In short SVG knifed stones brothers I. The back he retired after he signed with Tehno. Merc weren’t allowed to compete. Their engine program was not the stretch. They are supercars for special dispensation as well as help to bring their panels up hence why the field drop rule was introduced in the supercars which worked out to be a complete failure as did not have the straight line they needed for many other straits, end up pulling the pin and leaving the sport

What you said about the car being officially called an Erebus I think that's the way the series should go Have a few different body's you can choose from And you can call it what you want. Like the 888 or the red bull or whatever

That's because it's not really a Mercedes. It hasn't even got official factory backing. And Supercars are a one-make series anyway, with a control chassis and carbon fibre panels designed to look like the road cars when it has absolutely nothing in common with road cars. V8 Supercars died a long time ago. I liked the Australian Touring Car Championship, when manufacturers modify their existing road cars to race, rather than creating bespoke body panels to fit around a control chassis. As far as I'm concerned, Supercars died when they went to a control chassis. I haven't watched a race since and never will. Supercars suck. Bring back the old Australian Touring Car Championship, with the old rules.

Used to watch V8 Supercars so much when I was a kid. The good old Holden Vs Ford as well as Nissan, Mercedes and Volvo joining in. Doesn’t feel the same anymore watching V8 Supercars now that it’s just Chevys and Mustangs

The "Golden era" in Australian racing was the 80's after all the sooking by ford and mostly holden it became a 2 make race and was very biased towards holden. And as the sooks they are they hobbled Mercedes and Nissan because they were afraid of being beaten again the whole series is a fucking joke and a disgrace the rules book should just be a single sentence! You can race what you want as long as it does not beat either holden or ford and ford cannot win more than 30% of the time because holden are massive sooks!

Improved production racing is much more interesting to watch. IPRA. even some one make series like the hyundai's and the nissan pulsars are more interesting.

Its a 100% obvious that merc amg would approve it nontheless... People fail to understand that mercedes IS something pretty "basic" or... "work class" brand in germany. U tell them "oh but your brand is premium, you cant race here with the rest of the blue collar people" and they just say "well we are not giving them the S class, we give them our work class vehicles, the C, the E... thats cheap"

You brushed over the 6.2 Lt merc, big factor why amg didn't want to help, all their efforts were going into the 5.5 lt, this is a stroker crank, very much different, amg viewed this as going backward. Got this from erebus first hand at pukekohe, no doubt points to not enough prior planning.

I mean WRC is not a joke, F1 has of course way higher speeds but it is on a good road and good visibility and no obstacles, when you see WRC racing from the cockpit on some narrow gravel road in a forest between trees... you may piss your pants even just as a spectator as seems like a crash can be imminent any second. Of course they have notes etc. otherwise it would be impossible to do for any driver, to react to all the twists and turns but it is a mad sport, sadly now seems to be in decline a bit

I actually love the idea Nissan (or Ben Bowly, specifically) made front engine FWD race car. However, it seemed the design is too areodynamic-oriented. They forgot the durability and placement of hybrid system, which they thought can "just copycat" to existing hybrid car in 2015, even with new design. If I were in their position, I'd bring 2.0 L V4 turbo engine from super GT in front and bring hybrid technology with brake and engine recovery system, not from turbo or flywheel, but the heat from the engine block itself. Hope they back to the WEC near future.

Like them or loathe them GT3 racing will be remembered as a golden era of racing in years to come

This was an actually interesting era, I always hoped to see more variety, like a Kia Stinger when they "allowed" for turbo V6s to enter

Supercars should adopt the mustang gt3 and corvette gt3r. That way they can keep the gm v ford thing and have far better cars to race with. Probably also make the sport cheaper

The HP limit applied to everyone to promote equal driver racing . Or if u had unlimited it becomes a wallet racing class . This sends most car racing series broke . . Promoting turbo cars against N/A Naturally aspirated was never going to work in the early days .

I totally get why they wanted to preserve the Holden vs ford mentality, but it was such a short sighted decision with the obvious demise of Aussie car manufacturing right on the horizon. V8 Supercars would probably be a much more exciting space today with a bit more diversity on the grid

I always thought it was kind of a shame that Volvo, Nissan, and Mercedes didn't last too long in modern V8 Supercars - coming from a NASCAR and Indycar background, we're always begging for new makes and engine manufacturers to join our sports, and it's a shame only two companies found true success in Supercars

Ok, as much as this car sucked, I'll admi5 that I love it lmao. It's such a cool looking car to me, and it has a goddamn V8.

The V8 saloon and coupe is a dying breed. If they want to get all the manufacturer support back they'll have to ditch the V8s which I don't think is going to happen. Manufacturers are only incentivized to make hybrid/electric compacts and SUVs nowadays.

I'm from Argentina, it's funny how being so far away each country we have the same issue, here the most popular series is Turismo Carretera, until last year we used national production cars and very popular like Ford Falcon (not the australian Falcon), Chevy, Dodge GTX and IKA Torino, there are all 70's cars but this year started a new generation cars like Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Toyota Camry and a new Torino that even doesn't exist and it was only created for the series, most of the people want popular sports car and not this new cars that you barely see on the streets

From a European, the end of the Ford vs Holden era is a huge shame. All across the motor racing world the fierce rivalry, the El Clasico from Down Under, was regarded fondly. Something beautiful was destroyed. By the way we all know Ford were better here 😊
