First off I want to say, this is some really impressive fishing, filming, and explanation of your tactics. It was a very cool video to watch. I am fairly new to fly fishing and hoping to target some carp soon! On another note, I also live in Utah and I am a passionate waterfowl hunter. I feel a little explanation of why those waters are closed should have been added. The areas I believe you’re referring to (correct me if I’m wrong) is to protect nesting waterfowl. Most trout anglers are totally fine staying off reds when fish are spawning and other common practices to protect and ensure future generations of our wildlife. Plenty of the same closures happen for native fish species, big game, etc. I find it a little off putting when someone doesn’t respect another species of wildlife just because it’s not the particular species they choose to chase. At the end of the day, we’re all sportsmen and should be able to respect all species of wildlife whether or not they’re our main addiction, even if it means sacrificing “the best spots” during critical periods for other animals. Just my two cents, keep up the great videos.
The nesting waterfowl is in the spring and early summer. I have no problem with not allowing fisherman or anyone access to those waters at that time. The fact that DNR is dictating activities in public water purely to benefit one type of sportsman is my problem. There is not other situation where all activities but hunting are aloud. In your examples you basically explained why this is so wrong. You, as a waterfowl hunter, can go hunt above bass nests, during waterfowl season, but me as an angler can’t do the same. Why can’t I fish when there is no nesting? If it was fair, waterfowl hunters could not access those rivers that fish spawn or bass spawn at all. That is what is happening in Utah right now with Waterfowl Management areas. And this is not an exaggeration. This is exactly what is happening, oh except, they make an exception for upland game. I have never been so disgusted with a public agency as I am with the DNR in Utah right now. It is a complete overreach of power. These are public lands, funded by all of us. In fact the smallest portion of funding actually comes from waterfowl hunting. So while you can pretend I did not explain this fully in the video, I will do it in my next video.

I understand your frustration and I can see where you’re coming from. I think most people I know around here and talk to are frustrated with the DWR. Access and regulations for every kind of hunting and fishing is outrageous and just getting worse all the time. Keep spreading the word and getting more people into the outdoors, again well done with the videos and keep it up
Pineview was drained completely not too long ago, so everything in it is fairly young. It takes a long time to grow them big. Willard has some giants, but the dikes around the entire lake makes it pretty tough to find them. Big fish up north in Utah are going to be mostly in the Bear River. The spur has some pigs too, but it gets hit hard by bow fisherman and sadly those are the easiest ones for them to hit.

The Missouri River in Montana is one of favorite carp areas. Awesome for trout too, but I love breaking the day with carp in the day and trout morning and night, sadly, we don’t have the type of combination here.
@@carponthefly8282 the pike are getting loaded up there I had an easy 25# northern at the same spot as the walleye 2 weeks before I got that in my photo That spot in town is insane I’ve landed numerous trophy fish of multiple species right there Definitely smaller water around here so I’ve been learning lakes a lot
What seasonal window(s) do you have where fishing from your sup is possible? I’ve tried in my Sup and so far have learned the sup is a good way to find the general area where pods are concentrated in. But much easier it is for me to spot the standing on my sup, they can also see me waaay easier and they spook well before I can even get into a casting motion (as stealthy as i can). Once I spot them on my sup, I have to step off and crouch low as I wade to get into position. Also, as sexy as the long casts are, I can often hook up 20 to 1 when ninja dapping. Again, fantastic footage and skills!
It really depends in the specific fishery. I can tell you there are a couple places that it is very hard to use my sup. I may try to do a video on one of those spots to show how I approach it in those situations, but as a hint, post up in likely ambush spots and wait for the carp to move through. There is a lot more to it than that, but I will try and make a video to go over this

I have figured that once I find the general area where carp are holding, it’s best to find a carp “game trail” and just patiently wait rather than pursue them- as stealthily as I may try. Pursing only seems to heighten their anxiousness. Looking forward to that video!
Got so many questions for ya. What kind of flyline do you use? Have you used an OPST Single Skagit flyline for carp like this? Wondering how you are able to cast 12ft leader + 4ft tippet setup without false casting! Amazing footages by the way! Always enjoy the closeups where we can see the fly moving in the water towards the carp!
So have used a floating shaft tips, I don’t love it. The big problem is that the sweet spot for most carp casts brings the loop to loop connection into play all the time. If you want to use a Spey rod or switch rod, I would just get a normal floating line 2 lines sizes over your rod weight. Just my recommendation.
This particular body of water has a lot of chyronomids, mayflies, damsels, and leaches. The leaches are really the killer forage source that they key in on.
Depending on how the properties were acquired (like with Pitman-Robertson or other earmarked funds) there may be restrictions on what the properties can be burdened with in the way of use restrictions. I'm in Colorado so don't know Utah, but served on this Wildlife Commission for 10 years and saw those kind of provisions.
These properties only restrictions are for the nesting periods. In fact they allow upland game hunting, which if anything violates their use, that would, it’s simply the Division overreaching. It actually violates our state constitution. Hopefully we get this resolved eventually.
It all starts at 4k, but when you zoom in you lose resolution. Unfortunately most drones are not built for this. Ideally hope that someday someone will come out with a 8k drone. There are some. But they are either crappy, or extraordinarily expensive. While I enjoy creating this content, there is very little money it. Not going to pay for a commercial drone anytime soon.

I moved here from Montana almost two years ago I’ve gotten carp at Pineview and Willard but not really too big ! Been learning a lot down here
