Thanks Glenn! I came close to scrapping this whole video because of the issues - scrapped two other videos completely this month because of similar technical issues and the super high water levels that have the fish scattered all over. Gonna test out some fixes this week before the bass trip next week!!
I like the "hi lighting" helps me find your lure, and you used the foul language "Spider rigging with LS" say it ain't so, (Ha) enjoyed you video!!!!!!
Thanks so much, I was hoping the highlights would be helpful! I could barely keep up with where my jig was myself on this day because of all the bait fish everywhere. Hahaha, Danny I'm afraid I did do a bunch of pseudo-spider-rigging last year but I definitely don't miss it! Had some of those clamp-on rod holds on the sides of my boat and would get 3-4 poles out with 2 hooks per line. Cast-Netting shiners early in the morning when the bait stores were out was NOT fun in the middle of winter though!!!
The highlights on the jig & targeted fish are NOT a problem! Thanks for the commentary on the different jigs you were trying. I have not tried any "hand-ties; during the winter I usually start with the slab slayer profile in either (black & chartreuse) or (white & chartreuse) as they seem to have the best chance. If those don't work well, I'll move to the baby shad profile in either threadfin shad, monkey milk or cajun cricket. From there, it's like you said.... just keep trying different profiles/colors to see what they will hit.
@@The_Next_Cast So I've only been bass fishing with livescope once since I've had it (because I reeeeeally love crappie fishing). The one time I did go was early fall and I had a lot of success with swim baits and a deep-diving jerk bait. I'll probably bring a wide assortment next week just to make sure I'm covered if they decide to be on a different pattern the day I'm out there.
Totally enjoy your videos. I learned a lot from watching and was ready the throw this thing in the water. It's tough for an old guy 😂. Thank you for your time & detailed explanations.
@@jamesthigpen9041 You are so welcome James! haha, definitely don't throw it in the water!!! If you have any specific questions please let me know and I'll answer whatever I know - or tell you that I don't know. It's really hard this time of year in a lot of places because the fish are just constantly moving. For every pitch and catch I show in these videos there are 20 other pitches/casts where the fish move before my jig can get to them!
@@jamesthigpen9041 Oh, and new video coming soon! I went out two days ago and caught a bunch of huge hybrid bass and crappie in a 60ft deep lake! Video coming soon on that one after I finish all the editing!
@@jamesthigpen9041 Thanks so much James!! I bet I've seen you up there, I used to come in often for shiners or jigs and probably about to again soon since yoyo season is almost here! I'll be sure to say hey if I see you up there next time!!
Love your vids...straight to the point with livescope footage and details on whats happening...cant wait to see how bass fishing is...ps can you show the bait you catch on
Thanks Charlie! I sure will show what I have tied on in the next video for sure. I'm hoping I can use swim baits and jerk baits to catch some big open-water bass, but bringing a few backup rigs also. I actually did make a little 30 second "here's my jigs I used today" thing for this video but the lens was apparently smudged when I made it so it didn't turn out right. I'll get better at all the technical side of this stuff eventually!
Same for ive had so many chasers some will follow it all way up to the ducer and not bite its been tough for me last 3 weeks ive tried alot. Just big fish just not active for me anyway
That is wild watching them chase the jig for such a long way just to see them turn away! I have not figured out much on getting my bite-rate up for those types but I did figure out if a whole lot of fish are doing it that I need to change color and the size/shape of the lure I'm using. Had one day last year I was catching them on big 2.5 inch plastics and then a week later they wouldn't touch anything bigger than 1.5. Never dull trying to figure these fish out!
Thank so much Pete, I'm actually gathering up gear right now to go largemouth/hybrid fishing tomorrow morning (about 8 hours from now!) For color gain I almost always set it to 50. For deeper water reservoirs or river (30+ft) I will turn that up a bit, but I've never gone above 65. The reason I don't go above that is because then everything kind of looks like a hard return and it's tough for me to tell the difference in the types of cover or structure I'm looking at.
Hey Austin, those are mostly gizzard shad but mixed in there are other juvenile fish like small crappie, bream, and some bass. *I only know that because I went out in a bayou a week before this video and saw exactly the same kind of schools that I was cast-netting for bait and pulled in that mix of fish.
How do you control where the livescope is aimed? I understand the numbers at the top are distance, but how do you know where to cast when you're using spot lock?
So all those other green dots are not fish on your screen? Or are they baitfish..our lakes are deep out here in cali and they tend to be down 30ft to 50ft..what's your setting at to see jig clearly at 50ft? Also how can u tell a crappie from a bass or trout/ baitfish?
That's correct, those other green dots are bait fish (lots of them!) all over the place. Some might be smaller crappie/bream/bass mixed in with gizzard shad. The cloudy-looking bait balls are almost always threadfin shad and if you see your target fish going after those, but you're not getting bites, then it's a good sign to size-down your lures. As far as telling what's a bass/crappie it just comes from experience watching the fish or from watching videos like these. If you watch me catch a dozen or so fish you'll likely be able to tell which fish are crappie at a glance because of the shape/behavior.
Hey YardDog, thanks for watching! Those are almost all gizzard shad with a few juvenile crappie/bass/bream in the mix. I only know that because I went out on the bayou about a month ago and cast-netted a group of bait just like that to try to catch some bass and it was almost all gizzard shad. (it did not work for the bass but the gar loved them lol)
@@LaYarddog I didn't actually catch any of them that day. I would just see them come after my bait on the screen and pull it back in. I have had some good gar at a cookout but never actually kept/cooked any myself. We are actually going out fishing for some BIG gar in a few weeks. We saw some 7-8ft ones in a river bayou on the screen. We're gonna go out there again with bigger gear and see if we can land one of those giants.
@High Quality Fishing Videos you wouldn't be talking about the Ouachita River, would ya? I lived in West Monroe for a bit and would fish the sloughs and bayous coming off it.
@@LaYarddog That's exactly it! We put in at Joe Bob's right near where Bayou Darbonne meets the river and we go up and down the river where it's all flooded out (water is crazy high right now!). Or we just go up in bayou darbonne a ways since the wood are all flooded - there's gar EVERYWHERE in there right now. Messes up the crappie fishing but we're gonna take the opportunity to try to find us a monster big one!
Really appreciate the crappie Livescope footage.

Hopefully making a bass fishing video in about a week!
