Watching how you lay out your pieces so compactly and execute your cuts was especially helpful - thank you! This is something I'm still working on, not wanting to waste glass yet wanting to ensure I get a clean cut.
Exactly! There's a fine line between being compact enough to not waste so much glass, and being too compact where you don't get clean cuts. I could have placed some of the blue background pieces closer together, but I wanted to try and maintain a consistent texture flow while allowing room to execute those deep curves.

I'm not entirely sure. It's an old sheet that I had. The Iridescent coating reminds me of old spectrum glass. I do know that bullseye makes an iridescent prismatic reed - the iridescence is just more subtle.
How do you create the template and just print it out? Do you use Adobe Illustrator? Because your way of cutting glass is very clean. I bought all the materials to due this, but because it's new it takes awhile for me to get to do it. Lol I'm scared.

Hi Samantha! I just bought one of these little cut-off saws and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. I've heard that the blade that comes with these saws isn't the best for metal. But yours seems to be working great--did you purchase a different blade to go with it? Thanks as always for your help :)
No, I'm using the blade that came with it. You just have to take it slow when cutting the metal. If you pull it down hard, the machine seizes up, you need to lower it slowly, let it cut a little, lift it up, and repeat. Hope that makes sense.

Hi. In your rainbow tutorial you shared that you use your iron usually at 410 degrees “Celsius “. Which I converted to Fahrenheit and is 770 degrees with 60/40 solder. Is this correct? I appreciate your time! Thank you
Do you put your texture glass with the texture facing front or back. And why? Also..what was the name of the pliers with the narrow tip? What was the blue patina you mentioned? TIA
I always put my textures facing front because I feel like you can see the texture better, and I personally like the look better that way. To find those pliers, I just searched for "narrow tip grozer." I got mine from Amazon, but I believe Delphi has some too.
If I may add on, the super blue is made by Birchwood Casey. You’ll find it in sporting goods stores/sections, in the gun section. It’s used on firearms as a colorant.
That 1/4 grinder bit is used on a different grinder, right? Can you tell what brand it is? I used to have a small platform on my 'Kristall 1S' for smaller bits but I find that quite annoying to use, tbh 😅
I tend to err on the side of caution and just aim for hitting any part of the marker line, sometimes I get nice and close to the inside, and sometimes I don't - it's still a skill I'm working on perfecting. Especially when I'm cutting a piece of glass that I know doesn't like to break well, I'd rather be a little cautious.
Hi Samantha thanks for the video. What cardstock do you use please? It looks really pliable. Is it coated? Is it available on amazon? I'm hoping to use cricut soon. Would the pdf patterns I already bought from you work or would they need teaking?
Hi! If you haven't checked out my cricut video yet, it may answer some of your questions. I use pearlescent cardstock cause it comes off the cutting mat pretty easily (you can find it on amazon - it's on my Amazon storefront). You should be able to upload any of my patterns, because I've created all of my patterns with the same line thickness, you'll just need to resize the image in the cricut app to the correct size of the actual pattern.

I actually got it from Harbor Freight. I did put one in my "Tools for Stained Glass" list on Amazon. It looks the same as the one I have, but if you have a Harbor Freight near you, the one from them is a little cheaper.
I do love that grid you work on, good for getting those pesky tiny shard down and out of the way. I would have gone with a half-inch zinc border though, but that's just my taste. Anyway, I just got a studio again! Whoo hoo, so I can get back to my stained glass. I was cringing though when you steel wooled that piece. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo LOL Sure if you're extremely carful, but you'r going to put a haze on the glass you you hit it. Also cotton balls work best for patina. Don't know if you can even get carnuba or Butchers wax, you might try those.
Yeah, the size of the came for such a small panel is definitely a personal preference, since it doesn't need much for structural stability. Half inch would have been way too big for my taste. As far as steel wool goes, I'm going to have to disagree with you there, I've been using super fine steel wool for many many years, it does not put a haze on the glass. Cotton balls may work best for you, but there is more than one way to do it. Clarity finishing compound is carnauba wax with polishing agents. I do have solid carnauba wax, but clarity is always my go to. I hope you enjoy getting back into your stained glass studio!

I only mention the steel wool, because while you are good at this, someone may not know to use supper fine and end up scratching their piece. Also depending on the actual glass, some are softer than others and more easily scratched. Yes, I've been doing traditional stained glass and repair for over 20 years. I had to move and for 2 years I've had nowhere to work. Ugh. But I do now. Yea!

Also no worries, there are some people who truly believe there's only one right way to do everything, and they can be quite vocal about it. I've experimented with so many different methods/supplies/tools, and they all give pretty similar results in my experience. Oh wow, you must be antsy to get back at it! I first learned this craft in 2001, but I was only 13, so I only worked on projects sporadically at my grandpa's house, until I was able to set up a home studio.

idk why this was on my raccomended because ive never watched a stained glass video in my life but watching u cut the glass like that was mesmerizing

Yes, that would be 770°f, that's the temp I solder at when using a 3mm tip, if I use the larger 5mm tip, I like to turn the heat down a little

So the grinder bit is from techniglass, but I leave it set up on my glastar all star grinder.

Samantha, in a past video you scored the glass inside the marker lines. Any reason you didn’t do that here?

I got a random brand (kent blades) on Amazon. If you go to Delphi's online shop, they have studio pro and top choice brands of narrow pliers
