  • This is our second garden and food forest tour. We are building a garden and food forest using principles from permaculture, square foot gardening and urban homesteading.
It's early May and Summer is just around the corner. We added 3 more fruit trees, giving us a total of 16 different types of fruit trees. We added another type of blackberry. We added chives, sorrel and other perennials and vines in the food forest.
    Corrections:
I mispronounced the lavender name... it's origano, not oregani or oregano.
The scientific name for sweet potato is Ipomoea batatas, sweet potato is a member of the Convolvulaceae or morning glory family. The scientific name for purple yam is Dioscorea alata. I also may have misspelled Quinault in the callout... The native American tribe is spelled Quinault, I've seen the strawberry name spelled both with and without the second U and lots of sources disagree on that. I will probably use the U from now on, as I'm reasonably sure the name is in reference to the tribe and they deserve the respect and dignity of having their name spelled accurately (and so much more!).
We've been converting our suburban back yard to a food forest and fruit orchard. We do our best to share what we learn about growing in Florida's conditions… heat, humidity, thunderstorms, hurricanes, poor soil (ok… sand), bugs, etc.
We're located near the east coast in north Florida (zone 9), but we strive to make our videos helpful to anyone trying to beat the heat, build hurricane resistant gardens and fight off everything that flies, jumps or crawls that wants to eat our food!
If you found this useful, please remember to give us a thumbs up and subscribe... that really helps new people find us. Thanks for choosing to spend your time with us!

Thanks! We find it sometimes gives a better perspective of how everything is laid out, especially when we're not just talking about one or two things. Thanks for the comment!

We call sweet potatoes "kumara". I eat one every night with my dinner.

Every night would be a bit much for us, but we're glad we have them and they do produce a fair amount as long as we keep them watered.

@@AnoleGarden all I eat is veges, meat and fruit. No wheat, no sugar etc. I would have a very empty plate without my spud and kumara lol
