For boost applications what main and rod bearing clearances are shooting for vs a NA engine? Thanks for the content!

A lot of it will depend on the journal diameter of the crank and how much boost we’re planning on running. Typically we will loosen the clearance up a little on boosted applications. For this engine we’re at .0033-.0035 on the mains if it was just NA we would be more around .0025-.0028. Rods were about the same either way for a typical steel rod.

@@pageracingengines As a follow up question do these clearances differ by engine. Say smallblock chevy vs BBC, or Chrysler 440 vs smallblock Ford, etc.. Or is it all based on NA or boost?

@@steves759 Yes different engines will have different clearances. The biggest reason is due to the crank journal diameters being different. As a rule of thumb you can use .001 of clearance per 1 inch of journal diameter. Boosted engines will be about .0005 or more looser than the rule of thumb but there are many factors that determine how loose we go on race engines.

On rod bolt stretch I see you started at 90ft lbs and 1 bolt was not within specs do you torque the bolts at 2 different values 90 & 95 or torque both 95?

Both bolts are torqued the same amount, so both bolts are at 95.

Shouldn’t you have gapped your rings before you did your Bob weight measurements and balanced your crank?

We have done it both ways and measured the rings before and after gapping them and there is not enough material removal to affect the bob weights.

Any hope on that dyno room

We're getting close, exhaust ducting just shipped and that's the main thing we have left to finish up.
