Even if you get overcharged, such as with street food, you can easily correct it later. In China, payments are made through your phone, so you can address any discrepancies if needed. The person who overcharged you can be held accountable, ensuring fairness and accuracy.

For the tickets, you can user your apple wallet to add a public transit card which works in all the major cities in China. This is way smoother than buying tickets every time or a physical card since this turns your phone to a card. One thing about this is it only accepts China Union as payment method to top up balance

China has HSR. But China also has the public transportation to connect to the HSR. So you can easily get to any transportation hub safely without a car at a reasonable price. That is not what you can say about many western countries especially the US. You simply don't want to ride in some of the US public transportation. A 26 miles trip to airport would take you 90 minutes to 2 hours on public transportation in the US. And the metro is filthy and unsafe. My only question is if you have large luggage can you check your luggage in or you have to go through the detector like all the luggage.

You don't need to bring a physical ticket when you take the train in China. All information has been embedded in the ID. At the railway stations, the regular gates are for Chinese citizens who have "Shenfen zheng"(personal ID cards), and the special gate is for foreigners who have to use their passports. They don't need to go through manual checks anymore(in most stations), just scan the passports. More convenient now. Foreigners had to go to the ticket office to redeem physical tickets before.

I really envy china's train infrastructure. This is the only solution to traffic. It also means people, especially young people, don't need to spend money to buy a car and pay for its maintenance. Where I live, we're hostage to cars and the pollution it causes. I mean, I love cars, I own a vintage Beetle, but I don't want to be surrounded by traffic and to need to drive to get anywhere. Thank you for showing china for what it is. The world needs more people like you who show that china is a normal country, where people can move around safely and freely. It's sad how most people in the west see china as a dark realm where they imagine people live like caged animals.

Chinese hsr stations too often are like airports, far from city centers, inducing road traffic with direct ramps to stations. Metro connections are plenty but often distant to city centers. Hsr stations being like airports seems to facilitate security theater in addition to huge crowd management.
