Hey there! This is Justin. I invite you to join me on my journey as I learn how and attempt to breed Western Hognose Snakes and feature them in cute/hopefully informative videos.
Occasionally I will feature reptiles other than my Westerns but the channel focus is on them.
Warnings: I baby talk my snakes…. I talk about and show the good times as well as the bad times. It’s a channel about snakes so there will be many times that feeding is shown.

The runt took his first Pinkie part today, and it was unscented, which makes it a great success for his first go around with it.
Cinder Enjoying the Outdoors & Talking about her Short Future

Uncut Western Hognose Snake Video with Cinder the Sable. I'm taking her out more often so that I won't have any future regrets when her time comes. It could happen today, tomorrow, or years down the line, but I do know it's sooner than I want it to be.
Feeding the Runt + Alys's Babies (A Western Hognose Snake Video)

The Runt is putting on some size, but still not enough for even pinky heads. Meanwhile, Alys's 5 babies are doing great so far. 2 of them definitely have her "no fear" approach to life.

Cinder laid yet another infertile egg today, and it has me concerned about her future. This is technically her 4th clutch laid since December 25th of 2023.

So, already, the babies are taking after their mother. Alys is, to date, the only snake to have escaped her bin. Now, one of her small babies has succeeded in doing the same, but under more extreme conditions.

I Think I'll have to say Goodbye Soon
She is unbearably cute… She has such sweet eyes!!!
what sort of enrichment would you recommend for a lil hog?
For like a baby? Definitely nothing outside for anything under 100 grams since they can get into the minutiae of the grass which makes it very difficult to retrieve or even see them. As babies you can add decorations to their tubs/enclosures, take them out and handle them for a bit, give them light chin/cheek rubs if they'll allow it, or set up an area that they'd have difficulty escaping and decorate it with a lot of unique things they can explore. I know that these days you can buy reptile play pens that are enclosed on all sides including the top. I've been debating getting one myself so that I can bring the babies out into the snake room without fear that they'll find a hole in the wall that I might have overlooked.
Poor baby
Hey what do you scent with ??
@ninakunzmannfotografie7334 The most successful scent so far has been Sardines stored in water, but I've also used Tilapia, Salmon, and Vienna Sausage. You can feed the Tilapia directly to start a baby off, but I recommend against doing that long term with Sardines since they contain an enzyme that breaks down vitamin B-1.
@@Justin.HeterodonHome thank you so much for that quick response!! Greetings from Germany
I think it's called The Scream or The Screamer 🤷🏻♀️🤔
This is very good to see! He’s a very good looking hog and I can totally see the face on his head stamp 👍Awesome job Justin.
What a good boy eating without scenting! So proud of him.
Completely unexpected. I thought for sure I'd have to dip it in sardine juice first.
Noodle: i am big scary cober fear me! *hiss and headbutt* Human: d'awwwwwww lookit that faaaaceee!!! 🥰 Noodle: This is not the intended effect, hooman... 😂
@ambrelleweir6423 I love it even more when they try the forest cobra multi hissing, and it just sounds adorable.
@Justin.HeterodonHome I have a little hoggie my son named Salazar Slyhisserin because he does the little cober hood and will act all big and bad. Then I pick him up, and he's got the curious tongue flicks again. He's never bitten, only headbutts, and I think it's absolutely hilarious and adorable. I am absolutely in love with their drama. It makes my day every time.
This is so funny 😂❤
She is such a long girl. Such a baby
When my MBK was just 4 months old he almost got out through an almost non-existent gap in the lid. Happened to walk by when he was half way out. Fixed the gap.
Have you tried little bits of egg for the runt? He might like it 🤷🏻♀️
I tried but he wouldn't go for it. Seems he's strictly a fish dude.
I agree they get too nervous and stressed out too easy for it😊
What a cutie
hoggies are so stubborn in the food department, my lad did not like tilapia, salmon, tuna juice or boiled egg, he only showed motivation towards quail eggs ONCE (and my finger, again only once idk what that was about pff) he demands straight to the mouth delivery and that is it, he shows no motivation to eat himself if its not already in his mouth (apart the one time with the egg/my FiNgErr). I have tried just about everything apart from frog/frog scent cause I can't get a hold of frogs here in the UK 😕
So you have to assist feed? Or just put it in his mouth with tongs or whatever?
I would love to get one of them. Are there any available?
Not yet, but soon. Some of the babies are up to 5 unscented meals. Just 5 more and I'll start doing videos to get them ready for new homes.
@@Justin.HeterodonHome could I reserve one??
It’s amazing how they can get through a breather hole in a tub or the side of the lid! I had a baby sand boa do that and I didn’t find her for 2 days,so glad you found this one quickly 👍
Probably would never have noticed if I wasn't checking on these 5 every 12 hours. The thought of a dried out baby behind my walls gives me nightmares.
@@Justin.HeterodonHome I know right 😳 I really thought I’d lost mine too and would never find her again but thank god I did 😌
Cinder, stop laying eggs goddammit.
Cinder is so precious 😍 ❤
She's a good girl. I get hissed at every now and then, but she's pretty interactive otherwise.
@@Justin.HeterodonHome yeah, I can tell she is & even though she loves you! ❤️
She's beautiful 🥰
6:44 I mean males you can feed every 10-14 days. Big Cheese is a good company
@Upper_echelon_exotics I don't want to slander anyone, but Big Cheeze, while I like the look of their mice, were covered in external parasites. It's what initially triggered my vet into investigating for other parasites, which is how we discovered the Coccidia. Now, I have no idea if their mice gave my snakes Coccidia, but they were covered in mouse hair mites, which makes me question the internal quality as well. I want to like them, they have the best looking mice after Layne Labs, but the "ick" factor and personal experience is keeping me away. Even Rodent Pro, who have dirty looking mice on the outside, have never triggered a mass fecal test with positive results across the board.
I'd feel bad for my boys if they didn't get fed at the same rate as the ladies, lol. Several of them are giant beggars when it comes time to feed.
If you don't already... Listen to Colubrid and Colubroid Radio
@@Upper_echelon_exotics I think I've listened before a while back. I'll have to reconnect.
I think the hognose market is pretty good actually...so I think you will be fine
You still don't have any for sale yet do you?😊 Also if you don't tear her up she may still continue to lay slugs which is harder on him than if they were bred
None for sale yet. Some are close to ready, with 6 unscented feedings, but I'd like them to have the full 10+ before I put them up for grabs.
@@Justin.HeterodonHome ok
Actually Jeff Galewood has said it's easier on them to lay slugs. Now for garter snakes I heard that is true
@@Upper_echelon_exotics not sure I just heard it was true for every snake species
I love your snakes so very much! They are so very sweet 😊 ❤
Your babies are so adorable 😍 💕
She is so precious 😍 💖
Cinder likes a cuddle.
Awwww sweetheart 🥹 Claudia likes to fall asleep on my chest and I love just sitting there with her 🥰
@Upper_echelon_exotics Alys was the one girl I had left who would curl up and sleep on me. Cinder sort of just rests a moment. As for the boys, Chaz is the best cuddler.
She looks so cute looking up at you like that
I agree 😊
He's a cutie.
I must boop the noodle
She's so cute, I just love her 💕 😍
😂 you little shit! I'm so glad he's found safe and sound.
Are you keeping all of them😊
The 5 from Alys I'm definitely keeping, at least for a few years. All the others will be finding homes in the not too distant future though.
@@Justin.HeterodonHome will you be posting a video of who and what you're selling when they're available?
Yup. I plan on giving each baby their own video when they're ready to go.
I laughed at the "you little shit!" Glad you found him/her!
If it's a girl....I recommend Houdina 😅
Where did you get the clear drawers?
$5 at Target. I saw them in the bath & shower section one day and wondered if they'd fit. Really snug, but I think I can adjust the shelves a bit and still have room for the normal bins. Only downside is the need to drill your own holes.
4:00 lol 😂 silly hoggie. Just sitting there chilling. " if I don't move he won't see me."
Houdini says nose go in hole. It does look like it might have JUST been able to squeeze it's head through the front hole if determined enough.
Lol, like you said you little shit lol I'm glad he's ok 😊❤
Lol, that kinda just slipped out. Usually I remind myself not to say it on video.
@Justin.HeterodonHome no, it's okay. I laughed, 🙂 I'm so glad that you found him, though
Huh, I've never had my rosy boa complain about any new smell I've had. (Some smells make her more inclined to nibble on me, but I attribute that to curiosity and hunger, not agitation).
Thank god you found the baby
lol the viciously dramatic hognose lol they either die or try too eat you lol
Definitely didn’t approve of the new soap.
Infinite Blessings, what a precious interaction with you and your pet snake.
Aww, so cute. Babies love an egg treat.
A hungry twin. Absorbed much yolk then hungers for food too.
So adorable
I love cute cinnamon rolls.
