One minute in and I am SO happy I’ve finally found a video covering this. I’m a huge fan of stats and have ALWAYS wanted an explanation for how players can have the same WAR despite one having seemingly mediocre stats and the other having great numbers across the board.
As we got deeper into the breakdown of Lopez's '21 season, the more I thought to myself, "that sounds quiet a lot like last year for HSK." SURE ENOUGH lol. As soon as you said you were gonna talk about a recent example, I was 100% certain I knew who it would be on. I'm sure it gets said regularly but your content is INCREDIBLE, and it's only a matter of time before your channel blows up. Can't wait to see what the future of this channel brings. As always, great video. P.S., I will never argue against you talking about Padres players. In fact, I think you should talk about them more. No reason, totally not biased lol
Really enjoyed watching this video. Gonna go back and check the past ones. Best of luck getting this channel to bigger and better heights in the future!
I’m a Mets fan and I really appreciate what Lindor’s done for us, he’s clearly the MVP of our team. With that said I doubt he’s a top 10 player as fWAR would suggest the past 2 years. I think he probably clears top 20 but to say he’s knocking on the door on the likes of Ohtani, Acuña, Betts, Freeman, and Judge is absurd. There’s clearly a talent gap there. I think fWAR might just account too much for defense. At the major league level the range between good and bad defense isn’t nearly as wide as good offense and bad offense. Most games defense will not flip the outcome.
To expand on this point as u did the reason someone like yadi Molina doesn't have high is that the intangibles he brings to a team (leadership, fear among base runners and decreasing era among pitchers) that will make him a hofer are not quantifiable under war
@@nickkaufmann6554 That's definitely something I feel I would bring up if I were to redo that section of the video as I was likely focusing too much on my own perspective of WAR. Beyond the fact that WAR will never be able to perfectly quantify production on the field, there are also those intangibles it will never be able to quantify and I think that's relevant and something I let slip by.

The best type of WAR is the one which best supports my argument
0:01 according to my sources, this is indeed Nicky Lopez. I don’t know how he got this information.
I’m simply like that
20:50 I hear that lord Gwynn music 🫡🙌🏽
This whole channel is elite, glad i found it
I appreciate it!

Thank you, I’m very thankful for the continued support!
“Sometimes a commonly debated metric” good to see that Yogi Berra has been reincarnated
As a braves fan I was very sad to see nicky go, at the very least hes a great utility guy. Hope he thrives on his new team.
Amazing video ! I made a video about one of my favorite players Mike Brooseau and we need more content for these kind of players!
Bold claim in the title. I'd love to see your explanation, and that's why I clicked on the video.
bro is at his 1 of 2 hometown teams now (he grew up in the city i go to school in)
We love Nicky Lopez

Nicky Lopez is awesome, happy to see him at home in Chicago where he'll actually get some playing time in big 2024.
I remember picking him up in fantasy in the 2nd half, he was on fire and helped raise my batting average and stolen bases
As a Royals fan trust me we know that Nicky Lopez was screwed out of the Gold Glove at SS that year.
He is expected to start the season at starting 2B for the white Sox right
I believe so with the White Sox signing Paul DeJong to play short after they didn’t resign Tim Anderson
what microphone do you use for recording?
It’s an old Blue Yeti microphone that I got a long time ago I think. I’d like to get a new one but it’s what I’m working with at the moment.
I'm a Royals fan he had crazy babip luck that year
One of the best defenders of our generation
To answer ur question from the beginning war is not a perfect statistic and anomalies exist where they shouldnt

Absolutely nothing, uhh
