    Overall a good video on a commonly overlooked maintenance item. But just another FYI, you're using that adjustable wrench backwards. Always pull (or push if need be) against the fixed jaw, never the adjustable jaw. The heads of your fasteners will thank you.

    Grease, my grandmother recently gave me an 84 fxe evo, completely disassembled, in boxes, and with no prior knowledge of bikes and just watching your videos, I'd say i'm 80% of the way to getting this thing running. Me and G-ma can't thank you enough, keep up the great informative content!

    Good video ! I like to use a thin neoprene o ring on the fill plug , and use 75-140 non synthetic oil for long life , no leak ! If you do not have a weep hole do not over fill oil , use a drop of thread sealer on drain plug .

    Just FYI: 1985 was the last year for the rotary top transmission. Good video 👍

      That’s true, a buddy of mine actually has an 85 evo with the shovel trans. I’m a fan of the combo myself haha

    Strange... I've been draining my oil from the plug on the bottom side of the case. I'm gonna have to look when I get home if there's another plug that I didn't notice all this time. My luck with oil leaks is that they progressively get worse if I ignore them for too long. Also on those cowpies, if the sprocket nut isn't torqued to at least 140 foot lbs, they will leak 100% of the time. Found that out the hard way.

    The weep hole plug is easy to find at any hardware store. Its just an 1/8" pipe plug.

    Gonna have to do this soon. I just bought myself a Baker six speed OD so I can run an N1 shift drum. That'll make it easier to not kill myself on my foot clutch, hand shift, no-front-brake death trap of a bobber.

      I’m jealous! Those bakers look so sweet and having the modern OD gear in the same package, perfect

      They are nice but a little bit spendy. I had to save up for it, but it's what I wanted.

    Ya know.. I’ve broken a grand total of 2 kicker gears on road trips. What is a proper way to clean out all the contaminants and metal residue from a 4 speed trans? My buddy’s dad said to fill it with gas, drain it, fill it with gas, drain it until all the shavings are out. Idk, i’ve just been running it. Haven’t really done too much research on this

    Hi grease, I was wondering if you know what I'll need for a rear drum brake on my chop? Love that clean look from the A side of the bike. Can't find much of a definite guide out there

    those weep hole allens will eventually strip out. what i do is shine a flashlight into fill hole and look at clutch acuator lever over throwout bearing when you pull clutch in fluid should just skim the bottom this is exactly where it would come out of weep hole.

    I think it's funny that on my modern 5-speed cable actuated transmission, there is no weep hole. They include a hilariously ineffective "dipstick" to check the level, but the 1985 transmission actually has a far more effective design.

    • @greasesgarage
      @greasesgarage  7 місяців тому

      I remember that dipstick, the low and full marks are SO far apart that it’s almost mind blowing. The difference in oil levels between those marks is nearly half the full level lol

    You can always suck the fluid out if your drain plug is sketchy
