New Tesla Model 3 RWD | The Anti-EV Range Test & Review!
What if I hated EVs? How would I go about making a video to make them look bad?
I set out to replicate some of the misleading information that I regularly see about EVS...range and charging in particular.
But is the Tesla Model 3 RWD up for the challenge...or will it fail miserably?! It has a 57.5kWh usable battery for a real world range of around 400-450kms. It will do the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds. When you need to recharge...eventually...you will maintain an average of 108kW from 10-80%.
In normal circumstances this electric car is incredible...great range from an extremely efficient set-up, fast charging and hugely impressive tech.

Ive gotten 159kw as the max charging speed a few times. Even though the max is supposed to be 150kw, seems to have a bit of wiggle room on it. Also the software seems like the original one. The bings, bongs and warning sounds are so much quieter after a few updates, definitely not as annoying as when I first got in in April 24. Great and thorough review.
The RWD acceleration is software limited below 50km/h because of the discharge rate of the LFP battery - it's almost as quick from 50km/h to 120km/h as the RWD dual motor which is where you want the power for overtaking. The USA now only has the LR RWD (1 rear motor with the NMC battery pack from the AWD LR) and its 0-60mph time is 4.9sec (0-100km/h = 5.1sec)
Make sure to open a side door or lower a window before lowering the roof 🙂
40:30 - You could also have set the navigation to a charger. It would spend a lot of energy heating up and maintaining battery preconditioning temperature. A campingtrailer also takes a far higher toll on consumption than ICE cars. Other than that you did great! Good idea with the video. Enjoyed watching 🙂
Great video and great car but the only thing missing for me is a heated windscreen.
ur audio is off balance, copy and flip the channels to balance it out
It’s not what you drive it’s how you drive it. My Q4’s WLTP range is 329m. Over the 7 months and 7000m I’ve had it I’ve yet to see under 350m on a full charge….which is costing me less than £7.
Literally just ordered one on lease through CARPARISON. 24 months 8000 miles £2689 first payment then £298 per month. Feel like it's good value for what you get, not paying too much less at the moment on a Kia eniro which has been a great car the last 3 years. Tried getting a lease direct from my local VW dealer but nobody was free and didn't even bother to call me after I left my number, no wonder they're going under
Can't I derestrict my 2017 Chsrger 4 GT HS from 20 mph?? 28 MPH is the new slowest speed on most e bikes
Pick up mine Friday 8/11 can't wait, test drove the premium and that was quick, I think I'll be blown away by the performance version 😊
You look like you might be 6’2” tall. What size engine did you have in that van?
Cali is the best mini Camper and everyday car. 👍 Nice video
Stop all this talk of "effortless acceleration" and "smooth drive" you want to say how you miss the noise of the engine, the lag of the gears, the clutch pleasure and the spell of diesel fumes. 😂 oh and the pleasure of oil changes and filters etc
You caught me PJ!...how I miss it! Especially the left knee strain from 1,000s of gear changes. Those were the days!
Jjajajajajajajajajaj
Evening. Great video. Thank you. I've got one on order, hopefully here at the end of November. Slightly different spec (English variant), same motor and battery as your test vehicle, but with the larger wheels. Which.... although prettier, not as great with the efficiency. Question for you, when you carried out this trip, what setting did you have the re-gen in? Oh.....and I went with the matte grey 😎😎
I'm well jealous Lawrence...Great choice...although still dont get why Hyundai UK won't give out the aero wheels! I toggled the regen so many times. I like to keep it off when at high speeds, and then increase the regen in towns and sharp bends. Personal choice and I feel it gets me more efficiency.
I have aixam coupe s and I have same problem on faster roads as it's top speed is 30mph so it's bit slow .great car for city driving .great review.
That's one of the best reviews I've seen of this car, balanced and well made. I've saving for the deposit to buy next year. People say its not quick, but its 80's hot hatch quick enough and as a family car, its almost a no brainer if you're not bothered about an EV and is a no brainer when you are! Here's hoping the decent offers from Renault continue here in the UK
Thanks for that feedback Richard! Best of luck with the deposit and good offers!
Ami = 69€ (£57) per month with 0€ deposit here in France for a 36-months lease and 15,000km (9300 miles). That's a bargain
Some people use kW for engine power, living in the present ! You could add it.
I wonder, same trip with 5 people instead of just the driver, what the range would be?
It would certainly reduce the range like with any car...but the difference would be very small. Affects EVs much less than combustion thanks to regen especially in cities.
Great video Blake! Glad to see you got on well out west. Looking like the infrastructure has improved hugely in the last few years.
Yeah, massive difference! Would still be nervous in an old LEAF...but something like the iD.7 is no prob!
Yeah...try driving around a real country ...like Australia 😮😮😮
A 'real country'? Wow.
Yeah…I drive my Tesla around a real country…like the USA.
Thank You Everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤
OMG I now have FSD on my 27k dollar 2022 Model 3 long range. ITS FREAKING AMAZING the car drives it self. NO hands on wheel no braking no putting blinker on to make turns the car does everything. HOW can Tesla stock NOT go up when people realize that USED Tesla cars that are cheap CAN drive them self with a 100 dollar a month subscription?
Except thats a USA exclusive feature. In Europe it cant even detect electronic speed signs...
Tesla don’t have a great charging curve, 3 times 44kwh at 74% isn’t actually possible even in perfect conditions is it? Anyway we all know ICE drivers actually drive down with their windows down on the motorway, disappointed you didnt do that.
What? I didn't once drive with the window down.
Edited to say “didn’t do that” I was being sarcastic, I think you went beyond what a normal ICE driver would do.
Had one or a week. Quick. Smooth. Nimble and a tardis. Ordered one.
Good stuff! Hope you enjoy it!
This is the car we are getting in the new year ,great value for the price and LFP battery .
How much of the time did you let autopilot drive the car
the most boring EV abin to sit in.
It's hard to praise what you don't understand.
Too much information - "I really need to go to the toilet".
OK...just make sure you're charging while in the toilet. ABC!!!!
@@evplatform You need not share your bodily functions with us.
Does the M3H have v2h?
No.
You should do now a test where you charged at home and start with 100% charge. Do a more realistic scenario
Yeah, I see your point...but it would be a boring video. I summarise that exact scenario at the end of the video talking about how feasible and realistic that is.
Excellent work 😊
Merci buckets! It's a tough hobby...just wish I could earn a few quid from it!
I agree dont buy new, this car was about £50k upwards a few months ago now there selling new for £35k, second hand will be much cheaper. I dont like the fact that it’s git to that stage where we can just get in cars and go.
U can do down until 5% u make more km nd get faster charge.. nd u can use ABRP app is perfect for directing u for different charger is better like tesla maps chargers
Can u do test model 3 rwd long range the new model??
Excellent video....i live in Derry, those BP Pulse chargers are really expensive £0.87 klw...i own a hyundai Ioniq 38kw,brilliant car😊

@@EVMan298 👍
A true hater would be charging to 100% at slow chargers.
Lol, could also consider knocking on doors for a wall socket...and then daisy chain multiple extentions in the rain.
In a PHEV using Premium Petrol 😂
But Blake, I want to pack sandwiches and wear a nappy. 😂 Great review. I’m sold.
Great fair review Blake on this, really enjoyed it. I've one since 1st day available here and nearly 16k on it, with 122Wh/km in that time. Granted only on motorway speed for maybe 15% of that which helps but it's still extremely efficient
Great test, I've been looking forward to this. Crazy efficiency, I hate that it's just so undeniable 😂
It's astounding! The IONIQ6 does come close, but otherwise leaps ahead of the rest.
Love this. Brilliant and very creative way to review the new model 3 Blake. The naysayers and fudsters need to see this, there’s so much misinformation and negativity out there about electric vehicles and yet hardly anyone who owns one has hardly anything but positive opinions about ev’s. Drove from Clare to Belfast and back last week in my model 3 RWD and the journey was so easy and actually quite uneventful to be honest (what’s range anxiety) 👏👏
Spot on!...now it's Range Confidence!!!
Definitely a no brainer if you're in the market for a sub 40k car and have home charging. It can be bought for €37,400 atm. Nicer to drive than the Y but the book opening is restrictive and the boot itself is shallow (height wise) making it less versatile. Cracking car though.
27.5km in 1h08? That’s slow. I do about 35km in 1h20 on a regular pedelec.
Quality review as usual. Musk has burned alot of bridges at this point. When I see a Tesla I see Trump, Putin, MAGA. Oligarchy and fascism. The doesn't impact on the review obviously.
What do you see when you see an Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda? Criminals convicted for fraud and causing lung cancer due to emissions test fraud? What do you see when you see an MG, Volvo, Polestar? Uyghur rehabilitation camps? The CCP?
To put Musk in the same basket as Putin and Trump is just stupidity squared.
@@rsamd would you put Putin and Trump in the same basket? Interesting 🤔
I agree. Elon Musk has made the Tesla a toxic brand and I for one would not buy one
These people are sheep. Just like the sheep in animal farm. They live in a bubble, and consume mainstream propaganda. Of course they would have these beliefs. They can't research or critically think for themselves.
Why r so many people having trouble pronouncing peugeot...😂😂😂
It's just so much fun to wind people up!
@@evplatform fair play 😂😂
It is an ID4 after all.
The worst thing about EV charging on a day long trip is the car charges faster than I can take a bathroom break, buy and then consume food and drink.
Such a true statement. So many times I have discussions with ICE owners who just add up the charging times on a +800km trip and called it wasted time. Conveniently forgetting that they also stop for breaks during those many hours of driving.
Spot on David!
Love this car! Will pick up our white Ultra Rwd in December. Perfect Second Car that wifey will use 😊
Hahaha! That's no match for a gasoline powered vehicle that can be fully charged from empty with fuel in under 5 minutes. Can you EV do that? Can your superfast EV charger charge a BEV in from 5% to 100% in under 5 minutes? Nah I don't think so. That why I am continuing to purchase ICE vehicles or maybe I might consider a hybrid but no way a fully electric vehicle. I don't have the patience to wait thai long for a charge!
Ha ha. Most get a home charger or one at their work base. These charge overnight for 7p per kW. That's around 2p per mile. Then add the fact you can wake up every more ing with a full 'tank' which take 5 seconds to plug in. Compare that to just one fill up a week which including walking in, often lining up, paying and walking back is and average of 11 minutes = than 8 hours a year filling up at a gas station. Electric isn't right for everyone yet so you have a good point otherwise, but it's not that black and white. My diesel transit is going in 3 weeks, in comes a buzz.
