TUTORIAL - Stained Glass Poinsettia
Enjoy this stained glass poinsettia tutorial. I would classify this tutorial as beginner, there is nothing too complicated going on with this pattern.
If you'd like to make this piece yourself, I have the pattern available for purchase as a hobby license or as a commercial license. With a commercial license you can sell and profit off the finished pieces. If you just want to make the piece for yourself, or as a gift, I offer a cheaper hobby license:

I understand how you do the back and front frames, but can you show how you do the center frame>
Can you give an indepth tutorial on how you have your Photoshop setup? I'm struggling to use this program
I love your work!
I'm always wondering wether there's a cheap alternative for making the lines golden instead of silver, I always love what it looks like with the foil a lot but I'm guessing whatever the silver metal that connects the glass is is probably the cheapest and easiest to work with temperature wise
@@v.s.4470 there aren't any other metals that you can solder with. However, you can apply copper patina (it's just a finicky chemical though, and it will oxidize)
@SamanthaAshleyGlass thanks for the explanation, now it makes sense I never saw a golden version
Wow AMAZING 🎉❤🎉
You said you used your cricut to cut the pattern pieces and included a link. But the link goes to a $3,600 laser machine. What is the cricut you're referring to that does this job without costing so much? Thank you!
@@susanhamley7273 hi! So the link in the description is for the laser machine I used to engrave the glass leaves. Here's a link to the Cricut machine I have (I have the Cricut maker 3, but there are cheaper Cricut options that will get the job done). cricut.com/en-us/cutting-machines/cricut-maker/cricut-maker-3/cricut-maker-3/2008334.html
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass Thanks, Samantha!
The last one 😍😍😍
how do you make the solder so shiny?
@@K.M.ArtStudio I wash with Dawn then cj's flux remover. The solder is pretty shiny after that, then I just wax with clarity finishing compound.
@SamanthaAshleyGlass thank u 🖤
What type of solder do you use? Is it 60/40?
Beautiful work! ❤
@@tiffsofunny6760 I used eagle 60/40
I've been watching your videos for a few days now, and have been trying to visualize a landscape piece. Beautifully done very helpful.
You cutting on piece #20 stressed me out so much. I'm really impressed and hope my skill level gets up to yours one day! I also wish I could afford a Cricut to cut out my patterns. I think that's where a lot of my trouble lies with getting my patterns to line us correctly. 😢
@@incendi4ry I hear you, I was literally sweating cutting some of these pieces. 🤣 I wish everyone could have a Cricut, it's made a world of difference with accuracy.
This may be a dumb question but how do you print the pattern on a printer and make sure it prints to the same size your cricut will cut. I’m having issues with that.
@@erincalamusso3881 that's a great question. I design my patterns in Photoshop, and for a piece that fits on 8.5x11 paper, I make sure that's the size of my working canvas in Photoshop. For example, this Poppy piece is 8"w x 8.6"h, and is formatted for 8.5"x11" paper. Then when I import the file into the Cricut app, if the size/resolution is too large, I just resize it to 8"w x 8.6"h. If you're having trouble, you can also have your Cricut machine draw the pattern (instead of using a printer)
I like this vid. However, would have liked to see u soldering the hangers since its a nice little work detail... 👍
Beautiful color choices
Love the piece that you are working on in this video Do sell or share pattern? 1/27/25
Woah the last one looks like an universe
Isn't it cool?! That's dichroic glass.
I LOVE this glass sooooo much i just want everything in my flat to be made from it... duvet, sofa, curtains, carpets 😂😂😂❤
Hola! Me podrias decir donde comprar los materiales. Gracias 😊
Painting with light 🥰😍
So it appears that you solder the top of the glass on 410 then turn your iron down to 360 to do the edges??
correct
Gorgeous
I can't be the only one who thought she ment poppy from Dandys world 😂
Fantastic result! Thank you!
How long does the tip last?
@@VincCachipiruli I don't know exactly, but it'll last for many many years. I've had the same tip for 5 years
What temperature do you set your iron?
@@veronicaacevedo2189 I answer that at 1:39 🙂
This is so beautiful!!! 😍😍
You get your hands on the most exquisite glass. ❤
@@incendi4ry it's hard for me to pass up the good stuff! 🙂
When you use the pearl-type cardstock, do you use an adhesive to stick the pieces to glass before cutting, or do you just trace them onto the glass? I'm imagining the vinyl covered pieces, once stuck, and cut out, may help with the sliced up fingers in the process lol
@@darlenegeary6305 for the cardstock patterns, I just use it as a tracing guide. The sticky patterns though really add to the accuracy of cutting and grinding.
What temperature do use set your iron on for this material? Thank you
I keep it at 410c, just don't linger too long.
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass Thank you.
That was a very good demonstration.
Bellissimo 😍
OMG this has been my struggle. This tutorial was so helpful!
It really is a struggle until it just starts working out! I'm glad you found this helpful.
Sooo pretty
this is so beautiful wow
What was the first grinder you showed?
@@zoop504 you might be referring to the ringsaw - it's a Gemini Taurus 3
Did you change the solder tip size for the wire on the gills?
@@erincalamusso3881 no, I'm using the same tip the whole time. I held it sideways when doing the wire, so the tip looks smaller
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass ahhhh! Gotcha!! I believe you said to use RU-01 came, that is flat bottomed, that is ok for round projects?
how do you get it so shiny
How stunning is this absolutely great vid so informative best one yet i hope you sell your patterns to on etsy we about to buy one of these in 3 months im watching vids and trying to learn as much as i can
Just curious, how do you get your patterns?
@@asekhamhekenneth2248 I design them. I sell some of them on Etsy samanthaashleyglass.etsy.com
What iron do you use and on what setting? You’re soldering is perfection!
After applying patina you do not clean it again… just rinse with water or pay off the excess patina?
@@crystalann7956 hi! Here's where experimentation comes into play. You'll find many many different processes. In this video, I just rinsed the excess with water. You can wash it again with soap and water if you'd like, but I don't find it necessary. What I have started doing though since I made this video is cleaning off the patina with Kwik clean patina cleaner instead of rinsing in water - that's another option.
how do you get the solder gets attached to the iron?
🎉⭐️This is an outstanding video! I love the close ups and explanation of the flow. Well done as always😉
Are you going to show it put together?
@@SherrilWoods-jm6ir I just posted the finished piece on Instagram and Facebook
I would love to learn how to do stained glass! I have all of my mom’s tools to do it but by the time she moved in with me from another state she was too blind to teach me!
@@SherrilWoods-jm6ir oh I'm sorry to hear that - I hope there's a nearby glass you can take
Thank you so very much for doing this video!!! this is exactly what I was looking for🎉😊
Wow! This video came at the perfect time for a piece I am about to begin. I can't begin to tell you how much I've enjoyed your videos. (I looked at a few others as well.). I like like your super low-key approach, your lack of an annoyingly cute and silly introduction, and skillful techniques. I am now a new subscriber and follower on some of your other platforms. Thanks so much! Two questions if I may: When you're first tinning the edges, it appears you're using a flux paste. Later when doing the bead work it looks like you're using a liquid flux. Is this correct, and if so, why? Also, how did you attach the hanging points? Is that somehow incorporated in the beading process or did I miss a video in your library?
@@quoththeraven. Hi! Thank you, I really appreciate the compliment. (I'm more on the introverted side, so I tend to avoid over the top videos where I have to show my face 😂) To answer your questions. I used gel flux for the entire piece. It doesn't matter if you use liquid/gel/paste flux. For this piece, it's small so I just used circle jump rings. I fluxed the ring, and the solder joint on the back of the suncatcher, then soldered the ring into the seam.
Very helpful viseo, thank you. I have this problem, my inner solder lines will be thicker than my edge beading... I thought naturally the inner lines have double the thickness of the tape from the two neighbouring pieces. But your lines are all so even in thickness... How do I achieve this?
@@leelahhahahahaha so sometimes I'll use different foil thickness. For most of the inner pieces, I used 3/16" foil, and for the outer edges, I used 7/32
This is beautiful! Can I ask where you got the metal hoop from or what it is made of? Thanks!
@@elisafernandez2314 thanks! That's bendable 1/8" zinc came. I believe I got it from"anything in stained glass"
@SamanthaAshleyGlass thank you so much! I just discovered that store a few months ago and love them so much.
Ohhhh, I am not using a flux remover....that is my problem. THANKS!
If you drill a hole through the cylinder and stick the one end of the wire into it to start, you wont have to hold the one end and youll be able to wrap tighter from the gate
