    I personally think the Ypsilon might be a stop gap while they wait for the Delta to become the Rally 1 machine

      That's fairly likely. They're considering making rule changes to "make larger cars more competitive". What exactly those rules are is anyone's guess, but the Delta would be the perfect fit for it.

    4:57 Delta is also confirmed to be on its way as a hatch so I wouldn’t be surprised if it is their Rally1/2 car instead

      Dacia WILL be going to Dakar next year with Sebastien Loeb of all people driving for them. Unfortunately the car is hideous, it looks pre-crashed

      Actually, back when the Dakar was held in South America, Renault Argentina used to enter two Duster Rally Raid T1 prototypes powered by a Nissan VQ35.

    Yeeeeeeessssss! Hopefully they build an actual Fast Delta Integrale. I pray that they take inspiration from the GR Yaris/Corolla. They seem to be popular/profitable enthusiast cars.
    2 (ish) Liter with 400+ HP where it can compete with an entry level 911 for less than half the price would be my dream Delta HF.
    Most hot hatches are FWD econo-boxes that are modified into a hot hatch. What if you built the car from the ground up to be a hot hatch? Put the transverse engine/gearbox behind the front axle for weight distribution. Lean the engine/valve cover forward to harken back to the original (and to put enough room for intake next to the firewall). Offset the intercooler to the gearbox side to balance L/R weight. If its a hybrid push the batteries to the back.
    Permanent AWD, if hybrid put electric power to the back to get rearward power distribution.

    Really glad Lancia is back at rallying, even though I think the Ypsilon looks simply *_Awful_* with capitalized A, but just the front, in the rest, it looks decent
    Future will tell if they can succed once more with the Ypsilon

    Since now a Stellantis satelite I would not be surprised if Lancia engineering department "borrowed" some of the now discontinued 208 T16 R5 solutions, trchnology and know-how, and used it as a development accelerator.
    Or maybe they will go into Rally3 as a first step to modern all wheel drive rallying?

    I have the ultimate soft spot for old Lancias, mainly due to the fact that I share a birthday with one of the biggest names in rallying as well, so hearing this and the return of the Gamma (odd choice... I have a feeling I may be missing somert there...) and the legendary Delta!? No, I'm not crying cuz I'm sad, don't be ridiculous!

      Both. The dynamic outside footage is a rendering, whilst the footage of the car being unveiled on the stage is the real car. Lancia's official youtube and website are the sources of both.

    I really hope manufacturers find the new Rally1 ruleset interesting. I don't really doubt Lancia is heading for Rally2 (and possibly also Rally3) later on, but we'll see about Rally1. If the ruleset is interesting for Stellantis, I'm sure we'll see either Lancia, or Peugeot or Citroen at the very top of WRC. They also own Fiat and Opel, both iconic brands in rallying, though obviously not Lancia level iconic. Both brands are currently producing rally cars, with Opel producing the Rally4 Corsa and Fiat producing the 124 Abarth RGT (in what sadly seems to be a somewhat dead class).

    Starting in rally 4 is probably best since they haven’t been in rally in a while and probably want a less risky gamble than a rally1 gamble

      Alcohol brands can sponsor but their products need to be 0.0 alcohol, see Heineken in F1 but national law can block the sponsor like in Saudi Arabia and Peroni on Ferrari and Aston Martin vehicles

      Their reputation was already dead by the time the old Ypsilon came out. They need to think of themselves as basically a startup company because they'll have to rebuild from nothing.

    As an italian car guy, I'm hopeful they could start make great cars again instead of the shitty ones they currently make, even the new delta isn't exactly a neck-turner
    Maybe they could return to be a luxury-rally brand as till the early 90s they made NIICE cars, not overpriced fiats that don't even have good interior to begin with, the famous delta HF was a product of high quality and higher price range compared to idk a golf gti of the times, it was like a M3 performance (or even better) hatchback with AWD and more than 200 horses (which by today standard it's like 350-400)
    Let's hope they make a new Delta that comes back as a valid competitor to RS/M/AMG performance and we can finally see a good heir of the "Deltona"

    this is just dumb, lancia is not "coming back" they are just replacing the old peugeot and opel rally cars with the "new" ypsilon that has the exact same chasis as the 208 and the astra. this is just a re-brand of old cars again and peugeot so far has been doing average in rally4 so dont expect great results or getting into the max category any time soon, maybe they wont even get there.

    Where does the 1.2litre engine come from? Is it a spec engine, or something from another manufacturer? I can't find any details, and they don't offer it on the road car version, so I'm assuming they didn't build it. (Definitely not asking for when a dead electric Lancia HF ever crosses my path)

    VW made the Fabia R5 alongside the Polo WRC. It was as dominant as the Polo but Skoda never came back to top class Rally.
    And this big merge FIAT is inside is less likely than Volkswagen to nurture internal competition.
    I don't think we'll see Lancia back in Rally1.

      I wouldn't say VW did Fabia R5, they were too occupied with Polo R WRC development. They had a great involvement in Fabia S2000 but a limited one with the R5. Mlada Boleslav was the one mostly responsible for the R5 and next Rally2 Škodas.
      It was the Polo GTI R5 that benefited from Fabia being developed inside the VAG as some ideas and solutions were "inspired" by Škoda achievements.
