I Watched Every Perfect Game of the 21st Century, Here are the Best Parts
Here's my Twitter that I use whenever I feel like it: x.com/ABrandNewBallG
The Perfect Game. It's arguably the most well-known and coveted achievement a pitcher can accomplish in Major League Baseball. Just 24 pitchers in MLB history have thrown a perfect game, with 8 of them happening in the 21st century. There are times in history when the Perfect Game drought lasts 3 decades and times when it lasts just a couple months. What makes a Perfect Game so enthralling is that it can be done by any pitcher across any start in the league, and yet it is still an unfathomably rare accomplishment. There are so many variables involved and a pitcher can't exactly "try" and get a Perfect Game, it just happens. In this video, I watch all 8 Perfect Games from the 21st century and analyze the moments I found to be the most interesting!

The Rookie of the Year Has an Anti-Pitcher Problem
Переглядів 15 тис.2 місяці тому
Here's my Twitter that I use sometimes: x.com/ABrandNewBallG Major League Baseball and its Rookie of the Year Award have an anti-pitcher problem. In this video, I argue that pitchers, whether they're starters or relievers, are constantly at a disadvantage when compared to position players. This is based on recent award winners of the RotY as well as the historical tendencies of award voters. Bu...
The MLB Playoffs and The Burden of Being the Best
Переглядів 7 тис.3 місяці тому
Major League Baseball has always had an intriguing relationship with the postseason. In a sport where games are played almost every single day for 7 months, the playoffs can end a team's season in as little as 2 games. It may just be one of the most unpredictable postseasons in sports and upsets can very easily happen when a team gets hot. So, with an unpredictable playoff, what does that mean ...

Let's see Paul Allen's Twitter account: x.com/ABrandNewBallG - The Official Baseball Rules. One would say it's the code of conduct for Major League Baseball. Of course, as a lifelong fan, I have not read the entire rulebook. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I doubt many of you have either. However, it's time for that to change today. I've watched baseball for as long as I can remember, so I always ...
The Rise of the Platoon Hitter
Переглядів 41 тис.5 місяців тому
Follow my Twitter for the occasional time I tweet something: x.com/ABrandNewBallG In Major League Baseball, teams are always trying to gain an advantage in every way possible. Even the smallest decisions can go a long way to help win a baseball game. One of the most significant ways that teams can make those "small" decisions is by platooning certain hitters in their lineup. Of course, a typica...
A Tale of the Best and Worst Base Running
Переглядів 3,9 тис.7 місяців тому
Here's my Twitter that I use on occasion: ABrandNewBallG Base Running. It's an art of baseball that can often be overlooked. Is it just about stealing bases? Well, no. In MLB there is so much more to the skill of base running than that. Such as deciding to take an extra base on your own hit, advancing extra bases on your teammate's hits, breaking up double plays, and much more. Base...

2024 MLB Awards Predictions - Side Quests

Here's my Twitter for the world's most thought-provoking tweets: ABrandNewBallG This is a new video part of my new series called "Side Quests." This video is a shorter, non-narrative-driven focus on a simpler baseball topic than my long-form videos. These videos will be around 10-15 minutes long and feature much less editing than I usually do. It's something new I thought I'd try to...

Check out my Twitter for occasional Tweets probably: ABrandNewBallG Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is one of the most used stats in the Baseball world today when evaluating players. The Bizarre World of Former Switch Hitting

Check out my Twitter for occasional Tweets probably: ABrandNewBallG Switch hitting is just another of the countless things that makes baseball so unique. 3:33 anyone else notice the casual 56 MPH at the top of the screen?
subscribed because of Metroid Prime music
Kershaw would of had one if Rojas was playing ss instead of Hanley. Hanley refused to play anywhere other ss even though he was bad there and Rojas who can only play d was at 3rd
I’ve been watching baseball since around 1992 and every year I see things that I have never seen before. So many different things can and do happen. Like I didn’t know that if a defensive player makes the first or second out and he goes out of play then any base runner advances a base. I still don’t really understand why that is
you music taste is peak 👌
metroid prime theme in a baseball vid, love it
how could you not mention the “call your sons call your daughters” call???
The Mario kart music behind halladays perfect game had woke me up. I thought I was dreaming. Video game music behind them but low enough you don’t notice without really listening was a nice slick touch
Koufax had the best perfecto when you consider that he pitched against 3 future Hall of Famers on the Cubs.
I’m a lefty who taught myself to hit right handed as a kid (there were woods on that side of the yard and I kept losing my ball), and now it feels so much more natural that way that I can’t go back. I also golf righty, but for completely unrelated reasons. My mom read something Phil Mickelson apparently said that switching sides like that as a lefty gave you a great natural swing path, and right handed clubs were a lot easier to find lol
Burenia music from Metroid Dread for Cain’s perfect game was fun to notice.
Hey man weird question- my wife thinks the sound you use in the background of this video is very relaxing. What is it called? Great job on the video!
Appreciate it! All the background music I use is from various video game soundtracks, it's all listed in the description labeled by the chapter it appears under and the order it appeared within that chapter. (Ex: 3.3 would be the Buehrle chapter of the video and the third song that played in that chapter).
@ it was Super Mario Galaxy 2, thanks man! Keep up the great work, need more ball content especially in the offseason.
Where is Galarraga?
Dallas Braden’s perfect game is always gonna be the most special to me. Easily the best story behind a perfect game ever
Great video! One thing I would say is in Braden’s perfect game, while catching that foul ball was a great defensive play, I don’t think it was the most pivotal because if he doesn’t get too it, it would just be a foul ball and the perfect game is still intact.
Thank you and good point, I think I was influenced too much by the uniqueness of that play only being something that can happen in the Coliseum. I’d likely change it to the first inning play if I were to redo it.
But if it did just drop for a foul ball, what if Carlos Pena managed to get a hit on a later pitch in that at bat? I honestly still think it was pivotal just for that reason.
Hurts to watch as a Rays fan lol, but I still have mad respect for the teams that threw perfect games.
My favorite thing about the Felix’s perfecto is Dave Sims call entering the bottom of the 8th and when the game ends. “He is 3 outs away from immortality” and “the Seattle Mariner’s Felix Hernadez the 2-2. He got em, 34 years, 119 games, it’s finally happened. A perfect game by a Seattle Mariner, it was done by the king.” As well as Tom Wilhelmsen talks about how Felix’s hat was cool, no sweat. My ace, my franchise pitcher, my hall of famer.
One thing I have always wanted to know was how the pitchers hit during perfect games
Great video! God I miss baseball
Randy Johnson tipped his pitches for his whole career, batters knew if it was fastball or slider. Yet the greatest Left hander of all time.
Sandy Koufax?
Missed opportunity for a joke about the cardinals and cardinal direction
Wow is that final fantasy 7 music at the end?
This is another great video. Super interesting and I'd not something I'd ever really think about.
I appreciate you checking it out! It’s one of my favorite videos I’ve made but didn’t really reach a wide audience.
This was a really great video. I also don't think Felix had a Hall Of Fame career, but he did make The Mariners Hall Of Fame already. So that's cool. It's also funny that Dallas Braden and David Wells have both said they were hungover during their Perfect Games and, given everything that followed for Domingo Germán, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he was hungover as well. Pitchers should probably just pitch hungover more often.
Incredible research done props. I loved this thanks for sharing
Randy Johnson was 40 years old at the time
59:32 ... Ahem. *statement not valid in Michigan due to gubernatorial decree stating that as far as the State of Michigan is concerned, it IS an official perfect game*
Thank you for including Armando Gallaraga! It means quite a bit to Tigers fans like myself :) *thumbs-up*
I agree that the early defensive plays feel a lot more important. Realistically, not many fielders are going to go all-out on a play in the first few innings. Makes it feel a lot more impactful. This was a great video 👍
The one time we give Matt Cain run support he throws a perfect game
That was fun to watch. Great video!
Great video
Honorable mention: Armando Gallaraga 2010
at the end of the video dude
The dugouts getting cleared happened in the infamous Padres-Braves "brawl game" of 1984. That was due to all the fighting rather than objecting to an umpire call, but both benches were sent to the clubhouse in the 9th inning and only the upcoming hitters were allowed in.
One reason for leaving batting out of order up to an appeal is that if the improper batter makes an out anyway, the opposing team will probably let it go. Sort of like declining a penalty in football.
Liked video immediately because of the Mario Galaxy music @0:01
Armando Galarraga not being in this video is so sad 😔
He was at the end
Same for rich hill
Max Scherzer will cry in the corner.
It really is ❤
Watch to the end
Awesome Video, I know it's much more common but even break downs of no hitters would be really cool to see like this!
Thank you, I’ll keep it in mind!
Amazing video
Thank you!
Love the videos
Not the metroid prime music 😂😂😂 great video
I'm really liking this so far, just a small note for the future: you should turn the volume up a bit on the game audio. Let the crowd carry the Dewayne Wise bit.
So glad I stumbled upon this channel. Keep up the great content.
I think even now more men have orbited the moon than pitched an MLB perfect game!
Apollo 13 might just have saved your butt here... it's close.
@@roygoodhand1301 Didn't they go around at least once? That counts.
Great video man your channel is too underrated
That means a ton, thank you!
I’m an A’s fan, and I felt so humiliated after German threw the perfect game. It felt worse that people were saying “it’s the A’s so the perfect game doesn’t count” lol
It was kind of a weird one because a lot of neutral fans were very underwhelmed with it, especially after such a long Perfect Game drought. I will say, I think people were saying it didn’t count more so to discredit Germán, not hate on the A’s (although it still kinda is hating on the A’s)
The Wise catch still gets me a lil choked up ngl
It might be one of my favorite moments in baseball history, I knew I had to let it play out with Harrelson’s call cause I wasn’t gonna do it justice myself
Given how bad the Yankees were playing in 2023, I only came in to my dad watching the game around the 4th and saw they were winning. My dad told me that Domingo was perfect so far, and I didn't think much of it. Still, I decided to sit in and watch the rest of the game, staying up late to see what happened. I couldn't believe I saw it. In a season full of heartbreak that was something exciting.
Domingo german had a perfect game?
32:30 love the music choice here lol
Just got on my dinner in Italy, perfect vid to watch with
