  • Hey Everyone,
Today we are back working on the e30 and continuing our long list of to-dos. The E-brake has been giving me a ton of anxiety the last couple weeks after it got stuck, so I figure it's about time we rebuild the system. The parts were delayed last week but they are finally here. While we are in there we might as well touch up some other brake parts as well.
Thank you for watching, Consider liking and subscribing for more.

This channel is way too underrated. I enjoyed your project 30 series and can relate to it with my own E30. Keep it up man

Just a tip from a german guy owning a couple german cars.
At 10:00 you normally do the adjusting through a wheelnut hole in die wheelcarrier/breakdisc. This can even be done with the wheel on and just one wheelnut removed.

That's awesome! When I have to adjust it next that's how I will do it! Thank you for the support!

12:17 Complacency is not an issue I can see. You've done more to your E30 in the last 2 months than I have to mine in 4 years.
    Keep it up man.

The satisfaction of keeping something older going is so cool. The only issue as time is going by is that the cars that are becoming classic are progressively more and more computerised. I can't imagine what it's going to be like in another 20 years now that cars even have their headlights coded to the car. It's crazy how over complicated cars are getting.... The days of home mechanics being common place are numbered.... I rebuilt a car back in 1987 when I was only 17 right down to putting new rings and bottom end bearings into the car. Back then there was no such thing as an ECU and nobody I knew had a computer. Everything just came apart with a basic tool kit. You even put in the windshield with a piece of string and some washing up liquid as it was only held in with a rubber surround.... I like how you will try anything and you don't seem to be daunted regardless of the task. Thanks for all the entertainment.

You are so correct. I had to pay more to replace my F32 headlights (LED version) than I paid for all my B5S4 upgrades combined (over 7 years)...

Fun Fact- I have a 1967 Porsche 912 and that emergency brake system is the same as the e30. Not sure who designed that style of drum/rotor system- but it’s been around for a while. Thanks for the great content- FYI- there’s a little hole in the rotor so you can adjust the drum brake adjuster without having to remove the rotor over and over again. N

honestly, loving the videos about the e30. i cant wait for it to be in better cosmetic shape. i picked up one of my own in late july of last year as a project, which almost immediately became my daily the second i drove it lol. its been such a pita, especially with having an eta and needing specific / very hard to find parts. everything youve done, ie the steering rack and the like has def put me on track for wanting to do the same.

Although it is somewhat weird to think that a car would have a drum brake inside of a disk brake, this is how a vast majority of vehicles have their parking brakes set up. A notable exception is my 1980 Saab 900, which uses a fancy lever system on the front calipers to cable actuate the main front caliper pistons from the e-bake lever. I guess Saab though it would make it a more effective actual "emergency brake", rather than just more of a parking brake like most cars. However, for whatever reason, Saab decided to ditch this system on later 900s from like 87 or 88 and newer. 😆

I think BMW recommends doing rotors with pads.

As alway a great video. Fun fact: You can adjust the screw shown at 09:30 through the hole of the wheel bolt. So you dont even have to take off the wheel to fine adjust the E-Branke. Just one bolt. When i first found this out, i was again very amazed how nice to work on these E30's are.
    Thx for the video

Just discovered that even new cars like gr86’s have the same weird drum/disk rear brakes and it seems like the stupidest idea ever. Why do they still do that?
