Tearing Down The S6 Timing System & Finding More Issues...
Hey everyone,
We are continuing our push to get the S6 running and jumping right in by tearing off all the old and crusty timing components. Shockingly, a lot of these parts are coming right off with no issue. Too bad some of them really shouldn't be put back on...and others just plain can't.

Hey Everyone, The time is finally here. I've been getting pretty tired of just looking at the S6 sit, so I think it's about time to take a look at it. Today I want to go from not knowing much about the car to both knowing more about it, and knowing what fixes it needs to get back on the road. The only issue is the video I received from when it was running sounds like a knock... Hopefully it is ...

I cant remember seeing anyone making car content the way you do, and its not just about cars... I love the constant flow of thoughts and philosophy combined with the soothing shots and excellent choice of music, your expressions are seriously great and adds so much to the whole picture. Cant wait for more videos and seeing your career progress, i really believe you are a hidden gem at this point. If bolt feels like it tightens like that. Screw it back in and out again. Back and forth, slowly, using some oil at the same time. Tear the front into "service position", (should have been done in the first place). Might take an hour or more first time. You dont need to disconnect the AC lines, just swing them out of the way. Well now you have to do it anyway to drill those screws out 😅

      Heat helps probably the most along with Seafoam deep creep followed with your method. Sometimes though no matter what you do it’ll break. Soaking for weeks helps but not everyone has time for that. Deep creep doesn’t dry though and actually penetrates and lubes.

    • @Juntasification
      @Juntasification 4 години тому

      @@dustysteele5408 Heat is king, but sometimes not an option if you dont have induction tools. I use penetrating fluids, but have no illusions of them actually helping much until the bolt/nut is actually cracked loose. Then it helps to screw them off complety. Yes if had hours/days to soak them. All those bolts cracked loose, I would say he had 90% change to take them off without breaking them if done with care.

    • @dustysteele5408
      @dustysteele5408 3 години тому

      @@Juntasification I just use a propane bottle torch. When using PBBlaster I would agree that it doesn’t actually penetrate. But it’s been proven that Deep Creep works. I also normally tap the bolt a few times and then try tightening a little before loosening a little and spraying it more. Then going back and forth while slowly making your way out with it. I replaced the suspension on my XJ that came from PA. Had a 99% chance of breaking the bolts with what all forums were saying and I didn’t break a single one. I had a lot of time to presoak them though because I didn’t want to have to drill holes in my floor to fix a potentially broken weld nut.

    I love how these engine conditions are the reason why Audis have a bad reputation in the US. All because the owners neglected the very basic maintenance like brushing your teeth. It's ridiculous to see, because here they run 400-500k before they go to Russia and Latvia but in the US they magically are all totaled by 200k

    • @dustysteele5408

    I’m in the same boat kinda with 06 mini cooper s valve cover bolts. The salt/rain outdoor elements come through the hood scoops and rust the bolts basically into dust so I’m having a hard time removing them all. Definitely takes patience between ordering correct tools and replacement bolts for this process.

    • @dustysteele5408
      @dustysteele5408 8 годин тому

      Whenever parts are rusty I recommend to use Seafoam Deep Creep because it’s a penetrant and lube so it doesn’t dry out. Then use heat to help expand.

    popping those timing belt Sprockets loose with the right tool is super satisfying. also while the standard is "service mode", with that car that far apart already all your saving is some trans fluid. pull the entire core support off!, way easier to work on. on my manual S4s it always comes all the way off when i do it.

      Came here to say the same thing - service mode service mode service mode - no fluid savings is worth making a timing belt job harder … plus you’ll be in a much better position to clean up all the grime with a pressure washer / by hand.
