Summer Night Fishing For Crappie!! Full-Screen LiveScope Footage!!! Trip #21

When the temps climb in the summer it's time to get the lights out and hit the lake for some night time fishing! This time out I didn't do as well as I'd hoped but wanted to share the trip anyway and talk through the challenges of fishing at night with forward sonar (and in general). Daytime temp was 101 degrees on this day but it dropped into the upper 80's after it got dark. Surface water tem...

    Just bought a used 2017 SunTrack Bass Buggy 18DLX. It's a little smaller that this one but it's basically the exact same build as your Ranger. Must just be re-branded. BTW mine has a Motorguide trolling motor. Very similar and in that same position. Gate goes over top no problem. Must be different mounting heights.

    I tie my own jigs, so I can’t just swap plastic. I like to use a little clip instead of retying constantly. You never know if they want a big white jig, a tiny black jig, or a medium green jig. The clip saves me time and can get multiple jigs down much faster. Also the loose clip allows the jig to hang horizontally without straightening the knot. Great videos as always!

      There are so many great spots all along the dam on that lake! I am thinking about loading my boat up with a bunch of brush and sinking it out there and posting the coordinates on here for everybody. I'm about to have to cut two trees down on my property so will have loads of good structure to put down - will probably do that soon to make some good deep winter spots out there for all of us. *You are right that for a lot of the year it's smaller fish on that mid-depth brush. Fall is when I have caught the big ones off there - I think as they migrate off the banks and weeds moving towards the deeper water where we find them all winter.

    Does the lvs34 look much clearer than the 32. I have been following you since you started and to me there’s a difference in the video. I have the 32 just trying to justify another $1200 for the 34. Thanks and I really enjoy your videos.

      Thanks so much! So I've fished a LOT this past year and some of that has been with a friend that has the 32. His is set up portable like mine and he brings it on the boat so we get to see side-by-side. I'd say the LVS34 is maybe ~30% more clear if you're fishing within 40ft. Past that I'd say the difference starts jumping and the 34 will let you accurately target crappie much further. That's a lot just to say basically - if you fish < 40ft from the boat I'd stick with the 32 because you can still load the boat and see good enough. If you fish further than that the 34 is much much better and may be worth the investment. *I'm about to release my cable-steer foot rotator for transducer poles within the year that is, in my opinion, the best thing ever if you use a transducer pole. I'm still working with manufacturers so don't have final pricing but if you're looking for an upgrade I really really love the thing and can't say enough good about it.

      Thank you! Yes you are correct on the install being done poorly for the replacement bimini. I have changed to a different dealership now to do any work on the boat and could not be happier with the new place. They fixed the issues with the bimini and even fixed some other things the original shop messed up on that I had not noticed. They even took pictures of the railing where the original shop caved it in with an impact wrench in case it fails so that it can be fixed under warranty. I felt like I may have complained more than I should have in this video but wanted to make sure all the minor bad stuff got covered. The boat overall is outstanding and I still smile every time I take it out - which is often! **The new bimini is beginning to show signs that the wire may have a similar issue to the original one (when you press the lower/raise button it delays and eventually stops working completely as the wire stretches/breaks). Keeping an eye on it but just a heads up to any potential buyers or current owners to keep an eye on that.

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos 22 дні тому

      Thank you! So I rarely set my distance closer than 40 feet because I wind up pitching/casting to 30-40ft and it gives me some leeway to correct the lure's position. So if I go too far left/right I can drag it back over and still have time to put it exactly where I want it when I'm approaching the fish. Now if the fish are spooky and I have to set up further then I just have to be good with the casts that day (or re-cast a lot in my case hahaha)

      Bob!!! That is exactly what I used this weekend that caught us some big ones. Those sparkle nibbles seem to disintegrate faster than the normal ones but they sure did work. My foot-rotator is coming along and I'm getting final testing done so we can get the plastic molds made now. The main box will now be made of stainless steel as it is somehow cheaper than plastic (who knew?). @@destinsboggybayouinshorech1154 Thanks so much for watching! I actually spent the last 1+ year engineering and patenting a mechanical device that lets you rotate the transducer pole using your foot (no batteries/motors). Not just blowing smoke, it is outstanding and I never fish without it any more. It attaches to almost any existing transducer pole and can be added/removed in about 10 seconds. In the final stages of prototype testing with the new metal foot box design and hope to have the first batch manufactured and in boxes soon.

I night fish pretty often in the summer to stay out of the heat and to avoid the boat traffic on busier lakes. This was probably the worst/noisiest water I've seen all year as far as bait fish everywhere and the target fish moving every 5 seconds. One trick you can do on nights like that to help you find your lure VERY fast on the screen after casting is thread 10 or so bobber stoppers a foot or two above your jig. They pop up pretty well and are easier to find on the screen during noisy-water nights like this one was.

I have a small flood light on the front rail now that lets me see my transducer pole and rod. The toughest part on this night was getting a lure to them before they moved (they were on the move big time). Once I gave up targeting individual fish and went back to just fishing the edges of the light without even looking at the scope I caught a few more. The bugs I was fighting out on the open water in this video are some other type of bug I think because I have never been bitten by them. I also rebuilt my dads BlueFin 19' aluminum which he gave me, but now being old aged, can't use it like i would like, so it's on the for sale block. Only issue I have with my Pontoon is getting on it when on the trailer. My knees and back fight me the whole time. My wife and I are in our 60's now and health issues have set in. My aunt is retired also and she just got this exact same boat after going out in mine a few times. She says the same thing I do, that you just can't beat it for comfort/stability. Haha, you will need a longer net to land the fish though! Good luck out there!

      This was up near the Monroe/West Monroe area. Somewhere north of the bridge but don't recall the exact spot. I was just trolling along side scanning for structure and saw that big tree out in the middle so I stopped to take a look. It's funny, I have fished the Tensas River and the Ouachita River and you're fishing right where the two of those meet! I bet that is a great spot to pick up some big fish!

    How did you set your live scope at what degrees did you have it toward the bottom or just shooting straight out?

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos 2 місяці тому

      Hey thanks for watching my fishing video! I don't have an exact angle and it changes a bit every time I go out due to my portable mount setup, but I try to get it where the upper beam is parallel with the water. That seems to give the best picture for me, but it probably varies +- 10 degrees on every trip out for me. One thing I did while initially getting my picture clear and adjusting settings is pulled up to a few stumps/trees and adjusted everything. I moved a few times to get the trees at various distances to make sure the picture was solid and after I was happy locked it in and took a picture of my settings so I wouldn't forget. Good luck out there!

      Thank you so much for the kind words. I have considered getting into guiding or electronics teaching and such, but I'm like you where my available time is just almost zero. Two small kids and a demanding job soak up most of my time and it is tough to find more than a day or two each month to hit the water. Now that said, I have a camera and can record my livescope screen so if you have any questions that I might could answer or take a quick video for you to help I'm more than happy to try to help. Toughest thing for me when I first got started was keeping my jig in the beam - which is still very tough on windy days!

    How do you like your pontoon boat compared to a bass boat. It looks comfy! I am trying to decide on a pontoon vs a bass boat.

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos 3 місяці тому

      Hey thanks for watching my fishing video! So, before this boat I had a 1984 bass tracker that I worked on a lot to keep it floating and the motor running. I loved that boat and caught a ton of crappie out of it. But now that I have the pontoon, I don't think I'll ever go back to a bass boat again. Putting aside the fact that I have small children and friends/family that are in wheelchairs - the boat is just a dream to fish out of. My concerns before I got the boat were mainly towing it, launching/loading it solo, and maneuverability around the timber I fish often. After more than a year I can say none of those have been issues even once. I actually think I bang into the submerged trees on Darbonne less now than when I had my smaller boat lol! Good luck with whatever you decide, either one will catch plenty of fish!!

    Good videos man. Just starting to learn Darbonne myself. Have fished a radius around the bridge mostly. Live in Arcadia now, so not far. Learning Claiborne as well. Claiborne sacs seem to be more finicky than Darboone sacs.

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos 3 місяці тому

      Thanks so much! Claiborne in the summer time is some of the toughest crappie fishing in the area. The fish that are on the brush piles or in the timber get super-pressured and it's tough to get a bite. I do love Claiborne for the stripers though, man do they fight hard! They get shallower this time of year and I usually just look across the lake for the birds and start looking for the stripers wherever the birds are. Darbonne is outstanding year round though and once you learn the general areas they migrate around across the seasons you'll be able to catch dinner any time you want. Good luck out there!

    Up here in mich we do lots of trolling on the Great Lakes. I’m looking for a ti toon with fishing in the rear only. My wife wants lots of lounging room up front. I’m doing my research and taking my time. I’ll be selling my 19ft deep v StarCraft fisherman. I hope I’m doing the right thing!

      So I've been wanting a pontoon boat for 20+ years, but even still I had a ton of fear that I'd miss my smaller boat. Now over a year in I don't think I'll ever be able to go back. It just spoils you every time you get in with all the open space and stability. I've never done any trolling in mine, but I imagine the multiple spots for seats in the rear would work really well for that. Good luck with whichever model you wind up choosing!

    What part of the lake is best for summertime fishing for crappie? I’ve only been on darbone twice and didn’t do well at all. First time was without livescope, second time the wind was 14 mph, and water white capping. Any info would help and be appreciated!

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos 3 місяці тому

      So my summer time info might be a little skewed because I generally night fish in the summer to beat the heat and boat traffic. But I mostly stick to flats near the deep channels - or hit the mid-to-deep water docks. Brush piles can be productive too, but it's hit or miss on finding good ones. I usually start out close to the main channel and work my way in until I figure out where they're holding or suspending. Good luck out there!

  • @1bellevue007

    I’m kinda new to the area and was wondering what part of darbonne do you fish ? Where do you put in at ?

    • @HighQualityFishingVideos
      @HighQualityFishingVideos 3 місяці тому

      This time of year you can put in at just about any of the boat ramps (I favor stowe creek and the main ramp in farmerville). Then you can just roam around trying spots just off of the channels until you figure out where they're holding. I honestly don't have a go-to spot in the summer since the fish tend to scatter all over this time of year. Deeper docks or brush piles can sometimes be good, but the flats near the channel are where I generally start. Good luck out there! If you have trouble reach back out or stop off at K+M and they'll give you some good food and pointers!
