126. The Kids Aren’t Alright: Parenting, Failure to Launch & Gender Distress with Laura Wiley Haynes
Laura Wiley Haynes returns to shed light on the complex intergenerational aspects of the current gender crisis. Why do so many young people today seem unable to launch into adulthood, remaining perennially online and disembodied, reportedly held back by feelings they label “dysphoria?” What developmental shifts have occurred in parenting over the last few generations that might explain this phenomenon?
Laura shares her insights on how the lack of dyadic care-one-on-one nurturing relationships-has contributed to a generation of children who struggle with self-perception and emotional regulation. Could the rise of screens and social media be robbing our kids of the deep, relational connections they need to thrive? We explore the implications of group care environments and how they may hinder the development of essential social skills.
As we discuss the alarming trend of young adults romanticizing their emotional turmoil, I ask: what happens when a young man on estrogen experiences mood swings reminiscent of a teenage girl? Is this a sign of deeper unresolved issues? Join us as we unpack these critical questions and more, revealing the intricate web of attachment, trauma, and the urgent need for effective parenting in today’s world. Tune in to discover how we can better support our children in navigating their identities and emotions.

Great episode 💜 Came here to share that I went to an ob because of heavy periods…I had only just started my cycle a few months earlier.. she prescribed the progestin only pill… I was on that pill until my mid twenties and now at mid thirties I still don’t have a regular cycle and might ? be infertile. That doctor never followed up with me and might even be accidentally sterilizing other young women to this day. Hormonal birth control is still experimental-and is essentially a castration method… our hormonal cycles are necessary root every part of bodily maturing and function, to give these “medicines” to young girls with no follow up and no informed consent, and NO exploration of other causes or treatments… it is extremely unethical and one of the reasons why I do not trust or honor the “authority” of medical professionals

Maybe that is the case for some. But many of us were just abused by our parents. My parents were wealthy but still managed to mess it up. Luckily I am a balanced and okay person. I think kids need not just a solid Mom and Dad connection but also community connections, in case mom and dad are not okay.

Thanks you two for sharing your story. My husband came out of the closet. I actually forced him to because he was being deceitful and needed to be honest. The kids were really confused because daddy's voice was coming from what they saw as a woman. They didn't recognize daddy in drag. He wanted to throw himself into the trans lifestyle and this broke up our marriage. He became toxic. The story doesn't end there, but it's all I want to share. I'm happy that you two stayed together and are working toward healing. ❤

01:04:22 "Can you catch and skin a rabbit"....that's a skill humans should forget for eternity!!! Talking about the love of nature and the killing of gorgeous innocent wildlife like rabbits in the same breath is just totally absurd. One of the main reasons why nature and wildlife is in decline is due to overhunting by humans.

Thank you both. People are catching on and podcasts like this help. I looked at Terf is a Slur website - documents the hate to women who are asserting women's rights issues...truly horrific stuff.(I realise there will be trans people not like this). Sex Matters websites also documents aggressive attacks on small women's rallies. Women's rights, children and young people's wellbeing and free thought rights are being given away abetted by well meaning adults in all kinds of positions of trust. Rights are a balance. We need to support kids better than this and with the grown men its about respecting everyone's boundaries and not letting them dominate as males tend to do. The notion of a trapped brain in the wrong body is not therapeutically or morally healthy. We need to learn from this how contagions/social media impact on troubled kids / teens and get wise for future ones. Our schools and institutions (I'm in UK) need to wake up fast, the CASS report has started that. Russell Brand you are right about. So right.

It’s so disappointing to hear a therapist disparage providers for prescribing medications that are safe and effective, and life changing for many patients. We do not prescribe them without thought, and we certainly review mechanism of action and side effects. Yet what is said is not always what’s heard, and the message is further watered down when repeated to a third party. Many studies show that both ssris and therapy are effective, with ssris working more quickly (and cheaply), and when combined with therapy, achieve a better result than either treatment alone. Oral contraceptives do impact libido and mood, but I’ve been in practice for 30 years. Both ssris and ocps have been around that entire time, yet I’ve not seen a single young women develop gender dysphoria until it became the psych ailment du jour around 2015. Mt wake up to gender dysphoria was in 2021 when 3 in one month presented to my practice and prior to that I had seen a total of one transsexual, a traditional AGP, in the preceding decades.

It can feel like walking a tightrope to address family trauma in the context of rogd. Parents do the best they can with the tools they inherited, by happenstance, from the family tree. In many cases those tools or lack of them represent the parents’ own untreated emotionally traumatic childhood. If you only inherited the family toolbox hammer & sandpaper and not any linseed oil or soft chamois rags, it limits how polished the results can turn out. Meanwhile the cult is using every lovebombing trick in the book to lure the kids away from the families with incomplete toolboxes. Therapists and parent coaches are trained to notice what’s missing from the family tree’s toolbox. We can offer to help parents upgrade or swap out the appropriate equipment for the situation. But if the parent is too invested in defending the incomplete toolbox, and cannot put down the one tool they always relied upon, then our help is rejected. The cult’s lovebombing may become irresistible to the kids. Even if the kids continue on that path, I like your discussion of grac(iousness) as always a possibility for present and future reconciliation. In truth our personhood essence is not about perfect body parts or about correct beliefs. Our relationships can transcend all these limitations when we open to grace.

The trans women aren't as aggressive towards men that don't want to engage with them for two reasons. Men are physically stronger, and as they don't have any benevolence for the weaker sex (ss they think they're its member), strength is a persuasive argument. But another reason is, the most aggressive and narcissistic trans people are autogynephillic trans women, so the ones attracted to women. Trans people attracted to males are far less disturbed and not empathetic.

  • @LatajaceStadoKotow

i don’t think it’s a maternal instinct thing. plenty of women have their own children but still end up babying their husbands bc that’s what the husbands demand of them - all their undivided attention. and a lot of women feel they have to do this to keep their partner around, or he’ll leave them. it’s men being narcissistic and taking advantage of women, and men are more narcissistic with big egos on average. that’s why they get enraged when a woman rejects them. the announcing their transition during the woman’s pregnancy thing is a form of abuse. a lot of abusers trap their wives through pregnancy or marriage when it becomes harder for the woman to walk away from the relationship, and then emotionally, financially or even physically abuse them. just read some of the trans widows’ stories. the narcissism can lead to abusive behavior

I really wish I could get more information specifically for autistic children. Almost every discussion centers around the impact on women’s rights or young girls, but not much focuses on autistic children. I need to know how to speak to my autistic child on the subject in case this ever comes up.

Brilliant!!! I can't wait to absorb ALL of this and help the parents I support! I've been referring them to you already. I'm also wondering if you should rename this ROGD Prevention and Repair to possibly appeal to a wider audience...? This has so many great tools for parents generally as well.

This is incredible, Stephanie! I’d love to see this become a powerful resource for so many more parents of ROGD kids.

There is no such thing as ROGD. There is no such thing as ROGD kids. There is such a thing as brainwashing and the inability to separate reality from fantasy though.

Hope you don't mind, but I recommended you to another podcaster in their private group, where they occasionally ask for guest suggestions. It's not a huge show, but the host is close friends with Michael Malice and Dave Smith, who have both been repeat guests on Rogan. It's a somewhat academic Libertarian political show so maybe you won't like those optics, but it could be a good way to reach a receptive audience who need your program.
