This episode is intended to be a sister episode to the S6 episode. They are meant to be watched together and show two sides of the same period of time...
This side of the story is centered around the purchase of my 1984 GTI and most of the parts I will need to vr6 swap it... This has been a bucket list build of mine for a while and I am so excited to finally get started.

Nice opportunity, MK1 VR6 are even in Germany rare👍 the 12V fit, only near the belt pulley is hardly any space.

Ahhh this is so sick and relatable. Bought an 86 Toyota Pickup off Craigslist in December. Fast forward 5 months, I buy an m50 w/s52 block swapped e30 and every time I go on Craigslist or marketplace to buy something normal for the house I end up browsing…. Dreaming… love those old gtis. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Grade A production, really really nice. The only thing stopping me from having more project cars is, yearly insurance and tax. On average, it's 1500€ per year per car. So having 5 registered cars is already a pricey undergoing.
Yeah I totally get the insurance aspect! That's going to be a pretty big expense that can't be avoided sadly.
another great vid, good font.. ps - if you need any spares for the mk1 - hmu, as you probably know - they were produced and sold in South Africa up till recently, and there are plenty of upgrade / aftermarket spares available here

I have the same Facebook marketplace addiction😂. I bought a b5 s4 sight unseen while deployed. It was one of deals I couldn’t pass up.

No deja vu haha. This video was a sister episode to the S6 one! The timeline for both cars happens at the same time, so I split the videos so they tell two sides of the same story. This one has more gti details than S6. Both together have the complete story haha.

Man I really want to. Figuring out how to open them up is going to be the hard part though. Since we will probably paint the whole thing should be doable though!

Some mk1 trivia:vw South Africa did make a mk1 R line. It was a face-lifted mk1 golf. They make the citi golf till 2009. Jamie Orr imported one to the U.S with a 3.6 swap.

Nice mk1 ❤ Here in south Africa 🇿🇦. U never trust an mk1 😂 some off them sleepers then they push like 400kw 😂 (think in horse power its like 700hp)

@HunterDirection see now u guys, have the Jetta 1 front end on the golf. Our golf's have different front end. Due to production cost, to keep them down.

Have you ever thrown a hammer? Go outside and try it. When you do, that will give an idea of the handling of a VR6 MK1.🤔
Step 1, sell all the VR6 stuff. Step 2, Go buy a running MK3 2.0L (if you can find one, lol) Step 3 , Swap in the 2.0L 😁 Take it from someone who's first MK1 was a '78 (only slightly used at the time)

I'm stoked for the S6 too! I think it makes sense to try and get that running as soon as possible since the gti is a much larger project! And yeah the old front end is iconic!

Love it! Just got a 91 GTI on the road that I purchased last year. Blew the trans on the way back from NJ to Paducah KY, the last 700 miles was in 4th gear at redline. I get back and start sourcing parts for the 02J 1.8T conversion, and bought another 91 😂
Waiting on the 02J and cable shift to arrive while the parts pile up, now I’m doing 2 of these cars this year haaha
