That place looks absolutely amazing!!! Seriously, I wish I could've met this lady to design my place. It definitely makes a forever home. You definitely need some chickens, they don't require much. I can't wait to watch this home be built.
Why thank you very much!! If you ever decide to build another one, or renovate the one you have - look her up. She is amazing!!! I hope to get started next summer. 94 year old dad issues just won't let me come up this year. 😪 What part of Alaska are you in?
Wow Bill, that looks great. I know you can't wait to get started. The only thing I would be concerned about is snow on the deck and steps. The back step area will get buried when that snow comes off the roof. I know it won't be used much in the winter, but the main deck and steps are another story. Shoveling snow is for young folks, not us old guys. Just something I thought of. They got lots of snow up there this winter. And you are right, the higher you go the better the view. Stay safe my friend.
Thanks John!!! I've given that some thought about the decks, especially the rear deck that I will at some point connect to the shipping container. I'm thinking of covering that part some way. If I were to store pellet stove pellets in the container, I'd have to replenish the stock in the arctic entry every so often. If that walkway is not kept clear, then you are right... huge problem... and thanks for pointing out the shoveling snow is not for us "old guys"... LOL!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I definitely resemble that thought!! There are tons of possibilities. My main goal in developing the plan that far was to realistically get something down on paper. Shaun did a heck of a job helping me get my thoughts and ideas together. I "thought" I had it all worked out in my head. Uhhh... NO!! lol. Plus, this will be a work in progress for 2 or 3 years after the house is livable, so some things will change. Stay safe John!!
Thanks Sean!!! Huge??? it's just over 1000 sq. ft. lol!! Considering I'm stepping down from 3500 sq. ft. to 1000, it will seem tiny... lol!! It's all a matter of perspective.
Hey Moose... The plans are beautiful !!! Her plans were orientated for future wheelchair access. I am a bit older than you and my concern (for you) is the tub... Think about it, it is the most dangerous place in your house. You know the alternatives. I enjoy your adventure and how you present it in your videos. LOL,, I have lived on a beach in Florida my entire life, but Alaska looks really cool. I can't live in the cold. SO, I'll just watch you and go along for the ride...
Howdy Robert!! Thanks for the comments! I have thought about the tub situation... which is why there is a 4' walk-in shower on the main level. If worse comes to worse, I can always move down to the main level. Plus, I could always change the tub out to a geriatric walk-in tub. I appreciate your watching, and for sticking with me through this past trying year!! I'll be back in the swing of things pretty quickly. Once the house is finished, and if you're able to travel, you can come up and visit during the summer sometime. :-) Bill
Love it! Very nice! I hope you get this built soon as it may take a bit to schedule and build. But boy will it be worth it! Definitely better that the original container cabin although that would have been nice too! Definitely a perfect forever home! 😉
I can't believe you don't want a loft with a ship's ladder. LOL. From talking with several people who have had pipe freezing issues, a common theme was water pipes in exterior walls. You should consider adapting the layout so that your pipes are in interior walls. And, of course, the lesson to be learned from my short drainage pipe freeze is that you need to be sure you get the "crawl space" skirted and insulated. (I didn't get mine done because it snowed massive amounts in late October before I could get it done. 15 inches in two snowfalls a week apart.)
Very nice!
Thanks Kathy!! I appreciate the kind words!!
I did go watch her video...your plans are very nice..I know you are anxious to get started.
Thanks Gerrie!! She does great work. Unfortunately my house building has had to be placed on hold due to 95 year old dad issues. Maybe next year...

Wow Bill! This place is going to be huge! Love the design!

Thanks Allie!! Life circumstances will determine when I can start on it, and finish it. I can't wait!!!!
Looking awesome!!!!
