Possibly unpopular opinion - that Cordoba wrc combines all the best elements of the Impreza, Evo and the Sierra Cosworth - it looks absolutely glorious
No I see what you mean. It was purposeful looking. Especially the Evo 2. Seat being burned by the FIA allowing Peugeot to use the 206 killed it for them, I believe. Not to mention Skoda being there as well.
I would love to see SEAT (via Cupra) returning to WRC. Now that even Lancia has their eyes on return to rallying, it won't be impossible for Cupra to get back into WRC
@@kjp-sy8uftrue but so is lancia, and theyve hinted at a return to rally despite being an ev only company (as far as im aware, atleast). hopes up for both i guess

You know it's a good day when Failed Racers posts another video about fascinating racing cars, this car always reminds me of my childhood - Colin McRae Rally 2.0, I always used it there
I had *no* idea Loeb test-drove the Cordoba WRC at one point for a press day; how different would WRC history have looked had SEAT pounced and given Loeb a full-time drive!?
The Seat WRC program was very solid at the time, but underfunding from the VW group kinda killed it. Skoda had the same issue, yes, but Seat, having achieved some impressive results, deserved better.
Thank you for this awesome video on one of my favourite rally cars! Amazing footage, brought back memories. The Cordoba had genuine potential but unfortunately VAG had two of its makes competing with each other in the WRC (Too many cooks spoil the broth!) and probably ditched the wrong make. May you please also consider a future video on the never-raced and probably never-built MG DTM racer of 2005? Look forward to the Cadillac story.
I always assumed the Cordoba and the Octavia had the same engine, and I am now amazed at the discovery that they didn't. What on God's earth was VAG thinking?
The Cordoba had two problems that ruined its chances . it was Very front/top heavy and underpowered.Fun fact, one of the suppliers for this car was....Prodrive.
Actually, Liatti said that the engine was very good, and it was rumoured that it was the most powerful, but everything else was a bit wrong, like the rear wing: it was too big in the first version of the car, and because of that, performances were harmed a bit.
@@Snarl616 i know history ofnseat in WRC do gtfo. IT is not secret from where cordoba WRC engine was developed. You just wrote your first comment from the ass without any conection with facts
Beautifully executed video, it had everything I expected like complete teardown of evolutions, historical background of Ibiza Kit Car domination, ups and downs...and I swear I did not know about Seb Loeb giving it a test drive. So everything I expected plus more plus some obvious puns. Neat!
Spaniard Carlos Sainz (also without a spot after retirement of Toyota) was close to Seat for 2000, but he was not convinced by the car. At the end he chose Ford and so Seat signed Auriol.
You forgot to mention so many things here: 1. UNDERSTEER. During the Catalunya 99 round, Liatti said that the Cordoba behaved well in the first kms, but then the tyres were destroyed. The only way to fix that was to adopt some (quote) "compromise solution" in the suspensions setup, which made the tyres last longer, but made the car understeer. This was a design flaw that was never fixed, because to fix that you basically need another platform, and since WRC are based on road cars, there was no chance. 2. UNRELIABILITY. While the Octavia was the wrong car but at least they made a tank out of it, the Cordoba broke down many times. In 2000 Auriol was many times without power steering, and in Montecarlo 1999 Liatti would have finished much higher than 6th if the brakes didn't leave him. Ok, it was the debut, but still... 3. UNPROFESSIONALISM. Sometimes, the team was to blame too. Why did Liatti retire in China 1999? Because after a water splash, water entered into the electric part of the car, thus shutting it off. The only answer that Liatti had from the team was to enter in the river slower. Also, in a round (can't remember which one, maybe Finland 2000), a Seat retired just because they didn't put enough fuel in the car. Mistakes happen, but at these levels they shouldn't. 4. BEATEN BY AN EX DRIVER. Rovanpera was fired from Seat at the end of 1999. In the 2000 Finland round, Rovanpera ended 3rd with an obsolete Toyota Corolla and could have been 2nd if they didn't mess up a stage time he did, while Gardemeister retired and Auriol finished 11th. All in all, to me the Cordoba WRC was total crap. Not the worst WRC, but surely the one that disappointed the most and delivered the least. It was flawed from the beginning and things never improved despite various evolutions to the car were brought along. If anything, they went worse and worse and Seat revealed to have an inefficient team. Yes the car scored some podiums, but only when everybody else retired or the conditions were so extreme, like in Safari, that speed or handling don't matter much. To be honest with you, after all this, even the Ibiza was probably not that great. Ok, it won titles, but it just was nowhere against the 306 Kit and the Xsara Kit.
Emil Triner drove Cordoba Evo 2 in Czech championship in 2002. In 2003 his team bought Cordoba Evo 3. In first round he was asked about Evo 3 updates. He told that there are 3 active differential but they had to replace rear one back to older version because factory adviced them to do so. Factory said that active rear diff is less reliable and brings almost no speed improvement. Then Triner continued that Evo3 has joystick gearshift homologated but factory again adviced that it is less reliable so they used old system. Last but no least Triner said that they have different dashboard where he see better car setup. Money well spent!😁
Another sad story of a World Rally Car that simply came too late, just like the Hyundai Accent. The Cordoba would have rocked in 1997. The Evo 2 version would have been great in 1998. Unfortunately it just came too late.
Could you please post your complete track list? The music you use in the videos arr amazing and the EDM tracks fit amazingly reminding me of the ost from the Wip3out series.

Quality is definitely improving video by video. I would go easy with the background music, level the volume of the only music parts with the narration parts.
The idea behind the high sound level with the music is I'm going for the effect that's like what you'd get from a 'bass drop' kinda thing, if I put the music up high after saying a line, it makes the line hit 'harder' idk how to explain it, but it's a bit of an effect I like to do, but I know that not everyone is going to like this effect which is why I put the volume warnings as well

The reason for the sound editing being like this has to do with engagement and the fact that in 2024, long videos have to compete with Tik Tok, UA-cam shorts, Instagram Reels etc. Having the music turned up between the speaking creates a sort of bass drop effect at the end of the previous sentence which can make the words sound more powerful. But I'm also aware that whilst a lot of people think that it sounds really cool, others won't like it, so I put the warning. That way the viewer can decide of they want to stick with the original effect, or lower the volume. I think giving the viewer the choice is the way to go.
