      My headers are BBK shorties that I bought from Summit. I just tried to find my order info and came up short. Only thing I wished I had done differently is to install locking header bolts. I struggled with a few of the bolts walking out until i replaced them Stage 8 lockers.

    Thanks for the dimension regarding how much you moved the footbox wall (2.25"). One question though, I'm building a 289 Mk4 w/BP 347 (maybe shorty headers)... I'd liked to do the whole footbox mod. before installing the eng/trans. Do you think my clearance for the BP 347 will be sufficient? Also, where did you get the actual coffee cup holders...? I'll look around but since I'm posting to you... thought I'd ask. Thanks, -Steve in Oregon ('Grubester' on FFForum)

      Hello Steve, I believe you would have enough space with your engine. As far as I know, the BP347 is about the same width as my Ford Racing 302. My headers are shorties as well. I found my cup holders at a local marine supply house. I’ll see if I can find a name on them. They work nicely as they hold my Yeti mug nicely.

    Just getting around to installing my MKIV radiator and came across this. The lower radiator is held in place by the Sheetmetal. It's also a good idea to use a hinge type mounting scheme on the top to allow the radiator to move around a little bit.

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 Місяць тому

      Funny you should mention this. I'm in the process of replacing my radiator due to a small crack that developed somewhere along passengers side of the core. I'm not sure if its a result of not using the hinge method or not, but I'm not going to take any changes and I'm definitely installing the hinge this time. I'm glad I used the bottom brace though and will continue to use it as it gives me some slight flexibility on the angle of the radiator. I did install rubber mounts on this brace, so I'm hoping that gives me enough isolation from the frame, in hopes of avoiding any future problems. Thanks for the note!

    • @MegaScott
      @MegaScott Місяць тому

      @ the lower mount needs to be able to move around, the frame horns that the bumper mounts and the body mounts to sometimes need adjustment (bend or persuasion) to line up. A lead hammer or a swift kick with my size 13’s did the trick for mine. Seems kind of janky but it is what it is. Once the body mounts are on and the bumpers, the sheet metal goes on which will require minor trimming and the lower piece rivets or screws to the radiator cross bracket, at least that’s how FFR designed it to work.

    I like what you have done with you car and thanks for making this series. I have started a build of my own and have learned a lot of good tips from watching your videos. What type of hood latches did you use? My search for them has come up empty.

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 2 місяці тому

      I ended up making those hood latches. I used the lower section from the latches provided by FFR, and removed the handle and welded a 1/2" hex socket cap head in its place. I wanted to streamline the hood latches a bit and draw a little less attention to them. I keep a small hex wrench in my cubie to open and close the hood.

    Wind noise is a problem for sound guys in the film industry (like me). Theymake sound blimps that help, but TBH, you're better off recording engine exhaust in your shop, and just dubbing it in in the edit. The film "Bullit" with the famous chase scene, the dubbed in the exhaust sound from the Ford GT40 for the stock sound.

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 7 місяців тому

      I've learned a lot since recording that in October. :) However, my mic was the real problem.

    • @TeddyRumble
      @TeddyRumble 7 місяців тому

      @@randomwerks3763 I have never worked with a GoPro, but I'm sure they have a wind muff that can go over the mic. What I do in windy locations is boost the filter up to take care of the low frequencies. Wind is low frequency, so boosting the low pass filter up to 250 hz or so can really make a huge difference. Also, brining the mic into the car might help. An good external mic with a good wind muff is a good idea too. I've had luck with my Rycote wind muff on my Rode mic, but that costs $700 or so, pluss a couple hundred for the Rycote. What the pros do is just do ADR, meaning record the audio in studio or in a quiet location, the use your editing software to dub it in.

      I was a bit concerned about that as well. Prior to designing it, I reached out to the state of Maine DMV as well as my local inspection station and they couldn't see anything listed anywhere saying it wasn't allowed. When I spoke to a DMV inspector, he said "Exhaust exit location isn't specified and that he had inspected a few vehicles that had a similar exit location". I know I mentioned this in a few of my videos, but I'm having zero problems with exhaust smell-- certainly no more than what you'd find in a side exhaust scenero. It's puffs the exhaust gases far out to side of the car to a point where it clears the cabin.

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 9 місяців тому

      Yes, its one of the sacrifices you need to make. There's absolutely no way to paint this after all of the holes are drilled. You'd basically need to build the car, and then take it completely apart, then repaint the frame and then reassemble it. The other issue is that there are parts that can only go on once such as all of the aluminum panels that get riveted in place. Where I could, I filled the drilled holes with silicon before assembling the parts to keep rust at bay. The other consideration is that I'm really never going to have my car out in bad weather, and certainly not on salty roads.

      It's an older go-pro and I didn't realize the wind noise was so bad until after I got home and downloaded the video. Bummer.

    Awesome job! I agree that the standard forward vent seems counter productive. When I saw your cardboard mock-up I immediately thought of rain gutter downspout. Did you give any thought to just having the bilge bower under the dash without any ducting? Also curious if you installed a heater?

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 10 місяців тому

      Yes, I actually did think about putting the fan under the dash. I couldn’t figure out a good way to pull air from a cooler spot. Also this was such an easy way to do it, it just made sense to do it this way.

      Funny you mentioned the gutter downspout. I was holding one of those trying to think if I could modify something like that to work.

      I don't know the cfm requirements but have you thought of PC fans. They make special ones for noise sensitive applications. Alternatively, have you considered wiring the fan up to a potentiometer for speed control?

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 10 місяців тому

      I did try a potentiometer but there must be some circuitry in the fan that prefers a constant voltage. As soon as I lowered the voltage, it just shut off. Honestly, the fan noise is almost imperceptible when the engine is running so I think it’s going to be good as is.

      If it moves soooo much air, could you get by with a slightly smaller fan and thus: less fan noise? (Also, how did you acquire the heated seat feature?)

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 10 місяців тому

      Yes, you could definitely get by with a smaller fan, I just wasn't able to find one. These 3" bilge fans are pretty common and they all seem to be about the same. With that said, I can actually hardly hear it when with the engine running-- and my car is not that loud. @@stevegrube9179

      I forgot to comment on the seat heaters. I bought a set of Dorman seat heater pads and installed them. They slide right inside the seat covers. I believe they are only about $80 each. @@stevegrube9179

    Nice, another great innovative mod, but, I still got to do the seat belts like yours on my car, got everything for it, I just need some free time and nicer weather

      Hello Brandon, I tried replying via my phone earlier, but it didn't seem to show up in this thread. I'm not sure what you schedule is, but I'm open Wednesday and Friday mid-day for a visit. I'm working from home both of those times this week so if that fits your schedule I'm available

    Hi watched most of your videos. Unbelievable job! I’ve been looking to build a Daytona, coupe from factory five but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. It would be great to check your car Lu sometime and pick your brain about the build. I live in exeter so not far from you.

      Hi Brandon, I’d love to chat with you about the build. I’m also available most days if you like to stop by and see the car and ask questions. I did the same prior to my build.

    Absolutely amazing build. Do you have a site where you post the source of the headlights and some of the other custom parts?

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 11 місяців тому

      Thanks for the nice note. The headlights I found on an aftermarket Jeep site- same 7” size. The other custom parts I ended up making myself. There aren’t really a lot of parts available for these cars that deviate from the original look so this prompted me to make my own. The roll bar and exhaust were the biggest challenges.

      Hey thanks. The LED head lights are from Loyo (7” wrangler replacement). All the small LED component light bulbs are from Superbrite LED. Otherwise all the other custom stuff I fabricated.

    First of all I love the car! I have watched all of the build videos and they are great. I know you mentioned that you have a size 12 shoe which I do as well but how tall are you? I'm just under 6'2" and have been concerned with being able to comfortably fit for long drives. Thanks for all the videos, Cheers!

    • @randomwerks3763
      @randomwerks3763 11 місяців тому

      Hello Kenneth, Thanks for the nice note. Oh yes, my size 12 EEE feet were a challenge, but with the right shoe and the widened foot box area, I have no problems whatsoever. I've been on a few long drives (300 miles in one day) and have been very comfortable. I'm about 6-feet so not as tall as you, but I don't suspect you'd be uncomfortable. My seat has about an inch more space behind it if I feel I need it, but so far so good. One thing that did help tremendously is to put a riser under the front part of the seat. Its supports the legs a bit better and makes things more comfortable. This essentially tips the whole seat back which changes the geometry a bit so it's worth experimenting with before permanently mounting it. I remember reading on the Factory Five Forum about someone who is 6'3" and he said the car fits him nicely. I believe the earlier kits where more confined, and one of the changes made on the most current iteration increased leg room.
