- I travel on the only numbered double decker bus in Shanghai on Huaihai road to the Yu Gardens area and visit several of the old markets in the area. I highlight some of the interesting points of interest on the way like Wukang / Normandy Apartments, Soong Ching Lings house, several Consulates, and other highlights on Huaihai Road.
Shanghai has around 2000 formal bus lines (including city center, trolleybuses and suburban lines), served by more than 10 bus companies. In the past, Bashi, Dazhong, Guanzhong and Qiangsheng were the four largest; around 2009 they merged to become Bashi Group Companies, including Bashi No.1-6 Bus Passenger Service Companies, Bashi Tram, Bashi Xinxin and Chongming Company, Baoshan Company and Jinshan Company. Each Suburban district also renewed with one company serving each district. Around 2015, Bashi No.1 Passenger Service and Bashi Tram merged to be Bashi No.1 Company, Bashi No.2 Passenger Service became Bashi No.2 Company, Bashi No.3, No.4 Passenger Service merged to be Bashi No.3 Company, Bashi No.6 Passenger Service became Bashi No.4 Company, and Bashi No.5 Passenger Service and Baoshan Company became Bashi No.5 Company.

The double decker buses serving the No. 911 bus route are back on the road - they returned on February 13, nearly a month after the earlier model was retired.
The new double decker buses shuttle between Laoximen and Wukang Road, the same route as the old ones.
The route for the double decker buses is different from the other ordinary 911 public transport buses, which start from Laoximen and terminate at the junction of Hangnan and Hangdong roads in suburban Minhang District.
Bearing in mind safety concerns, the new double decker buses do not have an open top like the earlier models. But the stairs inside are wider and the huge glass windowpane provides a better view for passengers.
“The new bus is so much better than the old ones,” said Yang Jianlin who has been driving double decker buses for 20 years.
Yang said the old buses didn’t have a heating system. On rainy days, the upper deck of the bus would be flooded and water would leak on to the lower deck. And there is improvement that helps the drivers.
“In the past, I had to be extra careful when making a turn as there were blind spots that I couldn’t see from the rearview mirror,” said Yang. That problem is now solved. The new buses are equipped with two more rearview mirrors and an automobile data recorder to cover the blind spots.
Jiang Jinlei, a huge fan of double decker buses, was distraught when he heard that the service would be halted. But he rushed to Laoximen with his camera on Tuesday and was on hand to record the debut of the new buses.
“I boarded the bus in the morning and have shuffled in it three times,” said Jiang. “It is more spacious and safer inside, and more dashing looking from the outside.”
Many children, with their families, enjoyed a ride on the double decker buses on the first day. “I love sitting in the front row on the top deck, I can see everything,” said an excited Minmin, a 4-year-old who so enjoyed the ride that she wouldn’t get off the bus when her granny told her it was their stop.
Zhang Huaijian of Shanghai Ba-shi Co, the bus operator, said three double decker buses have been put into service. The company will put another seven on the streets after the Spring Festival break.
“Now the double decker buses depart about every 20 minutes,” said Zhang. “Hopefully we can reduce the gap to 15 minutes after more buses are put into service.”

911路 and 911路区间 are both double decker buses of the same type, you don't need to find another bus line, you may wait for the next one at the same stop simply. 区间车 means the bus is travelling only part of its normal route, not like @taehee51 said that “it terminates at an earlier stop”. Normally it starts from one bus terminal but not stops at another bus terminal, also it would be running among some continuous midway stops.
Nice passing through my beautiful conservatory! Some minor corrections: 4:36 the maternity hospital doesn't exist now, as the land and buildings have been given to Shanghai Conservatory of Music; and the building is for Western opera, not Peking opera, while also serving as a regular concert hall.

This line used to be called the "Double Decker Bus Line 1" and had around 30 double decker buses. However due to decrease in demand the number of double decker buses reduced to ~10 in 2008, but those double deckers from 2008 are open top and back then it goes all the way to 万科城市花园 on the west side of the city. Now though, due to health and safety concerns, after those 2008 double deckers acrapped, there are only a few closed top double deckers runs on a small portion of the line.

@@deepsharma1855 Hey there are other companies that runs the double decker buses along the bund, but the price would be ~30 yuan. This 911 double decker only has a very limited service (1~2 buses) in the daytime and there are no double decker buses at night. The only option for you now is probably go for the double decker routes from other companies. There's a station around the ferry port at the bund, near the junction of East Zhongshan Rd No.1 and Guangdong Rd(中山东一路广东路).

According to the place name translation standards formulated by the People's Republic of China, a place name would be translated in different ways on a common noun and a proper noun. The proper noun part is transliterated in Mandarin Pinyin while the common noun is translated in English. But, if there is only one Chinese character in the proper noun part, the common noun must be transliterated together, following an extra common noun translated in English. For example:
豫 (pronounced yǜ in Mandarin, the proper noun) 园 (pronounced yuán, means garden, common noun) would be translated to Yuyuan Garden.
古猗 (pronounced gǔ-yì in Mandarin, the proper noun) 园 would be translated to Guyi Garden, without an extra "yuan".
淮 (pronounced huái in Mandarin, the proper noun) 河 (pronounced hé, means river, common noun) would be translated to Huaihe River.
川杨 (pronounced chuān-yáng in Mandarin, the proper noun) 河 would be translated to Chuanyang River, without an extra "he".
Shanghai, as an international metropolis, the translation of some place names does not fully follow national standards, but translated into English as more as possible, such as Century Avenue, Century Park, Yu Garden, etc.
By the way, some of the metro station names in Shanghai may be similar or confusing to Europeans and Americans but not to Chinese, like Changping Road and Changqing Road, Changshou Road and Changshu Road, Hanzhong Road and Hangzhong Road, Yunshan Road and Yunshun Road, Jinxiu Road and Jinqiu Road.
