- Join me as I visit the WAIC Artificial Intelligence conference on the 6th July 2023 in Shanghai for a full tour of the two main halls.
The World Artificial Intelligence Conference, or WAIC, opened in Shanghai on Thursday 6th July at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition And Convention Center in Pudong with expected procurement deals of up to 10 billion yuan (US$1.38 billion), and global debuts of AI large models.
With the theme of "Intelligent Connectivity, Generating Future," WAIC 2023 returns to offline and face-to-face connections, after turning to online sessions due to the pandemic in recent years.
The highlights are from tech giants like Ant Group, Baidu, Huawei and Tencent. Overseas behemoths like Google and Tesla are also present.
WAIC will cover smart agriculture, smart city, metaverse, intelligent retail as well as culture and tourism applications.
Many procurement groups will conduct purchase deals with expected value exceeding 10 billion yuan (US$1.39 billion). The deals will cover 5G/6G, Internet of Things, robots, industrial drones, environment analysis and intelligent supply chain.
The rapid development of AI technology has made it an indispensable strategic technology for the new round of technological revolution and industrial change, profoundly changing the way of production and life and thinking patterns of human beings and achieving an overall leap in social productivity. The breakthrough of AI technology is being made day by day, and the future once thought to be distant is being driven towards us.
As one of the leading regions in the development of artificial intelligence in China, Shanghai should give full play to the “Wild Goose Queue Effect,” take AI as an important driving force to comprehensively promote the digital transformation of the city, make greater strides in building a smart economy, creating a smart life, and shaping smart governance. WAIC 2023 will keep playing the roles of “technology leader, application showcase, industry accelerator, and governance council”, establishing four core sections, including the conference and forum, display and exhibition, contest and award, and experience of applications, gathering top scientists, entrepreneurs, government officials, experts and scholars, international organizations, investors, start-up teams, and more, and building world-class cooperation and exchange platforms, showing China's wisdom and Shanghai's solutions to the world, so as to offer new opportunities to the rest of the world when China is undergoing robust development.

Thanks for the comment, yes, with the expo videos I do try to keep up the pace, but it can be difficult making the video short as the fairs here are usually massive.
Did you see the Unitree Go2 robot? I saw only the Go1 in the video. The Go2 supposedly can do some amazing acrobatics.
