As in encompassing all pets? I would say, no. Even as a first reptile or snake, I would still say no. However, I started with them, and I don't regret my decision at all. They are wonderful animals that "can" acclimate to their owners very well. Sometimes, that can take a while, a year usually in my experience, but some of them are born without a fear of humans or tame down very quickly. The key is to build little threads of trust over time so that they see you as just part of the environment rather than a threat. On the flip side, if you traumatize them, then it is unlikely they will ever see you as anything other than a threat. An example of a traumatized hognose would be my girl Lady. It was entirely my fault, but she wasn't originally an angry/fearful little snake.
