    Hey man QQ: I have a 1983. Is it accurate that I just add oil and to bag and it will also count as primary fluid/ transmission? I’m having a hard time finding an accurate answer on this. I’ve never not added it separately even in the manuals and forums it’s not very clear. Thank you.

    Thanks Grease, great video. Just wondering, when checking your Main Jet size you pulled out your spark plugs and said that the colour of the plugs your bike is running too lean, what would be the right colour of the spark plugs when you have the right size Main Jet? Thanks again.

    Great video, What is different on my 1986 FXST 5 speed was it had a lever on it that the clutch cable crossed over to the left side of the bike. It had a pawl inside the cover that the arm with the cable was attached to that over time would break or bend, but only on the 1985-1986 models.Then it was discontinued by Harley and went to the transmission cover with the ball and ramp set up which is what I converted mine to.I wonder if the jockey shift would have worked on the old factory set up that I still have stored away. I think it still would be a problem if the starter was in the way but would be a good experiment. Your right about the 4th gear on a 4 speed and the 5th gear on a 5 speed being the same because I have owned both. The best thing to do is go up a tooth or two on the sprocket to get better highway speed and lowering the rpm's.

      @ I’m not sure, the person I got it from tried to do the wiring themselves and didn’t know a thing about it. I suspect the issue is mechanical because after the chopper wiring video everything else worked perfectly. The bike backfires but won’t run, has fuel spark and compression. I’m hearing ignition timing may be off 180° but I’m not sure how to adjust that.

    Nice break down and explanation. Not sure what jets i have in my E. But I have it on 69 shovel bottom, 80 inch, and the top end are STD panheads, port and polished. Bike starts up great. Idles great, It's great running around town. It is good, even at highway speeds. I don't have a speedo on bike, but bike starts to break up at a higher speed where I have to back off the throttle. I'm thinking above 60 mph. Would that be the main jet I should change, and what direction should I go. Bigger or smaller. Thanks if you could help me out

    • @greasesgarage
      @greasesgarage 15 днів тому

      I would have to know what’s in there now to tell you whether the breakup is from being too rich or too lean, but generally speaking, lean condition will pop and sputter, rich condition will bog down and miss

  • @ivancounsell4077
    @ivancounsell4077 19 днів тому

    I must admit, the idle on my Shovel is quite a bit lower, the oil pressure is still very good at 'potato, potato, potato' rpm. I do need to up jet a little though. I run a bellmouth and I've noticed a bit of lag, but I have had a bit of trouble with the accelerator pump being a bit intermitant, I have since cured that problem, the rubber gaiter was gripping the operating rod and it wasn't dropping back down.
