@yakkittymack August 19th I will have it a year. This is actually my 3rd. First one was just a $300 one from Walmart but then I bought jackson coosa which I still have but the sportsman 106 pdl is by far my favorite.
@@bradjones5876 Yeah, my first was a Vibe Yellowfin 100. I still have it but it hasn't left the shed since I got the PDL. I think my "ultimate" kayak doesn't exist yet, but will once Old Town makes an EPDL in the Sportsman lineup. Tight lines my friend!
@AbbyNormill 😂 first off, love the Abby Normal reference! 😂 So you are the first person I have spoken to that has experience with the Zulu, so if you don't mind I have a couple of questions. If you were to put a trolling motor on the back, would you be able to raise it in shallow water easily? What do you use for rod storage? Thank you for watching and commenting!!!
@@LifetimeProductsCorporate thank you! I am hopeful to get my hands on the Manta to review, test, and use in tournaments for the channel. I sent an email a couple of weeks ago to the reviews team at Lifetime for that purpose and am hopeful to hear back. The platform looks fantastic and the price point is very attractive.
I'm gonna have to look that up, never heard of that model. A couple of guys in the club have Jackson. One has a Big Rig the other has a Kilroy. They love their yaks. Thank you for watching and commenting! Much appreciated 👍
Good morning great video I love these discussions cause it shows my mind to start wondering! You never want to rush into a final decision without looking at your options first! When I first looked into this whole kayak world I watched video after video writing down everything I could about getting started into kayak fishing! Besides if my height and weight I immediately looked at stability, comfort and weight capacity! God knows paddling and even peddling all day long was out the question. So I lined at max capacity cause I know I wasn’t the strongest motor long lasting battery to keep me on the lake for the longest time! In fact my first three kayaks I fell in love with was Nucanoe unlimited, old town auto pilot 136 and the native titan x 12.5. I looked at all the other kayaks you suggested and I’m still open to others. I just had surgery done on my left eye and July 23rd my right eye will be done for cataracts. I’m losing weight and going to the gym to help build my center of gravity better. It’s going really good to help me prepare for this journey I am taking swimming lessons just in case. I have a list of items I want to add to my kayak for those just in case scenarios out on the lake! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and information on this subject tight lines brother take care!
You're welcome J. Sounds like you're doing all the right things to prepare. Truth told, you won't really know what works best for you until you put yourself in a variety of conditions and find out. I will also say, that no matter which platform you pick, you'll make it work. My 106 has some shortcomings, but I make it work and will probably continue to do so for quite some time. I say I would swap for a Zulu, but I've never actually seen one in person so who really knows? Looking, talking and day dreaming is what we do when we aren't actually out there fishing 😂. Thank you for watching and commenting, you are awesome and I hope your vision situation gets better soon!!
Great video. I just found you yesterday so now I'm trying to binge watching your channel. I'm old but I want either a kayak or that pelican 10E. You have given me lots of info on both. I had a stroke so I'm mobility impaired so I'm thinking the pelican. I'm on fixed income so probably won't get either but you sure make my dreams seem closer. Thank you Kevin Yandell
Wow Kevin, your message was very touching. Thank you for that. My dad had a small stroke as well and has had some other health issues that have affected his mobility too. As much as I'd love to see him in a kayak, the Bass Raider is better suited for those who experience limited mobility. The higher seating position and the swivel seats make it easier to move around and sit/stand. I really hope you are able to find a way to get one. If you do, I hope you'll let me know! I really appreciate you!!!
@scotyhanaman7849 nice! I've never actually seen a Bonafide in person, but I did research them when I was starting out. Very nice ride!! I had to Google the Apex.... 😳 Now that is different and cool! Love the fact that you can get the custom wrap and it's handmade! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I wouldn't trade my PDL 106 for anything currently available right now. I'm waiting for the AUTOBOAT Smart Head to be released so I can have a rear wireless trolling motor with spot lock and still keep my pedals.
@@Bass_Fishin_Jake my ideal kayak would have a motor on the back and my PDL unit, but putting a motor on the back of the 106 seems challenging because of the rudder placement. So, I modified mine to take a motor or a PDL but not both at the same time. Do you have a motor mounted on the back?
@lpz6564 I have not struck anything with it yet, but I just made the modification a couple of months ago. I'm sure it's coming 😄 I really enjoy the motor but I don't take it every time. Like I fished a tournament a couple of weeks ago that was a swamp lake so I didn't even bother with a motor. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It means a lot!!
I was looking at getting a kayak and was talking to my neighbor who's family have several. They told me because of my back issues they wouldn't recommend one. The reason I got my Quest Angler 10. So I guess from the Genie I would have to have one that would handle a 350lb guy that would be motorized, super stable and non back breaking😂, alot to ask for!
Yeah, kayaks are probably not the best for back situations, not because of the seating, it would be getting in and out that would be problematic. Weight capacity wouldn't be an issue, motor wouldn't be an issue, it would be seating. If you got like a hybrid with a high seat you'll sacrifice some stability. You might have stumped the genie 😂
Check out the 2024 NUCANOE UNLIMITED - you can get their pivot drive for pedaling and you can alos get the XI3 trolling motor bow mounted. I currently have the Jackson Bite and love it but the NUCANOE UNLIMITED is the kayak I would swap in a minute.
That's awesome, you are only the 2nd person to say you would switch from what you currently have. A guy in my local club just got a nucanoe unlimited and I'll admit it looks sweet! He just added the peddle drive unit, he was running a motor. That's the only one I ever seen in person. Thank you for watching!!!
@jasonm1884 I wondered what your response was going to be. Now I know 😁 Is the 106 your first yak? I've got a wandering eye 👀 but reality is my 106 and I will be a team for some time to come. I've got high hopes that Old Town will introduce an EPDL version of the 106 & 120 and at that time, I might just have to trade up. Thanks for watching my friend!
@user-do9dp1mu1b interesting. I would say from those picks you are someone that prefers an open style platform. I think I am leaning in that direction too. Organization and efficiency are high on my list and while in hull storage is nice, it takes space away from the deck and clutters things a bit. Thank you for watching and commenting!!! Tight lines!
I have the pdl 106 and don't want any other. I love it.
@bradjones5876 the 106 is a great yak. How long have you had it and is it your first kayak? Thank you for watching! Much appreciated 👍

Kaku Zulu pedal ... love it. I've owned several others and this is the most stable of them all.

Thank you Bill!!!

A Blue Sky 360 Pro by Jackson, and I wouldn't give it up. It's miles ahead of all others.
