put into it I think it looks awesome and adds a lot to this piece 😁
Yeah good shout actually my man definitely missed that on this build, not too late to add it luckily! Gonna have a little play around with it soon and see if it helps! Appreciate it though dude thank you for watching!
always look forward to your new vids me 🦆. Your dioramas just look so grim (in general) and creative. Awesome 🤘
Thank you my man, always appreciate you watching and commenting! Hope you’ve recovered from your cold now 😁
@@SwampRatMiniatures colds gone but the pulled ribs remain unfortunately, cheers for asking me 🦆
Uhh are the shell casings coming out the wrong side 😅?
Casings come out of the bottom of most Medium Machine Guns. The M2 Browning he's loosely imitating can be fed from either side. He's seeing a fault he doesn't actually have.
What he said ^, hahaha but yeah I thought they were coming from the wrong side too so I’ll honour your half a grapefruit prize regardless 😁
Streaking grime is god tier. Looks fking class man love it
I feel like I’m cheating because I end up using it in almost all my dioramas and builds recently, it’s just so good 😁 thank you though bro hope you’re good 👊🏻
The milk to cereal ratio is really dependant upon what cereal you are trying to milkify...milkolate...enmilken? Anyway, there is nothing worse than not enough milk in a bowl of cereal. I always tend to use more milk to ensure the cereal still has some lubrication. For sinky cereal, I put in enough milk to just cover the cereal bits with some small pieces sticking out. For floaty cereal, it is visually 2/3 cereal to 1/2 milk which usually leads to 25/32 not enough bowl so 2/13 cereal falls out onto the counter causing 2&4/5 swear words to be uttered. There is nothing wrong with the bullet casing placement. They are clearly pooping out the left side, bouncing off the fence post, over then gun and landing on the same side of the gun as the ammo cases. Sheesh... 😜
Canuck my man, what a well thought out milk-to-cereal explanation 😂 I agree though, I like to have a bit more milk than cereal as I need it wet and wild. I like the way you think, the sheer volume of casings is flooding them out onto the other side, and just for your continued support you deserve more than half a grapefruit, I’m gonna chuck in 2 apples and a blueberry, enjoy!
@@SwampRatMiniatures Awesome! That is nearly a complete fruit salad! Maybe there is hope for curing my scurvy. Thanks man! 👍👍
The casings should be on the other side! Can i have my bisected grapefruit now? XD
Hahaha coming your way my friend I think you may have been the first to point it out, I will determine your address via my psychic swamp rat powers and deliver your grapefruit on the wings of an eagle
DAKKADAKKADAKKA Great scene! Very Dawn of War Winter Assault
Ahh man what a game! I’ve been wanting to replay some of the Dawn of war’s recently, might just do it now, thanks for watching as always!
Sweet some guardsmen in the winter war.
Hell yeah, really fun building them in this winter style/scenery actually so I may have to do more of them! Thanks for watching Matt appreciate it dude
New army?
Could very well be in future, they’re really enjoyable to make tbh, need to finish my current army before I get side tracked with another though 😁
Great work! Thanks for sharing :) I can't help but wonder if they're still taller than firstborn marines 😅
Thank you my man, hahaha they’re fractionally smaller than the firstborns 😁 shows the scale creep though as these are noticeably larger than the original squats, but still a good bit smaller than current space marines!
what is no nails mastic?
Hello! It’s basically an adhesive that comes in tubes - usually used for building/decorating stuff and you can buy it (or something similar) from any hardware shop
@@SwampRatMiniatures ty!
Very cool, will have to use this for my next Killteam.
Awesome, they’re a really enjoyable build so I hope you have fun if you do something similar!
Great work mate 😉 I figured from the photos you'd shortened the legs, I was surprised to see the extent of shortening on the torsos and arms though! Honestly, wonderful stuff and very evocative.
Thank you my dude!! Yep, I went the full mile with these guys I wanted to have decent squat-like proportions instead of just having tiny legs and big old swinging ape arms 😁 appreciate you watching though and I’m glad you enjoyed it man!
These are really cool man
Thank you my dude, glad you like them 😁
