It doesnt look like smyth sewn binding from the way it doesnt remain open.

All modern bibles are interpitations, they're not translations.

I was wondering if you could fit it in a back Jean pocket?

I would prefer a black letter over red. For me it’s easier to highlight and underline and journal when there is not red letter. I would also enjoy a wide margin version. Being they sell the book block it’s easy to just do a rebind and get a better cover and liner.

The hardcover ESV Reader's Bible is my normal reading bible. I have the edition with the red highlights. I really love the format. I find that the hardcover does not hold up well over time. The cover (the way I handle it) will eventually start to tear loose from the text block. I'm on my second, and that one is kind of beat up at this point. Held together by tape. I contemplate a rebind, but also wonder if that's a good use of what it would cost to do. (The Trutone version is available now. Not quite the same. I could do without the gilt edge.)

This is my everyday bible. So easy to understand. This is one that everybody should have.

I remember back in the 80s deciding that even though I wasn’t much of a book reader to start seriously reading the Bible. I came from a KJB only church and family, so I dragged one out that someone had given me and read a few chapters and thought I needed to find a Bible that reads more like the way I read and talk. I remember going into a tiny used bookstore in my hometown and asking the old guy that ran the place if he sold Bibles. He pointed where some were and in a little stack of old books I found a little Living Bible. I paid like 5 bucks for it. I read it every chance I got, starting at Genesis. Over the next couple of months I read until I had finished it from beginning to end. Years later I moved on to a NKJV to a ESV to a Holman Christian Bible. Now I read a nice Goatskin covered Christian Standard Bible, but I never will forget the special time I spent reading a 5$ little paper covered Living Bible.

I remember someone having that Bible or the original one back in the 70s, at my church, I’ll figure it out, thanks for the great in depth review!

Gosh, they sure did a good job making it look like the old originals. Might be homely, but it's a legendary look.

I'm really interested in trying out the Berean Standard Bible for two reasons: 1. Pronouns pertaining to God are capitalized. 2. Its readability similar to the NIV 1984 Edition Bible. New here. Liked & Subscribed. Question: What does the "S" in your channel icon/logo stands for?

Have the KJV sovereign now trying to resist picking up a NKJ as well. Totally agree about the red on red accents. Have you noticed if NKJ red is darker at all? Seems to be the case with Thomas Nelson that the NKJ is a liiiittle darker sometimes. Thank you!!!

I love the ESV as a translation. I also really like the ESV Reader's Bible, though it's not my favorite single volume reader's Bible. My main issues with the ESV Reader's Bible are: 1. Paper is too thin. I suppose that can't be helped in a single volume reader's Bible. But there is some bleed through where you can kind of see the text on the other side come through. It's not a big deal, but it is slightly annoying. 2. The text is all black. That might be fine for some people, but in my case I have one of the original or first run ESV Reader's Bible (2011 text edition). My ESV Reader's Bible has color in it (e.g. red accents for the headings). Today all the ESV Reader's Bibles are in black text as best as I can tell; Crossway got rid of the red accents. I think that's unfortunate because I love having a little bit of color in the text. (By the way, I'm not referring to red letter; I personally dislike red letter for Jesus' words.) 3. Chapter numbers. As Mark Ward points out: chapter numbers in a reader's Bible is like climbing Mt. Everest and almost reaching the peak, but then deciding that it was good enough to stop just shy of the peak. It'd be better not to have chapter numbers in the text. There may be exceptions (e.g. I think it's appropriate to number the Psalms because the Psalms aren't chapters in a book but each Psalm is an individual unit). But by and large a reader's Bible should primarily focus on the reading experience, as if it were a novel or something along those lines, and the reading experience would be improved if it didn't have chapter numbers. 4. Chapter divisions. A reader's Bible doesn't need to have chapter divisions. It could use, for example, the natural literary divisions that are in the biblical text instead. For example, instead of a break between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, a reader's Bible could have a break where Genesis 2:4 would be ("These are the generations of the heavens and the earth...") since as scholars have noted Genesis is roughly divided into these literary divisions or units with each division or unit beginning with the phrase "These are the generations...". A reader's Bible should have this kind of freedom.

Not a fan of the translation nor of Crossway, nevertheless as a Bible collector I gotta admit they make the BEST non-premium budget Bibles. This edition in particular offers an excellent reading experience (even for a leather snob).

I love the original NLT Filament Bible because I prefer single column and the original is single column unlike the newer NLT Filament Bibles. But either way, the NLT Filament Bible is a great deal, very affordable, and reads clearly and naturally! A very helpful Bible.

I ended buying the zondervan study bible off ebay in like new condition. I was going tl buy the one your revieewing but left comments on this asking which is best. They said zondervan niv stody bible had better study materials and more indepth and the one i bought was bonded leather and 3.00 cheaper lol

As someone who owns many Bibles expensive and inexpensive these Sovereign Collection Bibles are some of the best deals you can get for the money and quality. I can name many Bibles that cost 3 to 4 times as much as these that are not as nice in terms of quality and features. Both of these can be purchased for around $25 to $30 bucks. Great video and review.

I have a flip-back edition of the Bible does NASB have a flip-back edition of the Bible. It's pocket size but, has larger print.

Nice Bible, but the font is too small. Can you please review a Bible suitable for a women’s prison ministry? We used to get great deals on Bibles with suitable fonts, but there doesn’t seem to be deals like there were pre-Covid. Thank you!

Even though I prefer the majority text, this has quickly shot up into my top 5 translations! I'd like to see this layout in a words of Christ in blue edition, similar to what Humble Lamb and Thomas Nelson are doing.

Great review man. I have the merlot colorway and overall feel and construction is nice, but I agree that it would have been nice to see at least a vinyl liner at the price point

I got one several months ago just like the one you’re showing. The best thing about this bible is the text layout and line spacing. Very easy to read and follow (not getting lost on which line you are on). One of the best text block layouts in my opinion.

Aw, this brings back memories. I still have my NIV Study from the late 80s. The only reason I changed to the ESV was that my new church used the ESV and it was easier to follow along. Otherwise, I'd still be using it. I was just looking through it today. It's amazing how small the print looks to me now. Even though it mostly lives in its case, if there was a fire, I'd grab that one over my new ESV. It has so many personal notes from when I first got saved and was learning to read the Bible. It would be interesting to do a side by side comparison to see what revisions they did. We are so blessed to have all these options.

I love the chunky format of that personal size. Alas, even the regular size was hard on my eyes. I found the large print on sale a while back and was overjoyed! It's definitely not the type of Bible you'd carry with you. (Unless you want a hernia or back problems.) But I have a compact Bible for that. This one lives on my kitchen table and I adore it! I've barely scratched the surface of all its features/study helps. We are so blessed to have these options!

I have one without the references on the middle. The font and the spacing between the lines are very nice.

At 6:00 the word you're looking for is "old"; if you're old (that is, about my age) those tiny cross-references just look like smudges on the page. But that's not Holman's fault. Nice review.
