How to Install ½" Head Studs in a Dart LS Next Engine Block
Damn what size turbos is spools real fast
They're Comp 7880s
Is this the edelbrock rolling thunder cam?
Makes me wish I had taken machinist course in trade school instead of electronics.
That would be a great street engine for a 1st gen Camaro..
You guys should do a video on how you build it
What did your friend end up getting for this engine?
Great video, I've always wandered how they do it. Thanks
Put a bull horn on the exhaust pipe! Force of air is lifting ur car up! Causing it to lose contact on the surface of the track!
How long does it take to immerse the cylinder sleeve in liquid nitrogen?
Do you know how cold you're going ? as you are able to go colder than cast iron is really ok with using nitrogen
Not exactly. There's not a lot of press on the fit so the amount that it shrinks/chills should not get to the point of damaging the cast sleeve.
What was done to this motor? I’m fixing to rebuild mine and that sounds about what I’m looking for.
I'm currently building my 390 with the Edelbrock top end kit. If mine makes these kinds of numbers I'm going to be very happy!
Jeeeeeeeesus how many rpms was that
Not sure but would say around 8000 depending on where he had the rev limiter set.
arduous process worth the gold 💯
Good golly that is a contraption
That, car's gonna fly!
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing your trip to the track. Great starting line footage. That car has a ton of power! Not enough money to get me to drive something like that. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing some more runs.
I was under the impression you could already order the Dart Pro with 1/2" studs...
You can but it takes a little longer to get the block than if we get one off the shelf and do the machine work ourselves.
I hope my machinist does this good balancing my rotating assembly.
I'd love to see a 400 build that focused on "off idle" torque and HP with a 5000 RPM red line. Basically a stock 400 blue print with a zero Deck, street pistons, heads, 9.0:1 compression (cheap gas) RV Cam, Q-Jet and iron exhaust manifolds. I saw a Ford video (400M ) making 375 HP and 450+ lb ft of Torque idle to 4500 RPM. Tow a mountain, have enough power to pass and get better fuel mileage towing a camper.
question . About 3 cylinder say a 1 liter ford ecoboost . Is there a way to balance those engine assembled ? Because if each part are balanced seperatly engine run unbalanced
I assume the same process would apply, shouldn’t it? Start with a crank weigh each piston n rod. Make bob weights, n start spinning….
I'd be selling that engine too. Retard that cam 8°.
Back cut on the exhaust valve??? 😬
No way this made 700hp with Hydraulic roller cam and only 11.5:1 compression.
Whats it spin to?
Camp specs and compression
Do you only work on LS engines?
No we work on other engines as well, just your ford dodge and Chevy v8 engines.
could you break out what components you guys put in this engine? thank you!!
Id really like to see some test on cheap home grown 393w builds. Just well prepped stock 5.969" rods with floated wrist pins, cheap Keith Black pistons, off the shelf intake!
Just dyno’d my sort of budget 393. Made 615
That would be awsome and real world
@justinschmidt9180 we ran a 351w with Speedpro premium cast pistons with the big valve reliefs for 2 years shooting 150 on it! Sold it to a guy who street raced it!
Cam specs and compression would have been nice information to see?
It's 10.25:1 on compression and the cam is a comp cams XR288HR-10 236/242 .520/.540 110lsa.
@@pageracingengines, Thank You!
That is A way to hone cylinders not THE ONLY CORRECT WAY. If you want perfect, use induction heaters in all the bores first to heat things, remove the one your honing and see how much taper and out of round you get when things are at room temperature. (with torque plate in place) Your actually better to have top 1/4~1/3 at least 0.001" tight if you've never done 'correct' hot honing and are not set up for it. Current 'hot honing' is better but still not great in my opinion Looked about 73 /10,000" to me? Why don't you true the stones and how did they get so tapered in the first place? (blame the apprentice 😁) BTW, if you check the diagonals where studs are pulling there will be even more distortion than normal X-Y when you take torque plate off, even with a block as stout as that one. In the 80's, very few manufacturers gave surface roughness specifications plus vast majority of shops had never even heard of it
Yolls way works without any engine dimensions to go off of. I used to do it that way and it worked fine most times. Once i started swappin heads and movin head bolt holes i learned to locate with blueprints. Locate hole drill hole 1 in #8 the same, then i adjust the table on the Y (left-right) as facing machine, to the last bottom bolt hole in #2 using the indicator on the table, say like 18.025, and i drill the hole as if there was not a hole to begin with. Ive found cast blocks of all qualities off by substantial amounts. Once i changed to locating off of dimensions, my heads fit better with studs being actually square to the deck. Head gaskets dont seem to fight as much on dissasembly either. Typically most builds have a larger level of tolerance to allow machining abnormalities without much negative consequences. Thanks for sharin. I never seen an ls 1/2 conversion
Great video 🙂👍
Why does everyone say 390 when listed on Ford sites it's a 391? Same with the 361,352, 334 too
391 was a medium duty engine for trucks, same family but a few differences. The distributor is a different size for example.
Torque curve is incredible!! Flat as a pancake and really carries Im impressed using the small head Yrs back I wanted to do a ca legal 400 TPI build for my then 89 Vette . I caught so much flack hearing "gee a 180 head is too small"..proof here it works. Planned on a 213@050 HR on a 112, and heavily port afterarket TPI pieces myself Was hoping for 350hp 500 lbs torque and truly pass smog.
Holy moly! I wonder what machine is used to balance those big jumbo crankshafts for those ones.
Just might make enough power to pull the hat off top of your head
Nice street, strip 302!
The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎👎💩💩💩😬
Do you never do the outer bolt holes with 1/2" studs? So all 6 bolts per cylinder are 1/2" studded? Also.....How did you use the drill bit to spin the tap in under power, can;t that risk stripping the hole fast? I saw it wasnt totally tight and it was slipping while spinning, is that the key, so it kind of grabs a little at a time and slowly takes little bites as it taps into the hole?
There's just not enough material in the outer holes to drill them out to 1/2". Yes power tapping can strip a hole quickly if not done correctly. A chuck typically cannot hold the tap well enough to keep it from spinning which is the biggest key to power tapping. It's very similar to how tap holders work for cnc machines.
OK, cool, thanks for the info.@@pageracingengines
Where are you guys located? I have a 64 Galaxie and looking for someone to build my 390 for me.
Were in Roebuck SC.
Hi did I miss the specs for this motor ?? [sound recording needs to be alot clearer ] cam head manifold compression header size ???? Carb CFM 780--850 for a street 400+ cuin ,,,,, 950 = 7000pm 400+cuin
Nice! So would you also radius/chamfer the top edge of the cylinder bore as well? And would you radius the outer edge of the combustion chamber in the head as well? I was wondering if you have the two radius‘ed edges meet like that, if it had a little radius at both mating surfaces could that cause issue with increasing the probability of detonation with essentially a tiny “pocket” at the edge where they meet the head gasket?
The sheer power of these cars is breathtaking. I can only imagine what it's like for the Drivers.
Not bad for Chinesium Heads.
I was there that’s really cool!
LOVE FORD FE ENGINE
id love to finish my engine wheres a parts list for this build im missing a few parts id like to have similar power
Nice package there and getting it done!
