My 4 year old asks me for a "John Townsend hat." The kind you have on here. I'm going to have to hunt for a similar one. He had his skull reconstructed by some talented surgeons due to craniosynostosis. Luckily for me a small adult hat will fit his large head, so maybe I'll have some luck finding one so he can match you. He loves your videos.

How I understood your readings. The Game warden of the tribe says you must dress like a hunter and not military so the tribe people know not to kill you. They need to see you're just hunting. Also, you must wear the brochess or money on you for trade so if you require our health care services because you have no idea what you are doing, you can pay the medicine wo/man for their services.

Hey, guys! I have a UA-cam cooking channel that I film from my home. I have done all of my videos from my Note 20 phone. I really don't like the video quality or the sound. It works, but I'd like it to be better. What would you suggest that I use? I do these alone mostly, so it would need to be a camera that I can stick on a tripod and just hit record. I'm totally 100% new at all of this, so I know diddly about it, lol! Thanks for any suggestions! You guys are awesome, by the way! I love your videos!

This is definitely a book worth buying. I listened to the playlist over a few days, while doing housework, and didn't realize that the order of the chapters is mixed up 😂 and it turned out that, other than for chronology, it's not really necessary to listen to it read in order. Just hearing the accounts in each chapter on its own is worthwhile.

Love this book and the historical Dearborn references! As a south east Michigander it's great hearing about the yesteryears and names which are now the names of roads, towns and waterways we take for granted. Thx Jon!

😂 but I'm not joking when I say these days that I think Canada and the US should be one country, neither as Canada nor as the USA, but a new and reasonable country. My Dad's Dad's Dad came to Michigan from Canada in the 1880s, and we've had a cross border family ever since, right up to my daughter marrying a Canadian and living there since 2000. I haven't seen her since the border was shut down in that mishandled SARS-CoV-2 fiasco. She moved there when it was easy to cross back and forth, and a year later we had to get working on getting passports for everyone. Some of our family couldn't do that, so they never got to go to Canada again. They're deceased now. The way I see it, it's the same difference to me as if I were cut off from traveling to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, because I was equally at home in Canada as in the US. I can go to a certain part of the St. Clair River and see the street that leads to my daughter's house just 4 blocks inland!

I don't recall the mention of the massasauga in earlier chapters. Granted, I've been listening when I get a minute, and it's been quite a while since I last listened to a chapter, so I might just not recall hearing you explain that it's a rattlesnake that's native to Michigan. It's probably in Indiana, too. There are still some massasauga around where I am, a good 70-75 miles north of Dearborn. The last time I came across one, I was picking blackberries in the wild field and woods behind my Mom and stepdad's house. I didn't even see it. I was just heading to a blackberry bush on the other side of a ring of young trees, and was warned off by a rattle. I still had my old woods instinct, because before I knew what I was doing, I was turned around going the other direction. Sadly, the snakes are all gone now. Stepdad died years ago, some neighbor chopped down all the blackberry bushes and cleared a chunk of the woods to make a motorbike riding trail, then the absentee owner of the property sold it in 2021 to be developed. The new owner cleared out all the woods and the field last summer. And Mom was so brokenhearted at losing her nature preserve that she gave up on life. She died just 2 weeks ago. We're putting the house up for sale very soon. Just have to clear it out.

For centuries these indian tribes had been mixing with european runaways, or at least the ones they considered good enough to adopt rather than return to whichever owners that tribe had a treaty with.

Anyone, not "Christian " back then was considered a "heathen" , more and more people are upset about how things were back then. We need to be more focused on being thankful things aren't still like that. Can't change the past, just learn from it. Thank you Jon for reading this story to us.
