The Lone Moose
United States
Приєднався 25 тра 2020
I currently live in Texas at the base of the Texas Hill Country, and will be retiring to Alaska in 2-3 years, to the Kenai Peninsula. I will post videos on life in South Texas to include motorcycle rides, BBQing and Smoking meats Texas style, guns/shooting/reloading. I will also post videos from my trips to Alaska, the process of getting ready to retire and move to Alaska, fishing in Alaska, clearing land for the homestead, building the cabin, and everything that goes along with the transition. I may post some videos of political content, or commentaries on customer service; or the lack there of, that I encounter here in South Texas. I have spent 30+ years in various aspects of the medical field, in the military, civilian world, and with the Veterans Benefits Administration, and now as a contractor to the VA supporting a program to assist separating military service members going through the military medical discharge program. I love gardening and may post videos of the garden.
EG4 Chargeverter And My Power System
In this video I describe some of the electrical power challenges I've experienced here in Alaska over the last month, and how I was able to work through them. I also talk about the EG4 Chargeverter and how it was the key to the resolution of my problems.
Below are the links to where I found an EG4 Chargeverter online that will ship to Alaska:

Wrap Up for 2024 In Ninilchik Alaska
Переглядів 8921 день тому
I know it's been several months since I have posted anything, this video sort of explains what's been going on up here in Alaska, and with my world. It's been both an interesting and adventure filled fall/winter, as well as a very challenging one. I know this video is quite long, but please stick with it, I think you'll enjoy it, plus if you stay to the end you'll learn about the latest "challe...
2 Week Update On Progress At Sky Cabin 7 7 2024
Переглядів 1346 місяців тому
Hey folks, this is a longer video than usual, I'm stuffing 2 weeks of work at the Sky Cabin into 1 video, so please watch it all - there is a lot that has been going on. Yes, during the solar panels section, I got my words crossed up (call it a Senior Moment), with Amps and Volts. Hopefully y'all know what I meant! There will not be a video put out this coming weekend. I have to move out of the...

I'm finally getting started working on my container to house conversion. I started out making stairs for the door end of the container today, but as usual (in my life anyway) Murphy paid a visit. Stay tuned for Part 2 of this video later in the week, or next weekend. Background music in this video is from the UA-cam Audio Library Alaska Sky by Patrick Patrikios
Driving Trip #1 To Alaska Day 5 5 15 2024
Переглядів 1668 місяців тому
This video highlights my 5th day on the drive from south Texas to Alaska, via Canada. I started the day in Colesville, WA and crossed the border into Canada about 30 miles later. You can hear the exchange between the Canadian Border and Customs Officer and myself; however, I intentionally did not show him in the video, for his privacy. Of course the dogs had to know what was going on as well......

First Visit To My Property In Alaska May 2024
Переглядів 1198 місяців тому
It's finally happening!! The move to Alaska that is... The dogs (Ganga, Chloe, Cheech and Chong) accompanied me on the drive up here from Texas. We arrived Sunday May 19th. We stopped by the property shortly after getting in, just to see what things looked like after a winter of site work, pier installation and setting the Tin Can on stilts. I will continue to work on creating and uploading the...
ALASKA DRIVING TRIP #1 MAY 2024

The GREAT adventure of driving to Alaska for the first time has begun!! This video covers day 4 of the adventure with myself, 4 of my dogs (Cheech, Chong, Ganga, and Chloe) as we make our way north to The Great Land! We have run into some hiccups though, namely wild fires in Canada that are causing me to vary from the original plan due to road closures and hazards associated with the first. Unf...

Merry Christmas everyone. Time for another of my "Adventures In Cooking"! Experiment Does Buffing Leather Work
Переглядів 211Рік тому
In this video I experiment with buffing leather on the holsters I've made. The holsters have been coated with Super Sheen. I bought a cheap buffing kit at Harbor Freight today and decided if buffing the product increased the shine of the holsters or not. I try with just the buffing wheel, then with the buffing wheel and buffing compound. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. B...
How I Make And Adapt Holster Patterns
Переглядів 40Рік тому
This video gives you a little insight into how I make and adapt holsters, especially when I don't have the actual pistol to use in the process. I actually make a couple of "improvised" pistols with wood. Yes, a person can buy "Blue Guns" but those are very pricey when I don't have a fully operational leather shop. I hope y'all enjoy this. There will be more videos coming over the next couple of...

Glock 22 Holster Col Dan Holster
Переглядів 75Рік тому
This is the 2nd uploading of this video. The one I loaded last night didn't have any audio. Anyway, sorry about that!! I made a new holster for my retired USMC buddy LTC Dan for a new pistol he recently acquired: a Glock 22. He didn't have a holster for it, so I figured I'd make him out of some new leather I had acquired, water buffalo. It came out really nice, and Dan liked it, a lot. I'm sure...

Do you have to turn the lit the other way
Good morning Diana, and thanks for watching that video. Yes.. I was a typical dumb guy and didn't read the directions first...LOL! The lid definitely goes the other way.
It looks to me like the chargeverter is not cleaning the dirty power, but rather accepting the dirty power and charging the battery directly with d.c.
Good morning John and thanks for watching. Honestly, I don't know enough about it to know how it works, I'm no electrical engineer. In a lot of other videos I've watched about the device prior to getting one, it was always described as taking "dirty" power and cleaning it up so it could be used then used by the Charge Controller inverters or directly to the battery. I appreciate your comments, and over time it's something I'd like to learn more about.
Thanks!!
🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for watching!!
💪✨️👏
Thanks!
First of all - I love that sweater!! 😆 I'm so glad you finally got around to posting a video update! Alaska living is definitely not for the weak but despite that is clearly very rewarding. I appreciate the education you've shared in this video and glad you are staying optimistic and persevering through the ups and downs because as you mentioned "life is good"! Happy New Year to you and your fur babies!! 😊🎉
Thanks Michelle!!
Polar wire has them in Anchorage also
Thanks Rob!! For some strange and miraculous reason, Amazon actually delivered the ones I had ordered 2 weeks before their "expected" delivery date. I'm ordering a couple more sets of those so that I'll have them handy when it's time to put the new solar system into operation in the spring/summer.
Look for a marine shop for the bus bars.
I though about that, but didn't know where there might be one.
OMG Bill. I love the sweater.
Thanks Rob!! What you don't see at the bottom of the sweater, it says: "And My Dogs", then has 4 pup figures with their names... LOL!!
Happy New Year, Bill! Stay warm.
Happy New Year Penny!! It has been a really mild winter up here, so far. The dogs and I are staying warm and safe in the container, all is well.
Welcome back, I was starting to worry about you. I knew you were still alive and kicking, I saw your post to a guy about off grid property around Anchor Point. Very much enjoyed this video. I know, lots to do by yourself. At least you have good company. Take care, Happy New Year.
Thanks John!! Yep, it's definitely been overwhelming at times, but the dogs and I are doing very well. It'll get better from here on, and I'll get back into the swing of videos again.
Just got this holster for my tpr9c as well. Thanks for the recommendation!
My My problem is that the turn signal lamps have become loose and rotate with engine vibration. Help?
If you put the lid on correctly, it may work better!
Thanks Bryan! I finally figured that out... lol!! I'm old and a bit slow, but eventually I figure things out. Have a great day and thanks for watching!!
J ai acheté exactement le même kit. Moins de 40€. Tous compris. Fonctionne parfaitement
😂Bricoleur du dimanche. Le phare gauche est monté de travers. Le cercle métallique entre le phare et la coque est monté à l envers. N'importe quoi
So is the loading gate functional or not?
For me the casull and a 12 ga. Sorry buddy but the mask thing was nothing but bull shit.
You should really read the manual before you ever plug it in. Your lid is backwards for starters!
“Turning lights”?
454.Bad.Ass
If you have a mask, then you make it sounds like it will protect you so you shouldn’t be hurt when someone else doesn’t have a mask,
You speak respectfully ov the bears. It is their home. I hit the like button for that one.
You might want to mention a crimp on the casull especially for the revolvers.
Take no. 2 and no editing after 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
have you changed your BS about masks? since they have been proven to be irrelevant and that they lied to you about the masks and vax's.
Good protection no doubt, my guide swears by pumps and semi, he says though rare, if caught off guard shot placement is virtually impossible. The crazy guy said the first time he was extremely lucky with his 454. Now, he puts out a wall of lead , I'm guessing. Nice weapons. I've heard there some Brazilian co. that makes great shotguns....Bazialtec or something. Don't know if there relates to Rossi or Taurus
Good video. My family homesteaded there in the late 40's. I was born the same year as the Sterling Highway came through. It was a great place to grow up.
Thanks for watching!! I love it here!!
You need to put the left one level it’s driving me nuts looking at it crooked 😅😅
LOL!! Thanks Mark!! Yes, that was fixed shortly after the video was released. I appreciate your watching.
After watching I bought one .did a Boston butt and a brisket both came out great.
Things are moving along. Looking good. Work is progressing. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Tom !!!
With all that wind consider a wind generator also. Wind blows at night.
Thanks for watching Charles. Yes, the wind sure does blow at night too. I have thought about it, and may add that in at some future point. That would also require a hybrid charge controller/inverter system since wind generators produce A/C current, whereas solar produce D/C current. The other issue here is constructing a base. Frost heave is a major problem so I can't just build a slab on grade platform. If you see the piers that the container is on, the deepest one had to go down 27 feet to hit solid rock! Even though I wouldn't need piers that are rated at 90,000# each, like those holding up the container, it would still require some deep piers to then support a concrete base to attach the mast too. It's definitely something to consider on down the road a ways. Thanks for the suggestion!!
They do make small DC models in 12, 24 and 48 V about 1000W that tie into Solar systems.
You are making a lot of progress! I loved this video.
Thanks Penny!! I'm glad you liked it!! Progress is still slower than what I had hoped for, but what else is new... LOL!!!
Bill, All I can say is WOW. Lots of good progress. I had to laugh during the last video, seeing my old real estate agent's sign out by the highway. She was helping me look for a place when I was up there in September of 2019. Loved the pictures of Mt. Illiamna. Stay safe my friend.
Thanks John!! The only issue is that was Mt. Redoubt... LOL!!! Iliamna, yes it's visible from the property as well, is a bit farther to the south. I don't think I captured any of it in the photos... but then again, I've been known to be wrong... at least once a day... LOL!!
That's quite a bit of progress Bill for just 2 weeks - looks really nice! I can tell your dogs are loving life in Alaska so far - I really enjoyed their random cameos throughout this video 😊 I'm looking forward to your next update video already!
Thanks Michelle!!
I am jealous that you have Grass. lol. We have very little of it.
Thanks Rob!! Are y'all still coming down to Kasilof later in the month? Did you get in touch with Sean yet?
@@thelonemoose4718 Yes we are. Driving Down Monday the 22 early in the day. I did talk to Sean and he is Game. Just need to figure a day.
@@curmudgeinnak Cool deal, just let me know!
I just ordered the verticals one for when I’m on my Harley also in Texas 🤙
Cool deal!! Thanks for watching!!
Can still order 80 volt Kobalt Chainsaw through LOWES online. I'm even looking at the Oregon 20" bar and chain for my KOBALT 80 volt chainsaw. I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. I’m 79 and love NO more having to pull a cord to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021. it is still being sold on the Lowes website as of 5/26/2024 - I use them on our Southeast LA farm of 18 acres of tall large pine trees that were devastated by a Hurricane and tornado. On 10 acres of the property, nearly all the trees are down or dead. My chainsaws have been working great and cutting huge logs and trees and logs up to 20"+ and it works great. I also use the 80-volt 10” Pole saw, lawnmower, and Leaf Blower.
Great comments Gene!! Thanks for watching! Yes, I have purchased the batteries online via Lowes, and still use my 80 volt chainsaw for everything other than small brushy trees.
Looking good. Progress is progress.
Yes sir John!! Thanks!!
Hey Moose; You got Wind! Perhaps you should look into "Wind Generators". Maybe you have already, just a thought. Mind you, I know nothing about electricity/solar/etc, I am a welder/carpenter. Keep the dream goin' Brother Moose...
Things are lookin' up my friend. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Tom!! It's slow going, but it's getting there... but winter is also fast approaching... lol
There have been 2 bears in defense taken with 9 mm but i don't recommend it
I agree completely Scott! Thanks for watching
Such a waste throwing it away. Should be able to keep it and reuse it to monitor vitals
Thanks for watching!! I agree with you completely... but in the "disposable" society we live in nowadays, everything is stacked against reusability, especially of medically related equipment. It's all a huge scam to create profits for the companies who make, sell, and use these types of devices!! Corporate greed at work!!! and of course the FDA, which by the way is regulated by these entities (under the table that is), does the bidding of the corporations by creating regulations to prohibit reuse. Heck, for all I know, they probably also prohibit recycling of the electronics portions of the devices. What a waste...
Nice doggies they seem to like slobbering on your beard though. Lol. Have a good one !
Thanks!! They are very special babies for sure!!
really informative video, thanks. stay blessed.
Thanks for watching!!
Bill, like they say...one step at a time. Progress is progress. Are you still staying at a lodge? Its not in Ninilchik is it? Anyway slow and steady wins the race. Take care.
Good morning John!! Yes, I'm still staying at the lodge, and it's in Kenai, so it's a 45 minute drive each way down to Ninilchik. Slow and steady is me anymore... no more high speed low drag... just low drag...lol!!
Lookin' good Bill. Things are shaping up. 😊
Thanks Tom!! Slow but sure!!
Good to see you finally made it up. Excited to see the progress. I drove by your place a year ago; sure looks different today. Thanks for sharing! 😊
Hey Allie!! How's it going?? Yep, I'm up here now...until Labor Day weekend, when I fly back to TX to get another load of my "stuff", my 4Runner, and the remaining dogs. Then I drive back up here again, and will be here for the long haul at that point. Yep, I had folks doing work on the property over the fall and winter, and they did amazing work. Now the Sky Cabin is about 4' up in the air, thus the new name... lol!! I'm still staying in Kenai until the middle of next month at which time I have to move in to the container, ready or not. Over the new 2-3 years I'll be building expansion on it so that it will end up around 1400 sq. ft. when completed. You drove by huh??? You should have stopped and painted "Allie was here" on the walls... LOL!!! That would have been priceless! Take care young lady!!
BUMMER! Part 2 will go smooth. Gitter' done Moose, you got this!
Yep, Thanks Robert!! If there were no challenges then this would be a boring project, and that's no fun!! LOL!!!
Enjoying the videos....
Thanks John!! I'm trying to get on a more regular schedule and share the wonders of this Alaska adventure with y'all.
