We're converting our North Florida weed patch/lawn in our back yard to a productive food forest, backyard orchard and vegetable garden. Join us as we share our successes and failures while discovering the unique challenges and benefits of trying to grow healthy food in Florida's unpredictable and sometimes hostile environment. We strive for organic gardening whenever possible, but a managed garden ecosystem doesn't just happen, so we'll also talk about the benefits and issues with pest management, harvesting, plant disease and soil health. Occasionally we'll discuss specific garden tools and supplies that make our lives easier and try to show you how and why we choose to grow the plants we have.
We're located near the east coast in north Florida (zone 9), but we strive to make our videos helpful to anyone trying to beat the heat, build hurricane resistant gardens and fight off everything that flies, jumps or crawls that wants to eat our food!

Bare Root Tree Planting In Our Florida Garden
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I just bought a medium size cat palm plant about a month ago and I live in Ohio. It does good so far, but I’m a little bit worry about how it will survive during the first winter in my home as this is my first indoor palm.
What type of caterpillar was that
Would like to see a wide variety of photos here of front yard landscape islands having one or two Chaste Trees with complimentary color shrubs planted around the Chaste Trees for great curb appeal.
The ones in my backyard have their own kingdom in my bon fire. They are all use to me when I go to the backyard to smoke lol. One even used my leg as a jump to jump on top of a brick
Regarding pressure regulation. I have some drip attachments that are ‘manifolds’ with 2 to 8 1/4” connectors coming out of the top. What is the risk or how do I know if I need additional gadgets or attachments to regulate pressure? I have a well as the water source for my irrigation.
Thanks for sharing.
I've been wanting to do this, and looked at several videos, and yours was the most helpful. I have to do everything myself, and the ratchet strap was just what I needed to help me with this. These cattle panels are not that heavy, but they are awkward to deal with by yourself. I put up two of these arch trellis today. The only thing I did different was to attach the cattle panels about 8-10 inches off the ground to give me a little more height. Great tutorial video! Thanks.
Yup that works great - on a stiff panel but on a welded wire fence, beware the welded wire will give on you. You also have to have the fencing stretched enough before applying the clip. THIS IS THE BEST MOST CONCISE VIDEO ON THIS I"ve Seen.
I HAVE SO MANY IN MY FRONT YARD
My hometown lets you take all you want if you live there. Multiple 25 foot tall piles of it. People dump their yard waste at the same site, and there’s big machines to process it and turn it over. My mom top dresses with it, and her garden always performs phenomenally. Very cool they do this for the residents.
I've lived in Florida for many years... Have never heard a single person call them '' anolees" 😂
Excellent video!
GOAT
i’ve watched several videos on using cattle panels for planting archways. Many are very good. This is the best I’ve seen to date. Well done.
What are anoles? Adorable. Thats what they are
I have 10 plants in my garden area. What emitters do I put on the ends of my 1/4 inch tubing? I don't want slow drips, just water dispersed the plant bases.
I transplanted from ground to a pot a bougainvillea, should I have in shade or keep in sun
Provide shade in afternoon until it's roots are more stabilized...water it really well for the next 2 weeks.
Thank you
what gauge is the steel for your panels and what size are the squares? Thanks in advance
I have to say that I have been in love with these trellises. I just couldn't understand how to actually build one. Your video was fantastic and really easy to understand. I particularly liked the info about using ratchet straps to form the shape and control the structure until it is attached to posts. I really appreciate the advice on how to secure the clips to the posts for additional strength and security. I'm headed to my tractor supply to begin shopping for supplies. Thank you kindly. I subscribed because I like your direct and succinct instructions.
Thank you so much for your feedback! ☺️
Great video thx! I just bought my first one and I am propagating some cuttings right now. One question I have is once it blooms do you cut off the dead blooms to get new blooms or do you just leave it?
If I am diligent and have time, I cut off the dead bloom. But I have been leaving them alone.😜
You enjoy them. Happy gardening!
@@AnoleGarden thank you! Does it bloom again if you just leave it alone? My Vitex is about a 15 gallon, maybe five feet tall. Once it blooms in the summer, the blooms only last a couple/few weeks. How do I get it to bloom again? Thx!
This is the best video I've seen on putting up panels. Thanks!!
Thank you! 😊
So far you have the best video explaining how to build one of these arched cattle panels trellis. Well done ❤️
Thank you so much! 😊
Hi thanks for that video...i was wondering how to prune my three year old cassia plant that hasnt bloomed till now. To my dismay and confusion, this tree grows more by giving long side branches than gaining height. ... what do i do so it picks up growth length wise
These are known to be fast growing...and they aren't very strong. I would skirt them up, remove the lower branches. And shorten the long branches...you want them "tight". The shorter branches are less prone to breaking. Hope that helps!
@@AnoleGarden thanks 🙏🏽
Oh great! I just planted two on each side of a bench. Now I’m worried about the bees. 😮
The bees may be an issue only while the flowers are in bloom. 😬
great video and very clear and creative. Just wanna ask, what are the dimensions of each panel? and what gauge did u use? ty

Greetings from Southern Virginia! I just discovered your channel. Great work and a lovely garden. I love the layout and am in the process of building one of my own. I hope you have not given up creating videos. However, I know how much work it is to make them. I would love to see an update on your food forest endeavor.
Thank you so much! We haven't given up!
Thank you so much 😊. We haven't given up! Life keeps getting in the way 😜!
That was BRILLIANT!! Thank you, I really needed that!!
Nice Tip with the Gallvy'Fence wire!
Great job....looks terrific.....I want to do this in my garden but only with one cattle panel. Yours is really nice.
Great video!
I really wanted to go 4'. Do you think that would be possible?
Nice how to video.
They tiny raptors, I seen one one hunt a beetle right off the driveway
Hi Excellent video. So well explained. Just a question how many sq ft of the fence you needed for the 5 ft wide and 80 inches high trellis. I need the trellis to be 12 ft wide and 80 inches high and am wondering what length doni need to go for . Thanks
Très aidant. Exactement ce que je cherchais. MERCI!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video for us. This is exactly what we are trying to build this spring. :)
Thank you so much for this video! I’m just starting to get into building things by myself and this was so insightful! One question, aside from putting the T-post into the ground and pushing it down… do you use anything else to secure the entire trellis to the ground? I just worry mine will fly away on an extra windy day is all! 😅 Thanks again for the video 🙌🏽
Thanks
Will this resist strong winds? Is it possible to make something like this that strong winds won't take it away?
Bravo........cement builders cloth 6x6.......cheers
Wonderful video! I've been wanting to do this. Love your attention to detail and safety.
I have cattle panels that were used as a c wild hog trap that trapped many a wild hog. You helped to show me another use for them. Really loved your instructional video using the ratchet straps as a safety measure. Great idea, Thank You, for sharing.
Thank you for this tutorial. I shared with a friend who is about to build a trellis.
I love doing this.
That would hold watermelons!!
Great Video. Thank you so much. Will be making trellises and a turkey run for my poults. Perfect!
What size wire did you use? There are different sizes.
